FTA: ""We believe that the oath of office was administered effectively and that the President was sworn in appropriately yesterday. But the oath appears in the Constitution itself. And out of an abundance of caution, because there was one word out of sequence, Chief Justice Roberts administered the oath a second time," he said.

Article 2, Section 1, Clause 8 of the Constitution states:
"Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
Roberts' flub on Tuesday sent the new chief executive into a verbal detour of his own.""
Better safe than sorry!! -

I have been watching the transition today mostly on MSNBC and really like the way things are going.

I don't like the guy who is being drilled for the Treasury spots excuse but they say he is needed to get the job done.
Hillary was sworn in tonight, at this time IMHO I think they have hit the ground running.
I am waiting for them to post the the things he signed today to see what if any thing he's repealed of Bush's on the environment. -

I'm a right wing conservative who truly dislikes Barry but I think it was a good idea. There are so many wingnuts on both sides of the isle that would have made a huge deal out of this. This has happened before when mistakes were made. Word has it, Judge Roberts insisted they slowed it down this time. Big deal, we have 1459 days until he's gone.

Was Condoleezza Rice actually Americans FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT and also Americas FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT???? Check this out!
Reply
Cheney and Bush were "officially" signed off from their duties right at 12:00 NOON on Tuesday.
Obama's inauguration was running about 3 minutes late. So in essence we had a few minutes with NO ACTING PRESIDENT. However, sine Bush and Cheney were no longer in power, and Obama was yet to be handed power, and the fact we are not allowed to have even 1 second without an acting president. Then that power would have been taken by the secretary of state. At the time, that was Condoleezza Rice. SO IN THEORY, Condoleezza Rice became Americans FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT and also the Americas FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT, for about 90 seconds that is! There's some more info about this here.

However, seems there's a little confusion in Section 1 of the 20th Amendment that is supose to clearify how this trasition is suppose to take place. Who knows for sure, but it is very interesting in any case.
OK Dems, you can really let me have it for posting these facts.-

Only slightly confusing compared to the 2nd Amendment....
Reply
Does it refer to a group (militia) bearing arms, or to individuals bearing arms, or both?
The whole thing should be re-written and modernized by those with the balls to do so.. -

Check the most recent update on your page. They now say that Joe Biden was sworn into office before noon on Tuesday, so he (technically) was acting President before President Obama took the oath of office, so Condi never got the chance to become President. Sorry to burst your bubble there.

Darn those nasty little facts. Getting in the way of a good delusion. ;)

I think they're still hashing out the birth certificate thing in court...I just don't know and don't care really. Let the courts decide if they haven't already. I haven't heard one way or the other. If it has been settled, then must be he's a true citizen, otherwise we would have surly heard about it.

Holy cow. This raises some interesting and possibly troubling questions about oaths. For instance, my wife of four years (or possibly not, now that I think about it...OMG) maintains that at our wedding in Vegas, my reply to the Justice of the Peace's questions each time was "SHE'LL do" and not "I do." My wife also says it was at the same chapel Britney Spears married that guy for 36 hours or whatever...The thing is, despite the fact that I was drunk at the time and we had both sparked up a coupla humongous doobies right before the ceremony, I find this hard to believe.
Reply
Not that I think my wife is lying, insensitive or unstable...Except for that one time I came home and found our cat tumbling around in our clothes dryer and my wife passed out drunk in the jacuzzi. Talk about a wakeup call...She doesn't even like to bathe all that much (my wife, not the cat) so I knew something was up. But I digress...
What if my wife's memory of our wedding is right (even though she was high as a kite--I suppose it's possible) could this mean we really aren't legally married? I love my wife but sometimes I wonder if the ability to file income taxes jointly was worth the trip to Vegas for a ceremony I am fairly sure happened (even though my wife refuses to show me our marriage certificate...she's like that sometimes). Plus I've never actually had a job for more than a couple weeks at a time. But I guess I'm wondering if the ceremony would be valid (or invalid) if I can't remember it? In divorce court it would be her word against mine. Not that we're planning to divorce...or even to see a marriage counselor. Just sleeping in separate bedrooms (she's at our place and I'm in our van) until we iron this whole felony assault misunderstanding thing out. Whatever... Things between us are fine. Just wondering. ;-0 -

Unfortunately for a hatemonger like you, the truth is, you did not run Bush out power, nor did anyone else, his term was over. A term that was the result from Americans electing him for the SECOND time.
Reply
And you are definitely right, "ALL HE SAID WAS YES WE CAN and CHANGE". I know toddlers that can say that. Way to vote for substance. YES we can become a socialist country, now we are all suppose to be one and not criticize or else you are a racist. Now that the liberal media has their guy in office, America is better, the skies have opened. The security guard at my office told me he was glad the racist Bush was kicked out (not kicked out, term ended). When asked how was he racists....the response was he has kept black people down. Then again, when asked specifically how that was the case....I was told everything...then I asked what was everything?...I was then told everything and his daddy, again I asked what specifically have they done that has kept blacks down?...then I was told , the start wars.....When I said there are more whites in the military than blacks.....the response I was met with was, well they are just racists.
When I said, even Obama acknowledges the HUGE contribution of Lincoln to change the lives of black people, I was told...yea...Lincoln is the man. When I brought up that Lincoln is the man and was a republican...I got the response that Lincoln was not a republican he was for all the people.
socialistcons may not understand the conflict in this last statement, but it is clear that people are easily brainwashed and will be led like lemmings like the socialistcons.
At least in this country, we can still have this debate.. Amen for that.

We've never had a black president, either...so what?
In any case, you may be interested to know that A) the Constitution does not require the president to be sworn in on a bible, and B) some of us think he'd be better swearing in on the Constitution, anyhow...you know, the document he's promising to uphold? 8) -

I notice you never say anything patriotic.
Reply
You never express any love, pride or hope for America.
Patriotism is not a label you can write on your name-tag.
And yet, you do teach us something about patriotism;
We can learn the shape of something, by its absence.

It shows Obama understands the danger.
He must weigh every decision, not just for sound policy,
- but will the un-american right will be given some opportunity to screw with reality or the fate of this nation?
"I hope he fails" - rush limbaugh.
They will snarl that we treated Bush and company just as viciously.
As though we opposed Bush for who he was, not what he did.
They will smile and say they love their country;
while poking at every hole they can find in the fabric of its unity.
Rebuke them.
Toss their flag pin frauds back in their faces.
Never let them forget the lies they peddled before.
Obama won because truth beat lies in 2008;
that was a miracle.
Now we must work for another one. -

I suppose if you think so...But when exactly did a President's public speaking abilities become important to you? And what makes a good public speaker? Why does the presence or lack of a tele-prompter matter so much to you where Obama is concerned? Thanks...Just trying to see if you actually have a purpose for posting other than to p*ss and moan a lot. I think I know the answer already but just making sure. ;-)
