Missing What Is In Plain View »
Posted By tehranchik 1 year ago in Political NewsQuin Hillyer complains about Obama’s first television interview, which Jake Tapper reports will be with Al-Arabiya. This is different, but it doesn’t mean very much one way or the other. At most it means that President Obama was serious when he made irenic remarks in his Inaugural directed to Muslims, but I suspect this has zero significance when it comes to policy. Like the appointment of George Mitchell, which represents an exception to the general rule of administration personnel on regional policy, giving an interview to Al-Arabiya is a conciliatory gesture designed to try to make up for the reality of U.S. policy. It is the sort of conciliatory move that Obama believes he can make because he is confident in his own “pro-Israel” bona fides, as well he might be considering the make-up of his Cabinet, staff and Middle East policy team, just as Obama’s general acceptance of national security ideology gives him the flexibility and the political cover to critique and oppose individual policy decisions.

Israel and Obama's Middle East Deceit
Obama's talk emphasized his commitment to a peaceful settlement. He left its contours vague, apart from one specific proposal: "the Arab peace initiative," Obama said, "contains constructive elements that could help advance these efforts. Now is the time for Arab states to act on the initiative's promise by supporting the Palestinian government under President Abbas and Prime Minister Fayyad, taking steps towards normalizing relations with Israel, and by standing up to extremism that threatens us all."
Obama is not directly falsifying the Arab League proposal, but the carefully framed deceit is instructive.
The Arab League peace proposal does indeed call for normalization of relations with Israel - in the context - repeat, in the context of a two-state settlement in terms of the longstanding international consensus, which the US and Israel have blocked for over 30 years, in international isolation, and still do. The core of the Arab League proposal, as Obama and his Mideast advisers know very well, is its call for a peaceful political settlement in these terms, which are well-known, and recognized to be the only basis for the peaceful settlement to which Obama professes to be committed. The omission of that crucial fact can hardly be accidental, and signals clearly that Obama envisions no departure from US rejectionism. His call for the Arab states to act on a corollary to their proposal, while the US ignores even the existence of its central content, which is the precondition for the corollary, surpasses cynicism.
The most significant acts to undermine a peaceful settlement are the daily US-backed actions in the occupied territories, all recognized to be criminal: taking over valuable land and resources and constructing what the leading architect of the plan, Ariel Sharon, called "Bantustans" for Palestinians - an unfair comparison because the Bantustans were far more viable than the fragments left to Palestinians under Sharon's conception, now being realized. But the US and Israel even continue to oppose a political settlement in words, most recently in December 2008, when the US and Israel (and a few Pacific islands) voted against a UN resolution supporting "the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination" (passed 173 to 5, US-Israel opposed, with evasive pretexts).

His "smartest" move was pointing out the question "What is Al-Qaida doing for YOU?" "Are they working on health care for the citizens? What are their long term goals" (which most can see are only hate, death and destruction.)
Reply
If America can show we are finally starting to give a damn about our own citizens then maybe we can show we care about the citizens of the Middle East, too.
One biggie we could accomplish is to fix the urgent problem of our killing through US air strikes one innocent civilian for every one Taliban in Afghanistan. If General Gates could correct this it would be a tremendous show of good faith to the people over there. -

What a crock. Why do liberals think that the radical Islam will ever consider anything but total destruction of Israel. In the interview he spoke of the Palestinian children needing to have a good life and almost as an afterthought mentioned that Israeli children need to feel safe. That last is the MAJOR sticking point. about 10 to 20% of all Muslims support the Terrorists. These people go to the Quran and Hadith to see what they should do. The results are in the terrorist organizations charters. Destruction of Israel. Kill the Jews. Sharia law where ever Islam ever conquered. Some are now talking about Spain. Islam was kicked out of there finally in 1492.

I see more deception than dialogue in Obama's actions so far. He is well and truly in the pocket of the zionist lobby.

Barack Obama: Americas First Jewish President
According to a nationally prominent Zionist spokesperson, former Congressman, Federal Judge, White House Counsel to President Bill Clinton and early backer of Obama, Abner Mikvner, “Barack Obama is the first Jewish President”. Mikvner’s affirmation reflects both Obama’s one-sided and longstanding commitment to the State of Israel and loyalty to the Zionist Power Configuration (ZPC) in the United States, as well as the long-term and successful effort of a network of financially and politically powerful Jewish Zionists to ‘embed’ Obama to their ‘Israel First’ political apparatus.
...The Chicago Jewish News, a nationally prominent Israel-First propaganda organ, published a lengthy article on ‘Obama and the Jews’ by Pauline Dubkin (October 24, 2008), which quotes approvingly a ‘long-time Jewish observer of the political scene’, who declared that, “Jews made him (Obama). Wherever you look there is a Jewish presence.” ...
This is not merely the usual arrogant self-aggrandizing boasts of a Zionist power broker, with which we are constantly bombarded on so many political topics, this reflects an important part of what Obama has become, especially in advancing his latter day political ambitions. The Zionist self-promoters (ZSP), ever ready to take credit for any success (no matter how notorious and immoral) – Wall Street speculators, Ivy League professors, Pentagon militarists, cultural gurus and even the key patrons of art forms like jazz and constantly rewrite history (or biography in the case of Obama) to maximize their self-importance in all aspects of American life. The ZSP conveniently fail to mention in their articles that Obama’s white Gentile grandmother gave him the intellectual nurturing and encouragement and diligently petitioned for scholarships for him to attend elite private schools, which formed the basis for his intellectual skills to write, speak and reason as an educated man. The ZSP exclude from their ‘revisionist and Judaized’ biography of Obama, the central importance of Reverend Jeremiah Wright who transformed Obama from an elite Ivy university graduate into an effective social activist. Obama was able to participate and get involved in community organizing in Chicago’s African-American neighborhoods because of Wright’s endorsement and broad credibility. If it were not for Rev. Wright, Obama would never have had a social base or organizational experience to engage in Chicago politics. It is only after Obama had gained these skills and popular appeal that the Zionist politicos noticed him and went to work on his ego and ambitions, recruiting him to their pro-Israel agenda and financing his political career.

Obama understands the use of symbolism in swaying public opinion. That's part of what's made him so popular.

Moves like inviting Warren to speak at the inaugural and giving his first television interview to al-Arabiya are calculated to win him support without actually affecting any policy he plans to implement.-

He will NEVER EVER change the views of the Muslims backing the terrorist groups. They are following religious views that trump anything that Obama or anybody will ever say. Keep in mind that these people willingly blow themselves up to further their cause.

...The Gaza debacle has made one thing perfectly clear: any peace process that seeks to marginalize, not integrate, Hamas is doomed to fail -- and with catastrophic consequences. That's why the position outlined by Obama's Secretary of State-designate is dysfunctional at birth, because it repeats the mistake of trying to marginalize Hamas....

...Obama and his people to avoid the pitfalls of the Clinton administration's approach to brokering Middle East peace. Clinton's basic guideline was that the pace and content of the peace process should be decided by Israel's leaders, and that nothing should ever be put on the negotiating table that had not first been approved by them. Restricting the peace process to proposals that fall within the comfort zone only of the Israeli government is the diplomatic equivalent of allowing investment banks to regulate themselves -- and we all know where that landed us.

Well, as Bush found out symbolism without backup in actions consistent with the pretty words eventually boomerangs. Indeed, arabs (and wise americans) watching Obama's "performance" will immediately compare it with his actions.

Change Gaza Can Believe In
Lest President Barack Obama's opportunistic silence when Israel began the Gaza offensive that killed more than 1,400 Palestinians (more than 400 of them children) be misinterpreted, his aides pointed reporters to comments made six months earlier in the Israeli town of Sderot. "If somebody was sending rockets into my house, where my two daughters sleep at night, I'm going to do everything in my power to stop that," Obama had said in reference to the missiles Hamas was firing from Gaza. "I would expect Israelis to do the same thing."
Residents of Gaza might have wondered what Obama would have done had he been unfortunate enough to be a resident of, say, Jabaliya refugee camp. What if, like the vast majority of Gazans, his grandfather had been driven from his home in what is now Israel, and barred by virtue of his ethnicity from ever returning? What if, like the majority of the residents of this refugee ghetto-by-the-sea, he had voted for Hamas, which had vowed to fight for his rights and was not corrupt like the Fatah strongmen with whom the Israelis and Americans liked to deal?
And what if, as a result of that vote, he had found himself under an economic siege, whose explicit purpose was to inflict deprivation in order to force him to reverse his democratic choice? What might a Gazan Obama have made of the statement, soon after that election, by Dov Weissglass, a top aide to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, that Israel's blockade would put him and his family "on [a] diet"?
"The Palestinians will get a lot thinner," Weissglass had chortled, "but [they] won't die."
Starting last June, the Sderot Obama would have noticed that, as a result of a truce brokered by Egypt, the rocket fire from Gaza had largely ceased. For the Jabaliya Obama, however, the "Weissglass Diet" remained in place. Even before Israel's recent offensive, the Red Cross had reported that almost half the children under two in Gaza were anemic due to their parents' inability to feed them properly.

It is interesting to see what many black Americans have to say about our first black president. So far Obama's actions vis-a-vis the mideast suggests they are right.

The Obama Spectacle
History, Hypocrisy, and Empire
...For the majority of Black, Brown, White, Red, and Yellow peoples, the “dream” to which the late Langston Hughes referred [in the poem A Dream Deferred] has not only been “deferred,” it has been obscenely and grotesquely disfigured and distorted into something almost beyond recognition. Barack Obama’s presidency is not a step forward nor is it a step towards the fulfillment of the struggles by Nat Turner, John Brown, Harriet Tubman, Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and so very many others. Rather, he is the slick pro-apartheid Zionist antithesis and perversion of the fulfillment of these struggles.
Barack Obama has already begun to repeatedly and shamelessly call upon the people of this nation to make “sacrifice[s],” as if the everyday people of this country have not already made enormous, heart rendering sacrifices. How about having Obama’s elite corporate backers in Lockheed, Goldman Saks, and the insurance and banking industries make some meaningful, ongoing, and painful sacrifices?! How about reversing the government’s criminal financial bail out of the big corporations [which government bail-out Obama enthusiastically supported], and passing those billions upon billions of dollars back directly to the everyday people of this nation - no strings attached?! How about immediately stopping all U.S. wars of aggression, and bringing our men and women in uniform home right NOW - no strings attached?! So many of these men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of so-called U.S. “national security,” which false “security” has meant their being the perpetual working-class cannon fodder for Halliburton and other avaricious corporate components of the U.S. “military / industrial complex.”
Barack Obama, though the first African-American “presidential” figurehead of the U.S. Empire, is actually the last best hope of continuing U.S. international hegemony under the fake cloak of democracy and justice at home and abroad. Therein is Obama’s appeal to the political and economic ruling elites. He is a conscious, willing, and potent tool of the power elite, and should be understood and dealt with as such. He is neither a progressive, nor a leftist or socialist. He is a cynical opportunist and a shrewd politician, who cloaks his double-speak in glitzy so-called “progressive” sounding rhetoric. He is arguably the most dangerous U.S. politician, to the actual economic and political well being of everyday people of all colors, thus far in this 21st Century....

Blacks in this country have come a long way. For a black man that you just quoted to sully the image of this man, because he's not "black enough" is akin to cutting off one's leg to spite one's foot." Who said all black people are on the same page in this country? Black is the color of one's skin and not an ideology. Just as he has an opinion on things so do a lot of other Americans. I liken this guy to a black Rush Limbaugh. What's funny is that neither of them could ever have a successful run at being President in this country. The Limbaugh's, the Black Panthers, the KKK, the Neoconservatives, and a host of others aren't what mainstream America is about. That being said, pulling out of the wars in the Middle East is a good idea. Yet it takes time. It's not going to be done tomorrow. We still have an adversary out there (OBL) which is still quite dangerous. The organization that he leads and the people that support him have to be dealt with. Even as Obama was becoming President messages were coming out of the mountains of Pakistan calling him a house boy and other derogatory names, It's about national pride, it's about taking the right steps and not being hasty. It's about common sense, it's about dialogue, it's about peace. Obama has reached out across the aisle more often than not. He doesn't care what color you are, or what nationality you are. He's trying to lull the savage beast within men's soul that lead them to settle issues with aggression. Is that the change that black people like the author expected? Is that the change that Progressives, Democrats, or Republicans expected? I don't know, but I do know this is one man's vision and the hope from people of all colors across this nation to go there with him.

Nothing Obama or Israel does will stop the roaring hatred of jews, secular humanists and christians by the leaders of Islam. Nothing that happens to the Palestinians, either good or bad, will influence this hatred. Those in power in most Islamic nations have only three areas of achievement-- oil, weapons and the Koran. Their societies were doomed to this backward state in the 12th century when monolithic Islam made investigation and reason a sin. That is the turning point in history when the greatest social order on earth began to lose ground to the most brutal of barbarians. Every wise Moslem should curse the generations of Immams and Calliphs who have taken prosperity from their grasp in the same way modern westerners should curse the horrors of early european christianity.

People who would burn schools and douse little girls with acid to stop them from learning are a sign of a very deep sickness of culture. Shooting innocent and good men to death for wearing their pants an inch or two longer than the taliban prefer is disgusting. This is what is spreading in Pakistan, where little girls are gang-raped after "religious leaders" condemn them because their fathers or brothers committed a crime such as loving a woman of a higher social group or sitting with a woman in a coffee shop that is not from their family. That's not religion. That's truly barbarism.
