Atheist bus adverts: Christian refuses to drive bus declaring 'there's probably no God' »
Posted By ekklesiawarrior 9 months, 3 weeks ago in ReligionA devout Christian has become the first driver to refuse to get behind the wheel of a bus bearing an atheist poster declaring God probably does not exist.
Ron Heather, 62, walked out in protest after seeing the advert declaring: "There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life."
He told his managers he could not drive the bus because the slogan, placed on the side of 800 buses across the country last week after a fundraising campaign raised £140,000, went against his faith.
They have now agreed to accommodate his religious beliefs by letting him drive buses in Southampton that do not bear the controversial message, which has been supported by atheists including Professor Richard Dawkins, the evolutionary biologist.

Mr Heather, who served in the Royal Navy for 25 years before becoming a bus driver four years ago, said: "When I first saw the bus last Saturday I was shocked.
"I was just about to board and there it was staring me in the face. My first reaction was horror. I'd heard about this silly campaign in London but I had no idea it was coming to Southampton.
"I had certainly hoped they were not coming here because I didn't want to make a stand. I was in a dilemma but I felt strongly I couldn't drive that bus and so I went up to my inspectors and told them there was no way I could drive it. They said they didn't have another one, so I thought I'd better go home.
"To be fair the company have been very good and have agreed to do everything they can to keep me off those buses.
He added: "There would be no way buses would be able to drive around with an anti-Muslim message like that on the side mentioning Allah. There would be uproar.
"I'm not the only one who has mentioned it – some of the passengers don't like the adverts at all."-

I guess the driver doesn't get that Allah is Arabic for god... It seems he also didnt get what the intention of the sign was... It was not targeting Christians, it was targeting the belief in and and all gods.. It was just as "Anti Muslim" as it was "Anti-Christian"...

Only thing i can see wrong with this situation is the driver, and his lack of respect for other peoples views. I mean heck, you don't see me going around refusing to use money because it says "In God We Trust" do ya?
Basically, it swings both ways, and this guy just can't stand the fact that atheists are finally getting their voices heard...

I wonder what would happen to an atheist if he walked around town with a sign saying "There is no God"? And in that same vein, what would happen to a Christian walking around town carrying a sign that says "Atheists are Godless Commie F*gs"?

If an atheist walked around town with a sign saying "Believers in God are Commie F*gs," they'd probably be charged with a hate crime.
If a Christian walked around town with a sign saying "Jesus Is My Savior"...well, there are many who already do that, and it's no problem.
It's all in how you say it.

If you look at the way atheists run their Non-religion down peoples throat by fighting anything displaying god or any thing that states god on it then you would have to say that atheisism is a religion because they get together discuss their beliefs and they go out and try to spread their "word" to others sounds like a religon to me, so arent they fighting against what they are ????

Hmmm...I don't know any atheists who run their non-religion down people's throats for the simple fact that they would be immediately ostracized from family, friends, and co-workers. And if they don't get ostracized, they certainly would face a fair amount of preaching, and not all of it in a kind manner.

Furthermore, the ones I know don't generally fight -anything- displaying god, etc...they fight displays that are on taxpayer-funded property and/or were constructed with taxpayer money. They want to keep religion and government separate because they have learned from human history that theocracies don't usually favor civil rights for unbelievers.
And remember, if you're going to classify atheism as a religion, you have to accept that tax exempt status would then be granted to atheist organizations, allowing them to use that money to put up more signs. Is that -really- what you want? 8P

Maybe they could put '"There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life." on one side,

and on the other side,
"There's probably a God. Now start worrying and don't enjoy your life."
I guess I can see the guys point, if I were a devout Christian I might feel the same, it's nice the company could accommodate him, but I certainly see no problem if they fired him because he refused to full fill his job duties. I mean what if he's scheduled to work Sunday mornings? will he refuse that as well? -

If the bus driver is so devout then the advert shouldn't bother him since he's "safe" in the eyes of god.

and...if the driver's boss were an atheist or a buddhist or a mormon, would he have refused to work for the company in the first place?
does he refuse dinners at restaurants that were cooked by "non-believers?"
this guy is a hypocrite. no two ways about it. or he's just looking to get famous for five minutes.
and god takes care of hypocrites and those that are overly prideful.
and but good. -
