Expectations from Obama: Top 10 »
Posted By entrepreneurboss 11 months, 1 week ago in Political NewsThroughout his campaign, Barrack Obama was seen as a ray of hope. Now that he is the Office, there are a lot of expectations from him. Will he deliver or not, is a bit far. The list of expectations comes not from within the country, but also the whole world.

Well this article is the usual sort of superficial pablum fed to Americans these days. Obama has a chance to get America out of the military imperialism business that has bankrupted the country, but it is already pretty clear from his appointments that he will fail.

The Afghan Scam - Why the U.S. Is Bound to Fail in Afghanistan
With Afghanistan, it always seems to be more and worse. More American (and NATO) troops "surging" in, more Taliban control in the countryside, more insurgent attacks, more sophisticated roadside bombs, more deadly suicide bombings, more dead American and NATO troops, more problems with U.S. supply lines into Afghanistan, more civilian deaths from American and NATO military operations, more U.S. bases being built, more billions of U.S. dollars needed for military operations -- Secretary of Defense Robert Gates recently indicated that the build-up of U.S. forces alone in that country in the next fiscal year could cost an extra $5.5 billion -- and, of course, yet more reports and studies indicating that everything yet tried to "stabilize" Afghanistan has gone desperately wrong.
...the Bush administration perpetrated a scam. It used the system it set up to dispense reconstruction aid to both the countries it "liberated," Afghanistan and Iraq, to transfer American taxpayer dollars from the national treasury directly into the pockets of private war profiteers. Think of Halliburton, Bechtel, and Blackwater in Iraq; Louis Berger Group, Bearing Point, and DynCorp International in Afghanistan. They're all in it together. So far, the Bush administration has bamboozled Americans about its shady aid program. Nobody talks about it. Yet the aid scam, which would be a scandal if it weren't so profitable for so many, explains far more than does troop strength about why, today, we are on the verge of watching the whole Afghan enterprise go belly up.
What's worse, there's no reason to expect that things will change significantly on Barack Obama's watch. During the election campaign, he called repeatedly for more troops for "the right war" in Afghanistan (while pledging to draw-down U.S. forces in Iraq), but he has yet to say a significant word about the reconstruction mission. While many aid workers in that country remain full of good intentions, the delivery systems for and uses of U.S. aid have been so thoroughly corrupted that we can only expect more of the same -- unless Obama cleans house fast. But given the monumental problems on his plate, how likely is that? ...

Because of Bush's surge, Obama will be able to withdraw troops from Iraq. In fact, Bush has graciously delayed withdrawals to give Obama a chance to fulfill a campaign pledge. Yet Obama will not totally withdraw and he will remain ready to commit troops back into Iraq. While Afghanistan seems to be looming as the larger problem now, the possibility of a collapsing Iraq still remains the greatest potential catalyst for world war. Since the election, through national security briefings, Obama now understands this... and will act accordingly.

He should walk on water also.
Many of these things a president has no control over. Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Palestinians all have terrorist Muslims involved who for religious reasons will not give an inch unless it is to gain time to regroup for the next assault. We are very good at killing the incoming insurgents in Iraq now. The Clinton sized army is to small to do both Iraq and Afghanistan as well as having troops based in Bosnia, Germany, etc. Anything accomplished with India/Pakistan and Palestinians would be temporary at best. The major problem in Afghanistan is the terrorists based in Pakistan.
I love the lower taxes part. The Democrats in Congress are chaffing at the bit to raise taxes. Good luck there. The only way to create jobs is to create a climate where the people who do the hiring are empowered to do that by the fiscal environment. How is that to be accomplished. Ask 10 different economists and you will get 10 different answers. Good luck.-

Are you talking about the same terrorists (in Afghanistan and Pakistan) who fought the proxy war for America. Come on man, get a life. It is very easy to point at others rather than admitting own mistake. The present situation in that part of world has a past too, & American influence has contributed a lot for the present situation. When you say president has no control over. I don't agree to that. The popularity of America in those part of world is not good and it must be because of some reason. I think there is a lot of expectations that Obama would make some sensible decisions involving all the stake holders. Lets hope for the best.

Barack Obama is a pragmatist. And a pragmatist always drifts to the center. Now I already knew Obama is more conservative than I am when I decided to vote for him. But jeez, that's ALWAYS been that way with the Democrats for me. Only this time, Obama sold me on ideals I fundamentally believe in...namely, a restoration of integrity and CONSTITUTIONALITY of our government. And an end to a war Bush should never have started.

And now we have an economy on the verge of collapse and even the "drown the government in the bathtub" conservatives are demanding action.
As a proponent of Keynesian economics, I'm hoping that the momentum of the shift - brought on by We, the People - will keep Obama's eyes on the ball... I expect a new New Deal that leads to a green technology and energy boom (I beleive that we WILL see this)and infrastructure projects to provide jobs and get the economy moving again. I expect an end to the Iraq war. And I expect some form of national health care.
These are all mainstream in today's world. And for me it's really simple: if he can do these things, he will have my vote for re-election in 2012...-

Have you looked at the bill in the House as far as infrastructure??
Reply
Virtually everyone living in the United States would be affected by the plan. A $500 tax cut would reach 95 percent of workers and $1,000 for working couples. First-time home buyers purchasing homes between Jan. 1 and June 30 would get a $7,500 tax credit, and local school districts would be spared severe cuts as state and local governments budgets collapse — to the tune of $120 billion over the next two years. States would get $87 billion worth of help with their Medicaid budgets over the next two years.
But there's also money for fresh sod for the National Mall and millions of $40 coupons to help people adapt their old televisions for digital signals
The measure also contains about $90 billion for traditional infrastructure projects such as road and bridge repair and construction, modernizing federal building, clean water and flood control projects, and rail and mass transit construction.
$90 billion out of $825 billion for "traditional" infrastructure - aren't you impressed?
The tax cuts/rebates total $275 billion - 3 times more than the amount included for traditional infrastructure -

Keynesian demand-side economics has its place at a time in the long (Kondratieff) cycle, but definitely not throughout the cycle.

At this time, I would give a nod to New Deal type public works on the energy grid and major efforts on energy independence involving ALL elements of "home grown" power, with a particularly strong effort to develop nuclear power. -

The problem is that it is easy to say things when you are running for office. Then when you are being prepared to take office things change in their viewpoint. He was briefed the same as the president and had several briefings on how different programs to protect the country operated and the results they gave. This is the big "Oops, I didn't know that." Then the responsibility for the country falls on their shoulders. They are no longer the candidate but have to make the life changing decisions for the country. He will need all the help he can get. Everyone hopes he will succeed. If he doesn't that will be disastrous for the country.

This is a heavy to-do-list for one single person! Barack Obama won´t have the possibility to become a mediocre president. There are, concidering these extraordinary expectations, only two possibilities: He will either be the best president America ever had or one of the worst and most overestimated. Let´s see!

1 - Improve economy
Reply
“Economy is the key issue where he will be looked into by his voters. It is said that McCain’s chances dwindled in October last year, when the markets collapsed. Will Obama improve the economic meltdown? Everyone is so concerned over it. “
WOW!.
Question, has ANY President ever came into office with the goal of making the Economy worse?
Nope. Okay, strike that one as nothing “new” or “change”
- Create jobs
The Government can ONLY create Government jobs, or “jobs” as a result of government actions.
Other than that this is the same as #1.
3 - Reduce tax
“Again pegged with economy, tax cutting is where American would like to see him. He can certainly ask for the reduction of tax for the middle class, at least.”
So now Obama aggress with Joe the Plumber?
4 - Make up a good team
His appointments have drawn mixed reactions; yet by and large they are not much bad. His team may very well decide his own stand. Remember the Bush-Cheney affair!
WOW this is a bizarre statement.
“His team may very well decide his own stand.” So the perception of some that Obama is an “empty suit” is true?
“Remember the Bush-Cheney affair!”
Lets see, hum, lots of accusations but no charges.
In fact the failure to go forward with the prosecution of George W. Bush & co. “IS” tantamount to an admittance that Bush did nothing wrong, and there NEVER were ANY REAL Charges.
Prove me wrong by stating the charge the day it went to court and the outcome from a jury.
Kinda sorta basic ya think! -

Ease India-Pakistan tension
Reply
As opposed to what? Increasing tension tween India-Pakistan?
Seriously, who came up with this list?
- Focus on Afghanistan
“Moreover, he may (or may not) increase the troops stationed there”.
Please, could you be more vague?
BTW, Obama is on record repeatedly stating the “surge” didn’t work, won’t work and so on.
Barack Obama said he was "not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq are going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse."
Get out of Iraq?
More troops are deployed in Iraq than in Afghanistan despite the main concern being Afghanistan. He may very withdraw American forces from Iraq.
"He may very withdraw"
QUE?
The main concern today may be Afghanistan, but that’s due to the success in Iraq.
The “main concern” is where ever we can find a large concentration of terrorist to engage.
