You want me to feel sorry for police officers, who far from "risking their lives every day" actually work two weeks on the street and two weeks behind a desk? Then they go on strike because they are opposed to drug testing, or some other minor issue which may or may not be a contractual obligation, or part of the job for more than 100 years?

When these people go on strike, they are striking AGAINST joeq public.
In a small town in Massachusetts, the average yearly pay for a police officer, including details, is more than $70,000 per year. I know that in big cities it is much more than $100,000.
Fire Fighters who can actually SLEEP ON THE JOB??? Of course, because they'll be too tired for their OTHER job after their shift.
Sure, teachers should make more (I am not a teacher - overqualified) not only because they have to actually have a master's degree, but because of the actual difference in pay between them and these other professions.-

You folks need to add someone you have forgotten to your list of "official"-type "givers" (SOME of whom --- as a couple of the comments in this thread point out, are actually QUITE WELL PAID!).

I refer to the good folks who OPERATE FOOD PANTRIES and SHELTERS --- some of whom devote themselves, and have long been doing so, selflessly. -
