Now wait a minute. In an ideal world, yes, Obama (or more accurately, the Democratic-controlled Congress) would hold Bush, Cheney, Addington, Yoo, Feith, Gonzales and many others accountable. And I find it hard to argue with the moral rectitude of Krugman's column.

Unfortunately, this is not an ideal world. You all know what the Republican response would be no matter how much evidence of malfeasance was brought to light--and you all know how well the Republican propaganda machine works, and how public opinion can turn on a dime if investigations of the Bush adminstration appeared to be political in nature.
I'm not certain Obama and the Democrats should just "move on." But though the consequences of allowing these criminals to get away with what they have are dire, I also believe the consequences of extreme partisans like Gingrich or Palin gaining power in 2012 could be worse. I'm just not certain, and I'm looking at the best interests of the country for the long term.
The question in my mind, is: Which is worse?-

Personally, I'd like to see the international community do something. I know that's punting, but it'd be good to see the criminals condemned, whether they wind up behind bars or not...and I'm afraid of political recriminations if it's done internally.
