Yes earthlinger. The possibilities are infinite if you think about it. Sort of like the echo of the mind. Just think, if you've ever been mad enough at someone to have a "Flash" though of doing harm to them, you might bring on a preemptive strike, even if the next thought might be remorse or suddenly realizing you're wrong.

Too late the bullet is on its way.
But then if you were quick enough to realize that he was going to take a shot at you, maybe you could take the first shot, but if he read your mind soon enough, he could ............ well you get the idea.

I think a lot of folks pretty much can read the thoughts of others fairly easily. Along with that comes an empathy, or an understanding of the other folks' frame of reference.

The power of truth starts within. You have to be an open book in order to read one... -

If you do not read other folks minds to a certain extent, I bet you have been in a whole lot of traffic accidents...

And if you are a Christian, do you not recognize other Christians, pretty much immediately, before you even speak?

If everyone could read minds a whole entire page of new ethnic would have to be written on wether or not a person should be allowed to read one thoughts or memories. I think there would be a good chance it would seperate us even more as a society with having that last boundary of privacy taken away.

Hey, I am talking about reading, not controlling.
Reply
I am talking about understanding those you interact with. When you were a child did you not know what your mom or dad were thinking?
A lot of understanding comes from the "gut". You don't have time to consciously register all the signals, the dilation of the pupils, the body's reflexes and attitude/posture, the edges around the mouth, the crinkles at the sides of the eyes. If you are in a car, the way the on coming car's tires are turning. If you are on the phone, the myriad inflections in the other voice. A million clues at once, and you know. Not by consciously registering but it just comes out as knowing.
Of course, if you are a faker, you probably will not recognize half of it, you are too busy changing your masks... A faker can't even recognize another faker, they are the most gullible and susceptible to deception, because that is what they are, that is what they are drawn too.
Honesty truly is the best policy, that is one great way to recognize it when you see it...-

I believe you are on to something... sure at first there are alot of people who would be uncormfortable to have their dirty laundry open, and there would be resounding change in politics as those who have it would be able to engage in meaningful policy and change.
Reply
BUT, no more lies, deception and there would always be trust, assuming everyone had the same ability. Those who dont would HAVE to assume complete hosnety or deemed untrustworthy.
I would happen to believe that there would be less wars over time, tho at first it would be rather ugly. Uglier than usual, no war is pretty. -

What stinking taxes? I've incorporated myself and put my money offshore and my lawyers assure me with all the tax loopholes, the government owes me money and I'm due a bailout. And what's wrong with my polyester leisure suits and gold chains around my neck? The women swear it's how I look and not the money I pay them for their company. Are they lying?

Honestly speaking, I don´t really want to be able to read the minds of the others. Sometimes politeness on the surface is better than radical honesty. Of course, there are situations, when I´d like to know what someone else is feeling or thinking right now, but I don´t want to imagine that everybody could do the same with me! There is only one beloved person, whose thoughts I am (sometimes) able to read, but fortunately, just soulmates don´t know everything about each other!

When you have someone in your life that seems to read your mind, or you theirs, it feels like you have a special connection....that would be gone if everyone had the actual ability.
Reply
The good feeling of being honest would disappear, even tho being honest is something that is very easy, even tho it doesn't seem to come easy for some, they just haven't found their way yet, something is holding them back, being honest gives a sense of freedom...If everyone was able to read others minds, that specialness and that freedom would disappear too.
All privacy would vanish. All in all it would truly suck if we were all able to read each others minds.
Our free will and choices would be gone. -

Hey I dont know what they call this. But when my husband goes to the store I'll forget to tell him something that I need or just wanted, he always comes home with it, now it happens if he is at a department store, I just think, boy I wish I would of told him to get this or that, and he always comes back with it and thats the truth.

orndorffter,I call that, you are in tune with each other, he knows you and thinks about what you want, and he really cares about it too. That's something special between some people, I have the very same with my best friend and my Son. Sometimes it feels very freaky like 'wow! they read my mind, or I theirs' I don't know about anyone else but it makes me feel special, they've allowed me to know them very well and I them. I think tho, if everyone didn't have a choice in the matter, it wouldn't feel special between who you decide to have that with.

Reading minds could have many alternative future possibilities. One possibility could be:
Reply
The true thoughts of leaders could start wars or end wars. Therefore, I think the first thing we would learn to do is hide our thoughts and control our minds. Government programs would be created for the purposes of learning how to use this as a weapon, and old programs would be re-instituted to see if more mental powers can be developed. Morality and relationships would be redefined as the "Thought Police" would have almost the whole population in jail for some mental infraction. Whole new understandings on cultural, social, psychological, racial, sexual, and other issues would be examined. Books and the Internet may become obsolete as people would be able to mentally read any information or news from local thought repositories. And, these are only a few things that would change. Much like evolution, a change this drastic could be a violent exodus into a new age of human realization and social dynamics. -

it would be one thing if it could be used for good , aka police trying to catch the right person before they end up killing more people as those three did on on 9/11 another example are trying to get rid of the dangeroous cult leaders befor they do any harm to anyone. i am pretty much in agreement with everyone on here that if it had to be both ways thats not a good idea , it takes away ones right to have their own thoughts and thats never a good idea. now if it was only one way that might work to get some of these violent people off the street, as long as there is no abuse of power by the police force.

If you could read my mind love
Reply
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
bout a ghost from a wishin well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as Im a ghost that you cant see
If I could read your mind love
What a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind that drugstores sell
When you reach the part where the heartaches come
The hero would be me
But heroes often fail
And you wont read that book again
Because the endings just too hard to take...
I prefer not being able to read minds.
