Interesting. I've had numerous dealing with politicians from all parties over the years and for the most part this is what I think of the financial meltdown;

The US politicians, this would include Republicans as well as Democrats, decide to put generations of 'We the People' under the mill stone of a very large and cumbersome debt so they, the politicians, can basically say that they tried to save the 'Free Enterprise System' so that 'We the People' should 'keep them in power' for their inept oversight of the 'common good' of 'their citizens'. ( I do say 'their citizens' very sarcastically for a large number of our 'elected leaders' feel as though they are 'entitled to their positions' irregardless of their performance, not that they have to work for their positions by not only accurately representing their constituency but actually do something productive for their constituency.)
IMO the bail out(s) is not about the finances of our financial institutions, market conditions of our major and small business, or the 'pocket book of the little guy', it is about 'appearing to do good' when in reality the politicians failed in a very remarkable and devastating way to put the 'financial common good' of it citizenry first on their list of political priorities.. In short they were willfully and intentionally negligent to the point of criminality with respect to this 'financial crisis' and the basic well being of their constituency , 'We the People'.
