Comments for Bush's Depressing Goodbye Party: One Staffer Gets Job At Abercrombie »
Posted By david_nwpa 11 months, 2 weeks ago in StyleWashington DC's social scene is in full swing this weekend, with events and galas and fetes and soirees and makeout sessions between Christopher Hitchens and Andrew Sullivan. It's a level of excitement that Washington only occasionally sees. But it's not just the inauguration of Barack Obama that people are celebrating -- it's also the end of the Bush administration, and Sunday night, President Bush and his friends celebrated the end of his term with a party of their own at Glen Echo Park. Slate went, for some reason, and their account makes the whole thing sound like the most depressing event in the world.

The Bush administration is all packed up and moved out. Tomorrow morning, the Obama team will switch from the transition team to the Presidential staff. I can understand why the Bushes are nostalgic, but like an uninvited guest, why can't they just leave quietly without making a scene?

You sort of have to wonder what may have happened had Repubs chosen a more capable flag-bearer. I think that there are many more "conservative" (small C) people out there than the Dems like to think. The problem was that GWB and his crew tried to hitch this to a specific "Conservative" political agenda (capital C), which even many innately conservative voters couldn't buy into. Maybe someone could have pulled this off, but it wasn't GWB.

What other stupidity can be expected from a totally biased group like huffingtonpost. All of the negativity put into that story is stupid. Of course liberals look at things like that as just simple truth. A lie about how bad a conservative is should be believed.
Reply
Well libs think about something. When Bush was inaugurated there were all kinds of left wing hate groups out there protesting. This time there are none. What does that say about the left wing of this country. Which side gives the other side some respect? Surely not the left.-

Um...if you remember correctly, the reason that happened was because Bush and Cheney and Rove divided the country into Red and Blue states during that election. That is what caused the biggest scism our country has seen since the civil war. That is what people were protesting. Well, that and the fact that Bush stole the election.
Reply
Obama actually WON the election and did it by UNITING us instead of DIVIDING us. That is the big difference. That is why conservatives and liberals alike are getting behind Obama. He is not trying to make us fight against each other to keep from noticing what he's doing. He is actually leading us.
Bush gave everyone a reason to hate him. Obama hasn't done that yet. Should he destroy what little Bush didn't dismantle, then he will be held accountable.-

We will see if the left will be inclusive or show their true stripes. If you agree with them it's fine, if not, you are a hate filled bigot. I doubt the left will change. It's the socialist highway or no way. The entitlement line forms to the left.

I don't hate a group of people for being who they are. I hate one man. Bush. And I have good reason to hate him. Hating one person for their actions does not a bigot make.

This election was won because the chicago 'mafia style' political machine bought and paid for this office and obama is their guy. If you think I feel sorry for those people, well, I don't. They followed their leader like children dancing to the tune of the piper and not once did they have public doubts about his policies and question his motives. They road the gravey train until it wrecked all the while with no sensitivity to the harm they and their piper caused.

Don't know that anyone is looking for someone to feel sorry for them. If so, they're in the wrong profession. But what would you normally expect out of someone working in an organization? I was paid (pretty well, thank you) to give advice to a series of bosses. Sometimes it wasn't what they wanted to hear--their throwing creme-filled donuts was a clue. But once a decision is made, one shuts up. You just march along quietly--maybe with misgivings, but you keep them to yourself and do your job. Political parties are no different. I realize that's not the portrait of the heroic whistle-blower. But most of us are not really that kind of person, and fortunately most of us never get put in situations where that's an option.

Lower level employees can't risk rocking the boat for fear of losing their jobs and I sympathize with their plight. It's the higher ups that I feel no sympathy or empathy for. They can almost always find other gainful employment. If you can ignore your conscience or don't have one when confronted with an ethical and moral dilema then you deserve what you get or don't get.

"Protect Whistleblowers: Often the best source of information about waste, fraud, and abuse in government is an existing government employee committed to public integrity and willing to speak out. Such acts of courage and patriotism, which can sometimes save lives and often save taxpayer dollars, should be encouraged rather than stifled. We need to empower federal employees as watchdogs of wrongdoing and partners in performance. Barack Obama will strengthen whistleblower laws to protect federal workers who expose waste, fraud, and abuse of authority in government. Obama will ensure that federal agencies expedite the process for reviewing whistleblower claims and whistleblowers have full access to courts and due process."

Well since I didn't run for office I didn't get "legitimately whupped by the truth", but when I see hypocrisy I call it just that. Now that Obama is the President I will guardedly support him, which is already far more than what a lot of the left did for Bush. People will say after 9/11 he had a 90% but his approval rating before 9/11 was 50% which means the majority of the left didn't support him from the get go.

What angers me is that they don't have the decency to be contrite (or at least keep their bitterness to themselves) until the 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama, gets into office and actually begins running our country and repairing the horrific damage that has been done to us economically, spiritually and in so many, many, other ways.
Reply
Cons seem to have no recollection of the circumstances under which Bush got into office. The country was virtually split down the middle and Bush and his con criminal cluster ignored that reality and governed for the few, the rich and those proud to send other people into battle while they waved flags and waited for tax cuts.
Today they are as much bitter and dejected for having lost in November as they are for having trusted the GOP and gotten precious little in return. Like sad, skanky, drunken sorority chicks in some tacky Girls Gone Wild video filmed in South Beach or whatever, they shook their pom poms for Bush and offensively flashed the rest of America for 8 years. And like Cheney on a hunting trip, they now find themselves with a hangover, a palpable feeling of having been used and no real memory of how they caused our country to wipe out. No wonder they're disgusted with themselves and trying to rag on Obama. ;-(

That statement only proves how naive you truly are.
If Obama can not fix the economy with his 1.2 Trillion dollar bail-out plan, and will soon ask for more billions, then the economy will fold. That will make the great depression look like some sort of party. OH Yes, if that happens the only way is DOWN my friend, WAY WAY down. I truly hope Obama will not let that happen, but the bail-outs so far have done no good, so I hold little hope of Obama's plan to work. SO HANG ON, we maybe in for a very rough ride!
So go ahead and keep your pie in the sky fantasies about what Obama can and will do. I wish Obama the best of luck with it all, because he's going to be needing it!-

Same here. I have no problem acknowledging mistakes made by candidates for whom I have voted.
So, Bush supporters, how many of your false idol's mistakes did you criticize during the past 8 years, or did you just start humming and stare out a window?
Actually, that's an ideal way for any Bush supporter to prove they aren't biased: Make a list of Bush's mistakes during his two terms. Surely you aren't going to claim he made -none-, so how about it? What did he do wrong, and are you intellectually honest enough to admit it? 8) -

"Let stop this blame game, it's counter productive, let's look forward and not backward etc...
Of course the democrats are begging for us to stop the blame game. The Democrats re-invented that game for president Bush. They destroyed him with blame. And now the democrats want the blame game stopped. THAT'S FUNNY. They maybe begging for us to not blame Obama, but yet again, the democrats are living in a fantasy world. Stop the blame game, MY A$$. Are you kidding me, now it's all Obama's fault. We will never forget where to place blame, the Democrats have clearly taught us where the blame lays. "It happened on Obama's watch" NO worries, will do know who to blame...What goes around comes around, don't ever forget that!-

So far, I do like Obama and much of what he stands for, but if he screws up, then he will hear about his mistakes, and rightfully so. What's wrong with that?
You Dems have held Bush responsible and blamed him for everything. In many cases, you blamed Bush for things that he had no say-so over and or had nothing to do with it. I'll be much more fair then that to Obama. I'll give credit where credit is do and will trash when trashing is in order. If you don't think that's fair of me, then that's to damn bad isn't?-

--No...All you're saying is that you're dying for Obama to screw up (even if it means the country will be worse off) because you feel bitter about being raped by the GOP for 8 years. You spread your legs for tax cuts and so you could watch other people send their loved ones off to die for Bush and Cheney's oil cartel. The fact is the flaccid GOP gestapo couldn't perform but threw a dollar on the bed anyway leaving you crying cons empty, sad, frustrated and lonely.
Please...We can read between the lines, 4th. You're terrified and in a maniacal panic because you were duped by your fellow criminal cons in the GOP. That can't be good for your egos or your wallets. But those of us on the left feel betrayed as well. We had to suffer through the disgrace, the crime, the raiding of our treasury, the embarrassment, the lies and much, much more. All because poorly educated cons are easily frightened and were "embarrassed" by Bill Clinton and needed an excuse to beg for tax cuts for 8 years.
It's time for this country to heal and that won't happen if cons keep trying to get revenge and stay on top (where, as everyone knows you people simply cannot perform...or the bottom, now that I think about it). Stop your hateful rhetoric and embrace your new President. Barack Hussein Obama. Do what's right for your country for a change instead of what's right for the GOP You'll feel better. ;-(

Then it's clear you've never studied this president. If he really were the force of evil you left wing nuts claim he is, we would have found a nuke or two in Iraq. If he were evil, we would have seen a nuke strike on Iran already and made to look like one of their labs blowing up. Bush isn't my favorite, he's not a conservative but he's certainly a man who did what he thought was right.

It was freezing ; and the coffee was cold.
Cheney complained, but the waiters just mocked him. They had jobs next week.
Bush kept sending secret service into the kitchen to check that they didn't spit into the soup.
Ann Coulter suggested we build a fire and ex-AG Gonzalez pulled out a huge stack of memos that we set on fire with the peach-flambe.
Everyone crowded around and we were singing "Wind Under My Wings" and it was great, - until that idiot Mukasy started reading the papers we were burning.
Of course he started having a fit and there was a fight and Bush pushed Cheney's wheelchair close to the fire and he popped right out of it the faker.
The secret service guys just stood around. I don't think they were hiding how they felt; easy for them they still have jobs tomorrow.-

Oh, how sweet it is that Bush is gone. Starting a nonsensical war in Iraq will definitely lead the list. Spending $billions in Iraq and causing unrest resulting in the following:
Reply
1. The National Debt doubled which deflated the dollar to the lowest levels ever recorded.
2. Oil and gas prices spiking to never-before-seen prices because of the unrest in Iraq and the deflated dollar.
3. The stock market falling because of the deflated dollar resulting in workers losing their jobs and not being able to pay their mortgages.
4. etc.
It only takes one spark to ignite the collapse and Bush's policies inevitably was the spark. -
