here we go, after Obama becomes president, no matter what when or where anything goes wrong, the dems will be blaming Bush for the next 300 years. This is how they plan to let Obama off the hook for anything that goes wrong during Obama's watch. That's pure BS. The SITTING president takes responsibility for all that goes wrong. Democrats 2000-2008 famous words. "It happened under Bush's watch!"

So now those words we become
"It happened under Obama's watch!" It's Obama's turn!-

See that's funny. Republicans have spent the last eight years blaming everything on Clinton. Bush inherited the recession, Clinton didn't go after Bin Laden. Etc. Etc. And now, everything will be Obama's fault.

What a bunch of looney tunes. Obama is promising $1 trillion deficits as far as the eye can see and you foolish people have the nerve to rant about the $400 billion deficits of Bush. Obama himself said deficits don't matter. Keep up with the times and what your fearless leader is saying. You people are silly.-

The bailout was requested by the present admin. I voted for Ron Paul. How about you? Did you vote for the present admin? Did you vote for a candidate that voted yes for the bailout? If so, you are keeping company with those you are complaining about. You would then have to be considered part of the problem.

"Obama himself said deficits don't matter. Keep up with the times and what your fearless leader is saying. You people are silly."
No, that's NOT what Obama said.
Obama said that he expects a huge deficit this year due to declining revenue during the recession and the large amount of money spent on the bailouts.
Obama said that while his economic recovery package may contribute to the deficit in the short-term, it is a necessary investment to create the jobs that will stimulate the economy and generate taxable revenue.
However, unless the U.S. wants to see "trillion-dollar deficits for years to come," decisive, mandatory cuts to Congressional discretionary spending should accompany his economic stimulus package, which in turn should be carefully arranged to stimulate the economy with the least possible amount of risk/expenditure.
Read it again.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/08/business/economy...
"We know that our recovery and reinvestment plan will necessarily add more [to the deficit]. My own economic and budget team projects that, UNLESS WE TAKE DECISIVE ACTION, even after our economy pulls out of its slide, trillion-dollar deficits will be a reality for years to come.
We must act quickly to pass an economic recovery package that will create jobs and jump-start economic growth. While it is understandable that this package will worsen our near-term budget picture, we should not enact provisions that will exacerbate our long-term deficits and debt.
A stark assessment of the budgetary outlook would force Obama's administration to impose tighter fiscal discipline on the government. Even as he prepares a stimulus plan that is expected to total nearly $800 billion in new spending and tax cuts over the next two years, he said he would make sure the money was wisely spent, and he pledged to work with Congress to enact spending controls and efficiency measures throughout the federal budget.
In his most explicit language on the subject since winning the election, Mr. Obama sought to reassure lawmakers and the financial markets that he was aware of the long-term dangers of running huge deficits and would take steps to limit and eventually reduce them.”
Obama is warning Congress that unless they adopt his new, stricter spending rules, the country will see trillion-dollar deficits for years to come. Obama is NOT promising to deliver trillion-dollar deficits, and Obama certain did NOT say that "deficits don't matter" either, as you so oversimplistically put it.
Furthermore, you act as if the short-term budget deficits in 2009 are Obama's fault, when in fact it is the recession that is forcing his hand. The scenario for Bush was different; Bush assumed office with surpluses from the Clinton administration, which he wasted on tax cuts and wasteful spending.
But Bush's poor economic record has forced Obama into a tough position of choosing the lesser of two evils:
1) a prolonged recession with high home foreclosures and high unemployment
2) high short-term deficits caused by a sweeping economic stimulus package
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/07/us/politics/07ob...
"Economists almost universally support running large deficits to combat the kind of steep recession the country is grappling with now."

It did happen under bushboys watch...NOT Obamas,in case you haven't noticed Obama hasn't taken over yet and the right is chomping at the bit to start blaming him,in some cases they already have.
No one with half a brain can deny the damage that bush and his buddys have done to this country.Damage that will long outlast Obama and his administration.
I don't believe the right understands,or cares, where this moron has put our country. If you on the right,or the left for that matter, expect Obama to walk into office and magically fix everything that bushboy has destroyed or broken in four years then you will be sadly disappointed. My wish is that at best we can turn around the failed policys that have got uds to this point and start making progress in the right direction.
God i can't wait to see that miserable sob and his gang leave Washington.-

Millions of us beleive that some of the blame for the 9/11 attacks rested on the shoulders of Bill Clinton. But you lefties said NO WAY, it happened on Bush's watch. So I say, what goes around is coming around. Just to remind you, Clinton was offered OBL by Syria, Clinton said he didn't want OBL. Clinton also made big cutbacks on our Intelligent agencies, and massive cut backs in our military. Perhaps If Clinton would have been more on the ball, 9/11 would not have happened. Plus, keep in mind, the terrorists made all their plans and took flight school all UNDER CLINTONS WATCH. But yet, you Democrats place 100% of the 9/11 blame on Bush. So, we will do the same for Obama. I don't expect you to beleive or admit to any of this, so no need to reply.

How come the 9/11 commission didn't feel the same ? If bushboy would have been more concerned about national security ( remember he was thoroughly briefed by Clinton and his staff about the threat of OBL and did NOTHING) instead of vacations and hand holding with his Saudi buds 9/11 might not have happened....And Syria was going to hand over OBL..more right wing propaganda..lol.

If BUSH would have listened to Clinton and Clarke, 9/11 would not have happened! When, during the transition in 2000, Clinton's people tried to tell Condi Rice that OBL would be their biggest concern, she said WHO? Richard Clarke, terrorism expert for Reagan, Bush 1, and Clinton, was shoved down the hall under several layers of bureacracy when previously he had direct access to the president. Clarke begged for an audience with Bush for 9 months to IMPLORE him to pay attention to Al Qaeda and OBL. He finally fot his audience on Sept 9 or 10, 2001. DOH!

The FBI kept sending up warnings to that something was going on with pilot training by middle eastern men. The white house ignored them! Cheney as much as told them to shut up and sit down. This is all well documented. Here's a link you can surely trust...it's a FOX NEWS release from 2002!

So if it makes you feel really good to blame Clinton, go ahead but you are dead wrong! At least clinton sent in cruise missiles to try to get Bin Laden but missed him. Your idiot boy was completely asleep at the switch. He ignored warnings from the FBI. He ignored advice from Clinton. He ignored National Intelligence Estimates that said Bin Ladin was planning to attack the US, possibly with airplanes.

Obama will start a new program for all the Bush haters and people who have the Bush Derangement Syndrome, who will soon all be out of work. Obama's plan is to give unemployment benefits to the Bush haters, then disability benefits to those who have the worst cases (Bush Derangement Syndrome) until another Republican becomes president!
Reply
Obama will never be blamed for anything. All blame for anything and everything that goes wrong will still be the fault of Bush. I figure in about 300 years or so, Bush will be forgotten, by then their should be another Republican president that will be blamed for anything and everything that goes wrong! Democrats can do no wrong and should never be blamed or take blame for anything, NOT EVER!-

Typical republican, always wrong about every issue every time. While wall street is to be blame for a lot of the mess we are in. It was Bush who caused the higher deficits that led to higher interest rates. It was Bush who printed money and led America''s standing in the world deteriorate causing the dollar to spiral downward. It was Bush who led for more deregulation which let wall street be a part of this mess. There is endless more information-I.e. the wars, no energy policy, no infrastructure rebuilding etc., etc. etc. P.S. stop with that nazi stuff only nazi's are republicans. The republican=brainwashed and stupid ;100% of the time. Intelligent=zero all republicans.

Unbelievable. It was Reagan and Bush who by increasing the deficit caused interest rates to go up. There is a relationship between interest rates and deficit spending. Of course being a republican it is impossible for you to know this(after all this is common sense ). When Clinton started to balance the budget interest rates went down. The thing is it takes years for the rates to take effect either way up or down to go thru the country's economy. Because of this interest rates were higher under Clinton than Bush. These are facts, but to republicans it is propaganda.Try again but try using facts if you can(being a republican that is all but impossible), and you are correct it is funny reading moronic republican posts.

That made Carter the king. Under him we had stagflation. I got some really good raises back then but my pay bought less. Lets keep the record straight. It went down a whole lot under Reagan and he created an economy that lasted till now. Until the Democrat feel good compassionate rules for buying houses. Up went the housing bubble ans then down it crashed taking the economy with it.

Ybdogsct made an impressive list here of Clinton v. Bush's responsibility for 9/11:

I was actually looking forward to seeing one of you Bush supporters refute his list, one by one, but strangely, not a -single- one of the conservatives on this site responded to his post.

After an inflammatory headline like "Bush's deficit could doom America" I felt compelled to come in here and argue that the deficit is no more Bush's than it is Clinton's than it is Bush I's than it is Reagan's.
Reply
The US has been deficit spending for decades. There has been very little let up, and it Congress and the Senate are complicit in this overspending. Not to mention the fact that every new government has to include in its budget payment for the excess of previous governments.
Obama's deficit could doom America! Is it his fault? Nope. Could he make the deficit smaller? Probably. Would it be the right thing to do? Who knows?
The same can be said of Bush. All we can say about these deficits is based on the wiseness of particular aspects of spending. Losing billions of dollars in Iraq (I don't mean spending it, I mean the PALLETS of COLD HARD CASH that went MISSING) was clearly not a good use for American Dollars (even if they claim it was Iraqi money). Billions have been wasted in the War on Drugs, but that's not Bush's brainchild.
At most, Bush's deficits could be the straw that broke the camel's back. But America's debt load was larger than it should have been long before Bush came into office.-

Arguably, the Clinton surplus was just on paper and was really also a deficit (because of the Social Security thing).
Reply
I'm not going to bother arguing that, but an argument could be made that the Free Trade Agreements signed by Clinton have made American manufacturing unprofitable, thus so destabilizing the economic foundation of the country, that it's been in trouble ever since.

The national debt peaked during WWII and had been declining from about 100 per of GDP to about 25 percent of GDP. Reagan reversed the trend.
Reply
The national debt was under 2 trillion. Reagan added 2 trillion
while he was in office. Bush1 and Clinton added another 2 trillion.
Bush2 added 3 trillion to the national debt in his first 6 years
in office. He added a trillion dollars to the national debt faster
than any other president. The countries debt will now end up being
just about where it was after WWII. Most of this Debt was added
during Reagan and Bush2. The country will have probably another
6 trillion dollars of debt thanks to Bush plus major economic problems.
It took 50 years to reduce the debt before.
