A Catholic Priest

Less known is the " Holocaust by Bullets," in which over 2 million Jews were gunned down in towns and villages across Ukraine , Belarus and Russia. Their part in the Nazis' Final Solution has been under-researched, their bodies left unidentified in unmarked mass graves .

This is a well-written article; eloquent.
"The Holocaust has a land-scape in the mind's eye"

Dionys is right; priests do tend to get a bad rap*.

This one, DesBois, is doing what a priest should do:
taking confessions, speaking for those who have no voice, reminding the living that we stand on ground that is cursed
with innocent blood, and it is holy too, for the same reason.

    Nutz.
    Words don't express it easily.
    Read the article.

    * The article made me think about Dietrich Bonhoeffer,
a german pastor executed for trying to kill Hitler.
He got left out of the recent Valkyrie movie.

I remember reading about this many years ago. The Nazi generals found that it was affecting the troops that were assigned to do it and was too slow to accomplish the task. It also was too costly to use at least one bullet for each person. For a while it was turned over to the SS. The gas chambers were the method to sanitize it and do it faster.

American media is ALWAYS hevily censored in regards to war.

We should get to see the REALITY of blown apart people if we are going to engage in that activity.

My dad was drafted into WWII at age 18. Was at the Bulge, saw a lot of combat. He also was part of the liberation of Dachau concentration camp.
For him, I think the things he saw there were more disturbing than being in combat.

I doubt that most Americans know about it, but one of the largest Nazi atrocities was committed in Ukraine, near Babi Yar.

My grandmother had a two-volume set called "The Black Book" detailing Nazi atrocities against general population of Belarus and Ukraine. When I was a teen I tried to read the first volume; I didn't make it past the first few chapters.

What I've read horrified me to the bottom of my being and I've seen documentaries on Holocaust before that. I doubt that one could grow up in Soviet Union and not see one. I can't say that it's something specific that I read in them that shook me so much, but the merciless precision with which the documents described how human beings exterminated other human beings without so much as a token display of emotion terrified me more then anything I can think of since then.

Apparently, the book has a wikipedia page,

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Book_(World_War...

PSA: How to beat the spam filter

If you'd like to post a link and you are getting blocked by the filter then submit your comment without it and then edit it to include the link. It works even if your comment has multiple links.

I've posted the message to different users and on different boards, but for some reason it doesn't seem to percolate through Propeller community. Forward it along to others who have the same problem.

Utterly ironic that a Catholic priest goes about documenting the atrocities of the Holocaust while Bishop Richard Williamson (recently re-instated to the Church by the Pope) goes about denying the Holocaust.

How true! It is so important to be reminded about this. Stereotypes are false and produce prejudices that are unfair and hurtful. Stereotypes of atheists, Catholics Priests, or Jews are equally damaging. There were many heroes from the church during Hitler's reign that were instrumental in protecting and saving Jews at the risk of their own lives. I speak from personal experience, as the Grandson of such a survivor.

And sadly, there were also those who were complicit and supportive of the Third Reich. As there are those today supporting the return of x-communicated Williamson, a known Jew hater, to the Catholic Church.

Especially the catholic church is asked to remember the Holocaust at the moment! I can´t understand Pope Benedict´s behaviour towards Mr. Williamson and the Pius Brothers. How can a German pope rehabilitate someone who denies this unimaginable crime? Is he too much a theologian and not enough a politician? So as a "counterpart", I am glad that there a groups and individuals in the catholic church fighting against tendencies of marginalization and ignorance!
