"having sex and then offering forgiveness for it" So, first you complain that Catholics can "just do anything then say they're sorry.". Then it turns out the Church doesn't agree and those who dispense abo****ion can not absolve themselves and you complain? The problem is allowing the judge to exonerate himself brings down the entire fabric of justice making it worse than anything that is done and then is brought to the bar of justice. Or that would be my guess never having heard of this idea or these folks before. I wonder, though, if a priest forgiving himself for other crimes is considered the same... If not, I have to wonder why this exact sin is chosen...

If you assume the wafer if the body of christ then people defiling it are directly defiling God. If you think it is just a piece of bread, as you folks do, then it makes no sense.
Also, consider that the Church considers life and body on earth as less important than the eternal soul. -

It is a matter of quality;

blashphemy, in christian ethics, is worse than violence; since violence is sin against
other men, and blasphemy is a sin against God.
It doesn't mean they were in favor of genocide;
just that they had a hierarchy of sins,
with a special court for the really high ones.
Cut the 12th century some slack, Natureboy.
The 21st isn't in favor of genocide; but we don't do much to stop it either.

How did they elect Pope John Paul? Took a pole.
Horse walks into a bar, bartender: why the long face.
Priest, rabbi, Cleric walk into a bar, bartender: Is this a joke?
Pedophilia: god created man in his own image, ergo ipso facto karma dilldo, god is gay. -

"While priests and bishops can deal with confessions of sins as grave as murder or even genocide, the tribunal is reserved for crimes which are viewed by the Church as even more serious."

That is simply because the Vatican does not value human life as much as their need to preserve their dogmatic ideology. The teachings of Jesus are fine; just so long as they do not obstruct the business of the church.-

That is some thing I have all ways had a problem with regarding any organized Christian Church. All Christian Church's are spin offs of the Roman Catholic Church started after humans disagreed how to "run" the faith. Pretty sad

Worldly--very worldly--bull excrement.

When is a sin not a sin? When you've confessed to it. But only under certain circumstances.
Which is the worst sin? The one that puts the leader of the pack--the pope--in jeopardy.
'Tis all about self-perpetuation, which is to say, the perpetuation of worldly power.
It's all just so...twelfth century. The world has moved on, but Roman Catholic orthodoxy just pulls up the drawbridge and hunkers down.-

Wow, so if the pope commits a heinous sin, who absolves him? He cannot absolve himself, and he must receive absolution from the Pope, so who is left to offer him forgiveness?
Reply
Here is a better thought...rather than getting bogged down in the heirarchy of an old church, consider that people make their lives miserable by getting worried over such garbage?

I tried to write a post in another area and this is an answer To Einpet. Einpet, and all other catholics who don't use the sacrament of confession for commiting mortal sin and having sorrow in your heart for commiting mortal sin by offending God. I am sorry you feel I am judging you or anyone, that wasn't my ideal. Confession is a sacrament Catholics recive to pepare us to receive the Holy Communion so that our souls can be in a state of grace so that the gift of the communion host or the body of christ can be recived in a matter that is fitting for his body to be recived in * our body" so that the gifts of the Holy Sprit can work through us by our prayers, offerings to God, our familys, other church members like yourself and our community. The sacrament is a way to become closer to God by admitting your Mortal sins (the breaking of any of the ten commandments). If you are a newly joined catholic, or just decided to change churches then maybe you didn't go to R.I.C.A. classes, if not you should tell your priset so that you can learn what your faith has to offer. I have just been confirmed last year and my job as a newly confirmed is to teach those who don't understand their faith and to defend the church. Any catholic who is confirmed has a duty to do so. So it is not judgement but enlightenment to a beautilful sacrament that is open to any catholic. Have you broken any of the ten commandments? Only you can answer that. Some of them are using Gods name in vain, commiting adultry, stealing ect. If you don't know what the ten commandments are than look it up. I will be praying for you for enlightenment and a more open mind to your faith. God Bless you on your journey with God and the Church.

THE CONCEPT OF SIN , GUILT, BLAME AND REVENGE ARE HUMAN CONCEPTS OF WAYS ANIMALS REACT NATURALLY. HUMANIZING THOSE ANIMAL BEHAVIORS EMPOWERED THE INSTITUTION OR GROUP WHO WAS IN CONTROL.IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT GUILT :) AND THE OTHER NEGATIVE, SELF DEFEATIST 'DIVINE RULES'OF HUMAN LIKE GODS WHO GOT MAD, AVENGED THEMSELVES AND KILLED MILLIONS OF HUMANS WHO HAPPENED NOT TO BE THE PRIVILEGED CHOSEN ONES?
Reply
THE BIBLE SAYS GOD CREATED ADAM AND EVE AS MAN AND WOMAN, IF SO WHY DID THAT DIVINITY GOT SO MAD WHEN THEY HAD SEX? THE APPLE TREE THING IS JUST FIGURATIVE. NICE AND CLEANSED FOR LITTLE KIDS, BUT QUITE INCREDIBLE FOR RATIONAL ADULTS. THEN GOD EXPULSES ADAM AND EVE FROM PARADISE, THEN CONDEMNS THEM TO WORK HARD TO RAISE FOOD. IT SOUNDS LIKE SLAVERY TO ME. ALTHOUGH THE KKK'ers ARE STUCK TO PIGMENTS OF DIFFERENCE, ACTUALLY, THE kkk'ERS ALSO DESCSEND FROM ENSLAVED PEOPLE :)-

While I think some of what you said is profoundly intelligent (especially the Adam and Eve being a metaphor for coming-of-age, although I could be reading my own interpretation into that) but there are parts I don't, and even though I partially agree with what you said I'm negging you for typing it in all caps like a bombastic moron

I remember reading a book on Muslim. The book is in english so I do not know how accurate the translations are.
Reply
It mentioned that Muslim have a similar concept that your sins are forgiven if you shout loudly 3 times to Allah that you have sin and asked for forgiveness.
