Bush's Depressing Goodbye Party: One Staffer Gets Job At Abercrombie »
Posted By david_nwpa 9 months, 3 weeks ago in StyleWashington DC's social scene is in full swing this weekend, with events and galas and fetes and soirees and makeout sessions between Christopher Hitchens and Andrew Sullivan. It's a level of excitement that Washington only occasionally sees. But it's not just the inauguration of Barack Obama that people are celebrating -- it's also the end of the Bush administration, and Sunday night, President Bush and his friends celebrated the end of his term with a party of their own at Glen Echo Park. Slate went, for some reason, and their account makes the whole thing sound like the most depressing event in the world.

The Bush administration is all packed up and moved out. Tomorrow morning, the Obama team will switch from the transition team to the Presidential staff. I can understand why the Bushes are nostalgic, but like an uninvited guest, why can't they just leave quietly without making a scene?

You sort of have to wonder what may have happened had Repubs chosen a more capable flag-bearer. I think that there are many more "conservative" (small C) people out there than the Dems like to think. The problem was that GWB and his crew tried to hitch this to a specific "Conservative" political agenda (capital C), which even many innately conservative voters couldn't buy into. Maybe someone could have pulled this off, but it wasn't GWB.

I guess a paraphrase of Barry Goldwater is good advice for Obama-- "Extremism in pursuit of pretty much anything is a vice." -

What other stupidity can be expected from a totally biased group like huffingtonpost. All of the negativity put into that story is stupid. Of course liberals look at things like that as just simple truth. A lie about how bad a conservative is should be believed.

Well libs think about something. When Bush was inaugurated there were all kinds of left wing hate groups out there protesting. This time there are none. What does that say about the left wing of this country. Which side gives the other side some respect? Surely not the left. -

If you think I feel sorry for those people, well, I don't. They followed their leader like children dancing to the tune of the piper and not once did they have public doubts about his policies and question his motives. They road the gravey train until it wrecked all the while with no sensitivity to the harm they and their piper caused.

Besides there are plenty of service oriented jobs and McDs is still hiring but I don't know whether they are qualified or not.-

Don't know that anyone is looking for someone to feel sorry for them. If so, they're in the wrong profession. But what would you normally expect out of someone working in an organization? I was paid (pretty well, thank you) to give advice to a series of bosses. Sometimes it wasn't what they wanted to hear--their throwing creme-filled donuts was a clue. But once a decision is made, one shuts up. You just march along quietly--maybe with misgivings, but you keep them to yourself and do your job. Political parties are no different. I realize that's not the portrait of the heroic whistle-blower. But most of us are not really that kind of person, and fortunately most of us never get put in situations where that's an option.

What angers me is that they don't have the decency to be contrite (or at least keep their bitterness to themselves) until the 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama, gets into office and actually begins running our country and repairing the horrific damage that has been done to us economically, spiritually and in so many, many, other ways.
Reply
Cons seem to have no recollection of the circumstances under which Bush got into office. The country was virtually split down the middle and Bush and his con criminal cluster ignored that reality and governed for the few, the rich and those proud to send other people into battle while they waved flags and waited for tax cuts.
Today they are as much bitter and dejected for having lost in November as they are for having trusted the GOP and gotten precious little in return. Like sad, skanky, drunken sorority chicks in some tacky Girls Gone Wild video filmed in South Beach or whatever, they shook their pom poms for Bush and offensively flashed the rest of America for 8 years. And like Cheney on a hunting trip, they now find themselves with a hangover, a palpable feeling of having been used and no real memory of how they caused our country to wipe out. No wonder they're disgusted with themselves and trying to rag on Obama. ;-(

When Alberto Gonzales asked the reporter how he got in there the reporter said he forgot. Gonzales replied, "I hope you get out alive." I like how they keep reminding each other to hold their heads high. Bye Bye Georgie. TODAY IS THE DAY!!!!

I don't worship at the alter of all things Democratic as you do all things Republican...when Obama makes mistakes, I will be there to criticize (...just as I did President Clinton about a third of the time.....).

But from my vantage point, the only way is up! The Bush presidency has been an unmitigated disaster!

Obama hasn't had a chance yet to make a mess of things...come back in 1 or 2 years, then let's see how you feel about things...I know you don't beleive that things could get worse, but that's wrong, things could get FAR FAR FAR worse. If and when they do, it will be all OBAMA'S FAULT!!!

All I'm saying is, if Obama screws up, he will be held responsible and he will be blamed. Bush is now gone, like it or not, now it's Obamas turn to take all the heat.
Just because I want to hold Obama responsible, that surly is not hateful.
So far, I do like Obama and much of what he stands for, but if he screws up, then he will hear about his mistakes, and rightfully so. What's wrong with that?
You Dems have held Bush responsible and blamed him for everything. In many cases, you blamed Bush for things that he had no say-so over and or had nothing to do with it. I'll be much more fair then that to Obama. I'll give credit where credit is do and will trash when trashing is in order. If you don't think that's fair of me, then that's to damn bad isn't? -

Do whatever you want, 4th. Bush left office with a 22% approval rating. Unless you're truly a halfwit (and believe the other 78% of Americans who disapproved of Bush are all Democrats) you'll admit that Bush was not well liked by the vast majority of Americans. Period. Stay delusional and single out Democrats all you want but facts are facts. ;-P

I was there. I wore an Obama t-shirt and they let me in 'cause they assumed I was being Ironic.

It was freezing ; and the coffee was cold.
Cheney complained, but the waiters just mocked him. They had jobs next week.
Bush kept sending secret service into the kitchen to check that they didn't spit into the soup.
Ann Coulter suggested we build a fire and ex-AG Gonzalez pulled out a huge stack of memos that we set on fire with the peach-flambe.
Everyone crowded around and we were singing "Wind Under My Wings" and it was great, - until that idiot Mukasy started reading the papers we were burning.
Of course he started having a fit and there was a fight and Bush pushed Cheney's wheelchair close to the fire and he popped right out of it the faker.
The secret service guys just stood around. I don't think they were hiding how they felt; easy for them they still have jobs tomorrow.-

Actualy, when people noticed my Obama t-shirt they kept getting me aside and telling me they had been 'loose cannons' not 'team players' all along. Everyone used that same phrase, except Bolton, who said he never knew what was going on and I believe him.
Reply
And they all slipped me their business cards and asked if I could get them an interview.
I told them I would see but really I just lied.

I am a royalist, and my political point of view is through the window by the front door
just above the little table with the lava lamp. From there I can view if those kids are getting on my grass again.
I began the huffington post as an exercise in futility, as I did not believe anybody ever
read anything on line; they just replied to it.
As usualy, I was entirely right.

As the helicopter lifted off, taking Dumbya The War Criminal away for the last time..and watching Cheney The Impaler wheeled into his limo I could hear loud and clear the loud and welcome sound of a toilet flushing.

Those millions who waved goodbye did so with only one finger raised!
The scum is gone. Spray the place with disinfectant and watch the rest of the the Repukes and Neocon disease crawl back under the rocks from whence Dumbya found them.
I'll be visiting D.C. in a few weeks. Ahhhhh. The air will be so much fresher.-

Oh, how sweet it is that Bush is gone. Starting a nonsensical war in Iraq will definitely lead the list. Spending $billions in Iraq and causing unrest resulting in the following:
Reply
1. The National Debt doubled which deflated the dollar to the lowest levels ever recorded.
2. Oil and gas prices spiking to never-before-seen prices because of the unrest in Iraq and the deflated dollar.
3. The stock market falling because of the deflated dollar resulting in workers losing their jobs and not being able to pay their mortgages.
4. etc.
It only takes one spark to ignite the collapse and Bush's policies inevitably was the spark. -
