I am not sure I understand your point dear codger. Was it better to have people to help you destroy yourself, or did their refusal propel you up or down the spiral? What happened to speed you on your reclamation of yourself? Obviously you are not there now, what was the pivot point?

Warmest regards to you, sir. Your story and experience can help not only others in your former situation, but, maybe, the rest of us to understand how to react to the ones who are just trying to scam us and the difference between those who really need some sort of a hand up....

    Thank you for the honesty in your story. Many won't admit what they've had to do to survive.
    
    I've been clean for nearly 20 years now, but alcohol wasn't my demon. I am not ashamed to discuss my past because it has helped in shaping my present and future. I learned a lot about people, family, friends, and myself because of what I've gone through.
    
    "some refused handouts, it wasnt their refusal that kept me going down, it was my refusal to deal with life as i perceived it. "
    
    I think that that is a very powerful statement. Many will not understand it that haven't gone through it themselves.

    Hi again Codger, my hat is off to you! That is a very compelling story!
    
    It sounds like both you and Wizard have been to hell, and had the courage and strength to fight your way back from the bottomless pit that swallows so many. I am glad you made it back. I am very glad you are here and willing to tell about it!
    
    The pendulum swings both ways. You both have endured and survived extreme badness, I hope you both experience extreme goodness now, and for the rest of your lives! So be it!
