New technology always has its pos's and neg's. A lot of google earth stuff is old, and some secure areas are blacked out. Of course, competing interests will always try to weaken their competitors, and try to prevent their own secrets from being exposed while exposing those of others. I have a bias for the U.S. and West having better intell, but I'm sure there are many other biases out there.

yes can not 'blame' google at all but there has to be some restrictions in place. for example should a stalker be able to track the comings and goings of your family car? or should civilians be able to see the movements of high security national sites?

I don't think Google Earth is real time. There aren't any live tracking features and the images are not very clear. It has very accurate coordinates and these could be used to target missiles but I doubt anyone who has access or knowledge that would allow them to use that sort of technology would be dependent on Google Earth for telemetry.

Every technology has a potential for abuse. I could make an explosive device with ingredients purchased from a hardware store. We can't danger proof our world. We can only guard against the most obvious and catastrophic threats. I would maintain security protocols at airports, damns, defense plants, military bases, chemical plants and ports, but something like Google Earth is too small a component in the terror equation to reap such attention.

It's the same old argument.

Let's blame gun and baseball bat manufacturers for violence.
Let's blame beer and liquor manufacturers for underage drinking and drunk driving.
Let's blame the auto manufacturers for speeding and getaway cars.
Let's just blame them all for carbon dioxide emissions. -

Frcmt. I believe that you said you could build an explosive device using ingredients purchased from a hardware store. I do believe that's basically the type bomb that blew up the Federal Building in Oklahoma.

Just think if the right people decided to start a protest to "protect" us you couldn't buy fertilizer or Diesel fuel any longer.
And placing tagements doesn't stop anyone from doing anything, they only identify where commercially they were made.
