There used to be a time when major industries were regulated (i.e. telephone, natural gas, electricity, ... things that an average person would somewhat rely on to basically function from day to day). Deregulating alot of them provided for many benefits (i.e. competition). Problem: somewhere along the way, unchecked capitalism became predatory. Greed took over, and people whom you would expect to benefit were blown to the waste side. American workers are getting laid off and their lives ruined while companies are free to hire foreign work from one source or another.
Reply
I'm all for free market, but I would hope that the companies that have this freedom would exercise some social responsibility by supporting their country with employment opportunities.
I remember when Dubbya got on TV and talked about all the job outsourcing. He said that there would be more advanced opportunities available, but we would have to get trained for them. This was more bologna from our favorite leader.
Some regulation so that people can get traction and start living again - GOOD
Restricting pay, regulating companies into oblivion, repeatedly fixing with cash infusions - BAD-

Deregulation has affected more than our commerce, look at the devastation to our health industry. Now that the FDA safety standards are so lax, we have contaminated meds, contaminated food, contaminated water, etc. Quality health care has been replaced by greedy HMO's who put people's lives at risk in order to save a buck.

I think the problem is a FREE market being confused with a FAIR market. I think almost every American really wants a FAIR market vs. a FREE market. I prefer a FAIR market. That means I expect any store to sell me the same gallon or the same pound. I want someone to make sure someone isn't putting water in the gas tank or horsemeat in my ground beef.

"I hope Obama fails at changing us into a Marxist Nation."
Reply
Judging from all the negatives you received for that post, I'd say the Dems obviously disagree with you. So, that would mean they are all for a Marxist Nation. What else could their negative reaction mean? Looks to me that the Dems will blindly follow Obama's plans and ideas to the end. They will have no criticisms and will ask no questions of anything Obama says or does, just go along with anything and everything. I think that's called a CULT. In fact, us conservatives here will be trashed to death if we even think to say anything negative about Obama. The left will simply refuse anyone to have an opinion that differs from their own. Kinda sick isn't!-

Obama has a lawyer working for him who's client was Fidel Castro's brother.
Obama supported the biggest bailout in history when almost everyone knew that this was a bailout of bush's buddies. Seems that some of them were obama's buddies too i.e. Fannie Mae.
Obama wants to close Guantanamo and bring terrorists here to American soil. WTF!! Why?
Is this what you want from Obama's policy's?

Let me ask you some simple questions regarding George bush:
Reply
Would you want Bush's policy on torture to fail? Obviously you did since you were against it.
Would you have like George Bush's policy on wiretapping without warrant to fail? Obviously you did since you were against it.
Would you like George Bush's policy's on the environment to fail? Obviously you did since you were against that too.
See here we have the Libs. that for eight years wanted EVERYTHING that Bush did to fail. We heard it on the news. We heard it on propeller and we heard it from the Olbermann's of the world.
But say one thing about Obama and the Libs. go crazy.
I heard Rush's comments. He isn't happy that you Libs. would want to bring Terrorists here and spend billions of dollars creating a new facility to house them. Obviously we can't house them in regular prisons so we are forced to spend more money on another Prison instead of just leaving them in Guantanamo. Get it. Ya Rush wants this p[olicy to fail so we don't have terrorists in America.
What I don't get is the Liberal mentality. The terrorists had no problem ramming planes into thousands of AMericans, yet, we don't have the backbone to keep them locked up in cages where they belong. Soon they will be watching TV and working out just like here in America. These people aren't even part of the Geneva convention since that is for uniformed troops only. Yet the Libs. want to treat them like they are. WHY?-

why didn't you care that GW created Gulags in America ... the same type of Gulag employed by the Godless Commies ... and described by Alexander Solzhenitsyn: Solzhenitsyn .... described as the very symbol of Moral Vacancy.
See, you just don't seem to have the fortitude necessary to maintain American-style Patriotism and American-style Values.

Remarkably shallow analysis! No, you heard policy criticism. You heard failure criticism.
Reply
The fact that your criticism comes before policy merely proves that your opinion is bogus and not related to policy at all. That you seek the failure of America speaks volumes. Blind allegiance to a failed coup.
Pathetic faith in a false god of materialism.
Rush at least is merely a who#@, turning tricks to get oxycontin.
What do his idiot followers get out of it? A few minutes of lustful infidelity?
The loss of ones intellect, sense of decency, and the obvious cost of such debauchery on the economy is far too high a price for the pleasure of believing a matrix-like illusion.-

You have remarkably selective memory. The incessant criticism and hate directed at Bush started well before the inauguration with the constant accusations of the "stolen election" , abated for a couple of months after 9/11 and then swung right back in to full-throated hatred which continues unabated right through today.
I am seeing fewer personal attacks on Obama (except for from the extreme right) than are directed at Bush, but even criticisms of Obama's policies and cabinet choices (some of which are really quite bizarre) are met with accusations of "wanting him to fail" which is unpatriotic.
You guys could not see why, when we were at war, a constant clamoring of dissenters insisting that the war was unwinnable and illegal and immoral could be construed as not supporting your country, are flinging the same accusations of lack of patriotism at people who are questioning Obama's appointment of a former chief of staff with NO intelligence experience whatsoever as head of the CIA, his decision to close Gitmo, his executive order to use the Field Army Manual (or whatever it's called ) as the guide to ALL interrogations (although he did leave a "Jack Bauer" wiggle room clause in there). This manual does not even allow the interrogators the latitude of local law enforcement (according to the Wall Street Journal this am) -- no good cop/bad cop, no lying, no stress allowed.
As far as the economy is concerned, his bailout plan with another trillion dollars in deficit spending is more likely a recipe for disaster than for recovery. And I will give you that Bush's and Congress's spending over the last eight years has exacerbated the problem.
There IS policy to criticize and that's what I'm doing. I hope all this works, but I have serious doubts.

Protoham, actually I was hoping he would stop failing. The nation really did not have to make that wish, we got it whether we said it or not. Things got to a point that most just wanted him to go away and that's not a bad thing. Unfortunately, there wasn't the will from our representatives to impeach him earlier.

I am just happy we don't have McCain and 4 more years of "Tax Cuts" to cure everything including the common cold. I believe in capitalism and free market. However, I will take socialism or what ever system than see the nation with Palin's best policy, heaven forbid McCain had to pass the responsibility for the nation. We can call a pig with lipstick democracy if we want but doesn't make it so.

What ever Obama does, I have to believe it will be better than the alternative the repugs would have inflicted on the nation for 4 more years.
Considering it like that, you have to feel better. Rush don't make policy. As such, like Rev. Wright, he don't matter other than one vote.-

Mercy...I think Obama should seriously consider reorganizing his priorities and moving education (perhaps including countrywide intensive remedial education courses for Rush and Bush supporters) ahead of the economy. That's clearly where we need a stimulus program. America is under attack but I fear it will be brought down not by terrorism or an imploding economy but rather due to a surge in the already huge population of extremely poorly educated cons. This problem is absolutely out of control but I think we can tackle it. Yes we can! ;-x

"This person has got to be one of the most unpatriotic persons in America and needs to be expelled from our country."
Think a minute about that comment. When a person states what they think someone like EE believes that they should be expelled from the country. That is disgusting hate speech. A lot of it comes from the left. What happened to freedom of speech. Liberals said worse things about Bush right after the election in 2000. The hateful lies started then. This is not a lie but an expression of what he believes. But for that he should be expelled.
The left has for most of Bushes term of office has engaged in very partisan hate speech about him. There was a break after 9/11 but it picked up again not long after. Criminal, ignoring laws, Nazi, Fascist, trampled the constitution, etc., etc. The left engages in a lot of hate speech that they do not even see as hate speech. But let the right say things about what they believe and they are accused of hate speech. Take off the blinders lefties. Look at how you use the loaded words calling people hateful names.
Then you support removing freedom of speech for the right on the only avenue they have. Talk radio. Your fairness doctrine is just that. A way of removing the conservative talk from the airwaves. It would be financially impossible for radio stations to comply so they would have NO POLITICAL TALK. But that is what liberals want. Schumer likened conservative talk to porn. This is disgusting. One of the principles this country was founded on was the concept of "I disagree with what you say but I will die for your right to say it." Where has that concept gone for the left. No discussion of differences but just diatribes against the opposition and wanting to expel and silence the opposition. That is unAmerican. This country was founded on free speech.-

I recall a conservative centric post that listed nearly 50 airlines, suggesting Reverend Wright could leave his native land; after fighting for it as a Marine. Did Rush ever serve the nation? Did he ever clear those drug charges? I know he is still profiting from selling garbage on the air. For those that take Rush serious enough to be offended, I just ask that you don't lose any sleep. You know Rush is not a reliable or credible source, treat him accordingly. You empower him by following up his folly.

I don't listen to Rush often. I simply don't have the time. I did however catch his interview where they took his partial quote from. The question circled around his ultra left wing liberal agenda. High taxes, more handouts and big spending government solutions. He was asked if he wanted to see all of Obama's left-wing agenda. That was where he said he didn't want him to succeed. Rush did say he wanted to see America to succeed. Doesn't sound unpatriotic to me.-

Reverend Wright made it clear that if America does all the wrong things, then we can't ask God to bless America but the opposite is enviable. The rest is history. Rev Wright is likely to vote for Obama and Rush is not. Once again, the universe is back in balance. The rest of us had better act in behalf of our future on pocketbook issues, war, education and the whole economy. Rush is radical and not likely to give Obama's policy a fair shake. Why consider his biased opinion if you want the truth?

Wright? The good rev referred to my race as whitey. He's hardly the person I want counseling our president. As for Rush, he's an entertainer. What's the difference when you have the Baldwins claiming they would leave the country if Bush won? Johnny Depp moving to France because of Bush. Rosie attacks Bush and marriage on her show, nothing is said. Sean Penn visiting Chavez claiming a murdering dictator is a better leader than ours. Whoopie Goldberg attacks "Bush" it's fine. Funny how it's free speech, when it's a liberal attacking a conservative. Reverse that and it's a travesty compared to hate speech or treason.

My point is Rush is not subject to special treatment. He opened his simple mouth and a good portion of the nation did not agree with his bias. Quite frankly, the news media did not rag him nearly as much as they did Rev. Wright. I know the goal was to discredit Obama as a candidate but Rush is on his own.
