FTA: ""We believe that the oath of office was administered effectively and that the President was sworn in appropriately yesterday. But the oath appears in the Constitution itself. And out of an abundance of caution, because there was one word out of sequence, Chief Justice Roberts administered the oath a second time," he said.

Article 2, Section 1, Clause 8 of the Constitution states:

"Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Roberts' flub on Tuesday sent the new chief executive into a verbal detour of his own.""

    Better safe than sorry!!

I have been watching the transition today mostly on MSNBC and really like the way things are going.

I don't like the guy who is being drilled for the Treasury spots excuse but they say he is needed to get the job done.

Hillary was sworn in tonight, at this time IMHO I think they have hit the ground running.

I am waiting for them to post the the things he signed today to see what if any thing he's repealed of Bush's on the environment.

Obama wanted no mess ups, so he retook the oath to be sure it was done right and not come back to bit him in the butt.

How many of us could stand in front of so many people, taking on such a position and not be a little nervous. I am glad he retook it though so Americas time is not waisted on another meaningless issue.

I'm a right wing conservative who truly dislikes Barry but I think it was a good idea. There are so many wingnuts on both sides of the isle that would have made a huge deal out of this. This has happened before when mistakes were made. Word has it, Judge Roberts insisted they slowed it down this time. Big deal, we have 1459 days until he's gone.

Good for him no shame in a little mix up of the words. I think I saw a little grin on his libs when it happened.

Was Condoleezza Rice actually Americans FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT and also Americas FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT???? Check this out!

Cheney and Bush were "officially" signed off from their duties right at 12:00 NOON on Tuesday.
Obama's inauguration was running about 3 minutes late. So in essence we had a few minutes with NO ACTING PRESIDENT. However, sine Bush and Cheney were no longer in power, and Obama was yet to be handed power, and the fact we are not allowed to have even 1 second without an acting president. Then that power would have been taken by the secretary of state. At the time, that was Condoleezza Rice. SO IN THEORY, Condoleezza Rice became Americans FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT and also the Americas FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT, for about 90 seconds that is! There's some more info about this here.
    http://volokh.com/archives/archive_2009_01_18-2009...

However, seems there's a little confusion in Section 1 of the 20th Amendment that is supose to clearify how this trasition is suppose to take place. Who knows for sure, but it is very interesting in any case.

OK Dems, you can really let me have it for posting these facts.

So now all we have to deal with coming from the wingnuts is the "birth certificate" nonsense. Good job, Obama. Well done!

Holy cow. This raises some interesting and possibly troubling questions about oaths. For instance, my wife of four years (or possibly not, now that I think about it...OMG) maintains that at our wedding in Vegas, my reply to the Justice of the Peace's questions each time was "SHE'LL do" and not "I do." My wife also says it was at the same chapel Britney Spears married that guy for 36 hours or whatever...The thing is, despite the fact that I was drunk at the time and we had both sparked up a coupla humongous doobies right before the ceremony, I find this hard to believe.

Not that I think my wife is lying, insensitive or unstable...Except for that one time I came home and found our cat tumbling around in our clothes dryer and my wife passed out drunk in the jacuzzi. Talk about a wakeup call...She doesn't even like to bathe all that much (my wife, not the cat) so I knew something was up. But I digress...

What if my wife's memory of our wedding is right (even though she was high as a kite--I suppose it's possible) could this mean we really aren't legally married? I love my wife but sometimes I wonder if the ability to file income taxes jointly was worth the trip to Vegas for a ceremony I am fairly sure happened (even though my wife refuses to show me our marriage certificate...she's like that sometimes). Plus I've never actually had a job for more than a couple weeks at a time. But I guess I'm wondering if the ceremony would be valid (or invalid) if I can't remember it? In divorce court it would be her word against mine. Not that we're planning to divorce...or even to see a marriage counselor. Just sleeping in separate bedrooms (she's at our place and I'm in our van) until we iron this whole felony assault misunderstanding thing out. Whatever... Things between us are fine. Just wondering. ;-0

Please sing to the tune of "Old McDonald"

"Chief Justice Roberts read an oath
      E I E I Oh
the mistake he made was said both
      E I E I Oh
A mistake here, a mistake there, and it was heard most everywhere

      2nd verse

      Barack Obama retook that oath
      E I E I OH
He got advice and said lets do it twice
He took it twice because twice is nice
      E I E I Oh

      3rd verse

Dick Cheney showed up in a chair
      E I E I Oh
He hurt himself but we don't care
It's said he wears pink underwear
      E I E I Oh

      4th verse
Ole George Bush has left the house
      E I E I OH
WE ran him out just like a mouse
      E I E I Oh
His war has been so very long, because again that Bush was WRONG!
      E I E I Oh

      5th verse
      Mrs.Clinton had a plan
      E I EI Oh
To run the White House with her man
      E I E I oh
Bill Clinton here, Bill Clinton there, Bill Clinton sneaking everywhere!
      E I E I Oh

      6th verse
Ole Joe Biden has a wife
      E I E I Oh
She said some things we did'nt know,
and she said them on the Oprah show
      E I E I Oh
She said this and she said that
Joe almost had to knock her flat!
      E I E I Oh

      7th verse
Ole John McCain, he made a choice
      E I E I Oh
He picked a gal with an awful voice
      EI EI Oh
She brought this and she brought that, and hesitantly gave them back!!
      E I E I Oh

Now all lets just get along and sing the last verse of this sweet song.

      All together now!
      last verse, I promise!

      Obama has made history
      Regardless of his family tree
      And
All he said was "Yes We Can"
      Now Obama is the Man!

      EEEEEE IIIIIIIIIII EEEEEEEEEE IIIIIIIIII, OOOOOH!

      Thank you very much!

      So now he's really president
      and

all you con-nuts making a stink about the way the oath went the first time should remember these words from it---

and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Ole GW certainly flubbed that part & you genius's gave him a second chance to say it

I'm glad he did it I just wish he would have had a Bible present when he did so. Never before in history has a president not said the oat without one.

        Nit picking? Maybe,,,,,

        it is an ominous beginning.
It shows Obama understands the danger.
He must weigh every decision, not just for sound policy,
        - but will the un-american right will be given some opportunity to screw with reality or the fate of this nation?

"I hope he fails" - rush limbaugh.

They will snarl that we treated Bush and company just as viciously.
As though we opposed Bush for who he was, not what he did.
        They will smile and say they love their country;
while poking at every hole they can find in the fabric of its unity.

        Rebuke them.
Toss their flag pin frauds back in their faces.
Never let them forget the lies they peddled before.

        Obama won because truth beat lies in 2008;
        that was a miracle.

Now we must work for another one.
