I think what he's saying is that they really didn't expect big changes during this transition of the Presidency. I think that they see tha Obama is reaching out to the world community, evoking some changes in Russian policy. The problem for the Russian leaders is that they used the neoconservative policies to bolster their iron fist upon their populace. Now that the bogeyman is gone, how do they justify continuing the iron fist policies and how does that affect their popularity? Another point is that Russia has had a long nagging problem with racism against blacks. How does a country respond to a leader who is black and is powerful enough to make decisions that influence the goings on in Russia?

The U.S.-Russia USSR cold war was a propaganda sucess. Europe was divided and the lines were drawn at the Yalta conference, to insure the continued profitability of the military-industrial complex. Ike warned us about it in his farewell address.

We who were school in the 40s and early 50s were indocrinated to believe that a nuclear attack was inevitable, however some of us were contrarians and would not dive under the desk during the drills. The COLD war was sucessful beyond their wildest dreams, the militaty-industrial complex has bankrupt our nation.. -
