Absolutely no doubt that it is beneficial. I began to read at an early age. At one time span in my life I read a book a day.

I remember some amazing things from my reading of the almanacs back in the early forty's. Facts that today are no longer facts. History has undergone a revision. But that shouldn't be surprising. -

yeah its beneficial to read, in hopes you are going to learn someting from it, or it can stimulate your mind in some way to help you develop intelligently. it also depends what your reading too, many magazines and books dealing with superficiality or typical social stupidity wont get you anywhere, but books that deal with real issues where you can learn something from is ofcourse great for the mind.

The lack of literacy has always been a tool in the past to oppress the masses. The ability to read was exclusively the property of the rich and powerful and denied to the vast majority in order to stay rich and powerful. When you have the ability to read and write, you'll be able to tap into the knowledge that will enable a determined individual to rise above his or her station in life.

learn about anything in the world. I am still a "bookaholic"
but the youngsters today use the computer so much and so well
they would rather play on it than read a book. I find that
very. very sad. If I could come back in 100 years I wonder what humans will be reading, if they read at all.
I also find it extremely disturbing that kids sit in front of
the TV so much and look at the junk that's broadcast. There are
several programs that I find excellent, but most people probably do not watch them. The kids should get outside and play some, too. No wonder so many are fat now. YUCK -

As a child I read to get away from the realities of my life, without this advantage I doubt that I would have become a published author of many articles, and a book on a man who was 92 and still practicing medicine. Reading has many advantages,it will enrich your life.

Nothing beats curling up with a good book in front of the fireplace on a cold blustery winter night in my plush recliner, cat on the lap, dog peacfully asleep on the rug. And all of a sudden I wake from that dream and realize we don't have winters in New Orleans, I don't have a fireplace or a cat ... but I still have that book. :-)

I am a compulsive reader. If you lock me in a room with a book I will soon be reading it no matter what the subject. My school and my mom could not understand why I never responded to punishment. In elementary school whenever I got tired of putting up with the teacher I would refuse to do my school work. Their response was to make me sit in a small hallway in the office until I did my work. This hallway was also where they kept all the extra reading books. I learned the opposite of what they were trying to teach me. Cause trouble and they reward me by leaving me alone and giving me books to read.

I love reading. I leave books, magazines 'n newspapers layin' all over the house, 'n my kids pick them up 'n read. I don't understand why some folks don't have reading materials in the bathroom, ya tell me ya just gotta sit there 'n crap ? I'd rather go to a library than a *****house (even w/ a 50% off coupon) Shalom.

I'm pretty sure that these kids watching TV and videos are missing the development of that inside "video card" of the brain - imagination. Engineers and many other designers have to have this to envision what they want to build or design.

Another thing they are missing is the personal feeling of reading and putting themselves in the protagonists' role. I enjoy watching some movies for the action, but I have a harder time imagining myself in the actor's place, seeing that he (or she) is in reality a very well to do actor making so much more money than I am. I much prefer the personal feel of what reading does for me. -
