Posted By david_nwpa 9 months, 2 weeks ago in Style(Honolulu, Hawaii) A majority in the state House has signed on as co-sponsors of a bill that would give same-sex couples in Hawaii all of the rights of marriage but without the name. But whether the bill will make it to a vote on the floor depends on just a couple of committee members who are expressing reservations.

Hawaii's new civil unions law might be an acceptable compromise for now; however, they will not replace marriage. The problem is that too many people will see this as the end all of progress in Hawaii. It is not the same as marriage as no federal rights are granted and it is still a separate institution.
