"Making our economy work means making sure it works for everyone," Obama said. "That there are no second-class citizens in our workplaces, and that it's not just unfair and illegal — but bad for business — to pay someone less because of their gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion or disability."

I feel sorry for any of the women in your family.

I have so many questions I'd ask you but I know you wouldn't answer them.

Because you would have to pay them a fair wage?

This seems fair but it worries me a little. I see the lengths we go to hire unqualified people based on race or sex and wonder where this will lead. It seems like just another opportunity for lawyers to get rich.
There must be some way of paying people fairly without all the leaches on the system getting rich off of it.

The trial lawyers are a BIG part of the democrat party.

Because to DaneL and those of his ilk, trial lawyers are bad and Democrats are bad so lawyers are Democrats. This type of reasoning, without cognitive thinking, runs rampant among the right.

Couldn't open the article without my computer bombing. I agree with equal pay for equal or comparable work. But what if one is paid more because their work is better? Is this factor taken also into account?

I can understand wanting to make equal pay easier to get for women, BUT why make it easier for more frivolous lawsuits to tie up the legal system even more. Why not just Make the company Pay Fines if it is proven to have gone against the fair pay act. If people sued for what they were owed thats 1 thing but people sue for millions of dollars for STUPID reasons. EXP: Stupid lady orders HOT coffee and is too stupid to put it in a holder in her car, it slips spills on her lap and she sues the place that sold her the HOT coffee for 5 MILLION dollars and WINS, why did she deserve 5 mil ???? and why did the courts allow her to sue for that amount ???? Doctos bills and the cleaning of the car i could understand but seriously 5 MILLION dollars because of her stupidity???? and Obama just made it easier for of these types of Lawsuits. is this how he plans to make the poor richer ?? by making lawsuits easier???? we will see

--Oh brother...Here come the horsesh*t neocon talking points right on schedule. LIke you people don't ever abuse the court system with "frivolous lawsuits" This is coming from the likes of people who are all for clogging up our courts for political gain (Obama's birth certificate, Coleman, Schiavo, ACORN, Larry Craig, lying criminal Bush appointees who disobey subpoenas, oil company execs who drag cases through courts for YEARS, and on and on...).

I am so tired of the anti conservative rants on this site. First, I think it creates more frivolous lawsuits. How do you disclose what people are making in private firms without violating confidentiality? When it comes to corruption, I'm guessing you're a dem. Don't you guys run Chicago, New York, LA and Milwaukee? Have you tried doing anything in those cities? I dare you to open a business. Any type. See how long you last without a special interest contribution. You'll find many "organizations" are run by the spouses, relatives or in-laws of the politicians you're working with. Those are not bribes. No of course not. There's no corruption in any of those cities. Oh, that's right they all have city leaders under investigation, indictment or serving prison terms already. And yes, they're all Dems.

I really hate to see American businesses relocate overseas. But even our company has been doing this and it's difficult to argue with the logic.
First of all it's a myth that companies move overseas because salaries are cheaper. That is one of the reasons but not the main reason. The main issue is all the related costs. When you fire someone in a protected class for failing to do their job it can cost 100 to 700 thousand dollars just to settle. Add in legal costs and it's expensive. These are all considered labor costs. Then factor in the problems generated by hiring unqualified workers and expecting everyone to act like they were the best candidate and you have another expense.
In short we are sending jobs overseas because of lawyers and the legal issues we have doing business in the US.
That does not mean I disagree with Obama's policy, I just hope it can be implemented in a way that helps people and does not simply make lawyers rich.

This is part of Obama's JOB CREATION program. You know, open up the road to more frivolous lawsuits. That way we will need many more lawyers, judges, etc.... and that means MORE JOBS, good one there Obama!!

I don't know. With less than 12 cents on the dollar going towards jobs, I think we're safe. Those will be all his new Politburo and thought police.
