"I recognize that there are still some differences around the table and between the administration and members of Congress about particular details on the plan," he said. "But I think what unifies this group is a recognition that we are experiencing an unprecedented, perhaps, economic crisis that has to be dealt with, and dealt with rapidly."

I look for Obama to try bipartisan support on stimulus package until he gets fed up with their politics and tells them to pound salt. The Republicans have the audacity to think they know what is going on after having their head up their @ss for the last eight years and now claim they have the taxpayers best interest at heart. Why didn't they have that attitude when Bush was in office? Maybe we wouldn't be in this mess we're in now.
OH WAIT, I'm sorry, I forgot that it was Clinton's fault that we have this terrible federal debt because he screwed up when he left office with a balanced budget.

Tell yourselves we're not in trouble:

There are over 42 million American adults, 20 percent of whom hold high school diplomas, who cannot read, as well as the 50 million who read at a fourth- or fifth-grade level. Nearly a third of the nation's population is illiterate or barely literate. And their numbers are growing by an estimated 2 million a year. But even those who are supposedly literate retreat in huge numbers into this image-based existence. A third of high school graduates, along with 42 percent of college graduates, never read a book after they finish school. Eighty percent of the families in the United States last year did not buy a book.

A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves.

The best economic stimulus plan anyone could do would be to STOP TRYING STIMULUS PLANS!! Try a GROWTH plan instead.
Reagan figured out that getting out of the way of private enterprise and lowering business taxes would grow the economy. Clinton, Bush and now Obama all seem to not be able to recognise this simple approach. Handing out little lump sums of cash in the hopes it will "stimulate" the economy won't do any long term good, it hasn't in the past and it never will. I liken that to giving a heart attack victim CPR but then letting him go back to eating his cheeseburger instead of getting him to the hospital.

Reagan was up against much worse numbers than Obama is now. Worse inflation, much higher interest rates and double digit unemployment.

Hopefully someone with some sense will maybe guide our new, very inexperienced and apparently malleable President into a fiscally responsible leader.

Agreed Scott. I also agree with my senator who says the bailout/stimulus plans have been so capriciously authorized with such poor accountability that the only thing being stimulated is taxpayer anxiety.

The first round of bail-outs did no good, so why would anyone beleive more will fix the problem. I REALLY DO HOPE that more money tossed at it will fix the problem, but I truly doubt that it will.
I beleive we're on a train that's just about to crash, it has to much momentum, there's no stopping it. Hang on, it isn't going to be very pretty when our economy totally collapses. Just look at what's going on and has been going on, all this is totally unprecedented, the country has never seen anything like what's going right now...I FEAR SOMETHING BIG AND UGLY IS COMING!

Hey, we've gone a few days now without any new reports of powerful people in high places that have ripped us off for BILLIONS of dollars. Just wait, we will be hearing many more soon. For ever one person who does get caught, there must be 10 or more others who have not been caught yet. More ripping us off is coming, you can bank on it!

Why should Republicans fall in line and drink the Obama Kool Aid?
The Dems caused trouble for Bush constantly during his term, so bend over Obama.
              Here it comes.

I say it's about time the American people wake up.

The first bail-out money disappeared, it fixed NOTHING. Seems the banks don't know or won't say where that 350 BILLION DOLLARS went. Isn't that enough for us to say. NO MORE!? I guess not.
So lets continue on a ways further here.

                #1
Banks received 350 BILLION, it's gone, no ones knows where it went. RED FLAG #1

                #2
Some of the most powerful people in the country have ripped us off for countless billions of dollars. RED FLAG #2

                #3
Seems about every day or so, we learn of yet more politicians who are nothing more then corrupt lying thieves. RED FLAG #3

                #4
Our government seems to want to simply ignore all the above problems.
                RED FLAG #4

                #5
All these problems have ruined the economy, and even more importantly, it has ruined our trust in the government and the markets. But yet, the government doesn't seem to want to do anything to stop these problems and or stop this type of behavior. RED FLAG #5

                #6
Now Obama is asking us to give up BILLIONS MORE. Billions more that is mostly PORK so it will do no good. The evidence says it will do no good. RED FLAG #6

                #7
Lack of money is not the problem here people. The only reason we have these problems is do to rip offs, scammers, corruption and greed. So, they have the nerve to ask us to give up even more money to these (rip offs, scammers, corrupt greedy pr*cks) The thieves have already cleaned us out, and now they ask us to volunteer giving them even more money. LOT'S MORE, That's not right. RED FLAG #7

Here's what NEEDS to be done to fix the problems. Obama needs to get very very tough. He should go after everyone and anyone who is involved with all this corruption. He should insist that all of them be put on trial RIGHT AWAY. All of them should be prosecuted and then imprisoned for a very long time. They should also be forced to give up all the money they stole and EVERYTHING they own. WE NEED ACCOUNTABILITY AND JUSTICE. But the problem is, we are not going to get it.

Have you heard Obama mention one single word about (ACCOUNTABILITY AND JUSTICE) NO he has not said one single word (WHY NOT?). That tells us he has no intention of doing anything of the kind. So, the root of the problem is not going to be addressed or fixed. Throwing more money at it is simply "whipping a dead horse" Until something is done to stop the corruption, then it's not going to stop, why should it. These thieves know they can get away with it.

Throwing more money at these problems is like taking pain killers for pain. IT DOES NOT FIX ANYTHING, IT JUST TEMPORARILY RELIVES THE SYMPTOMS. We can't keep taking pain pills for ever, we will run out of pain pills/MONEY!

Until Obama steps up and grows some balls, and then goes after corruption, all our problems are only going to get worse.

In a nutshell, WE ARE SCREWED.... OVER & OUT!
