The Grand Obstructionist Party »
Posted By deadlyhaiku 10 months, 3 weeks ago in Political NewsIt should now be totally clear to anyone what "G.O.P." stands for: Grand Obstructionist Party. Rush Limbaugh is now their spokesperson and leader by default as we see Republicans in the house vote unanimously against Obama's stimulus bill and threaten to filibuster in the Senate, with John Kyl (A-s-s-hat, AZ) demanding that the bill be rewritten from scratch. Republicans have decided to embrace the politics of Bush: it's their way or the highway, only this time, it will be their taking the highway. They were voted out for their collective failure and will continue to face further rejection as well they should.

The "nonsense": assuming I know what you are referring to, I'm wondering if there is a strategy behind that, because when Republicans make a stink about certain issues, like Family Planning for instance, people will read about that and then see a profound difference between the parties: one party cares about people's needs and their awareness of the future, and the other party cares far more about their own rigid ideology, the rigid ideology which thinks that government should not help anyone making less than 400k a year, the same rigid ideology that believes that 'poor people are stupid, so why ever help them', the rigid right wing ideology that believes that all someone has to do is 'pull up their boot straps', as if everything were that easy, as if anyone really becomes successful and/or self sufficient all by themselves.

The definitions of Democrat and Republican are being further defined with all the political wrangling as of late, I think that the result will be further rejection of the GOP and further rejection of right-leaning Democrats (DINO's). Republicans will lose more house seats and even more Senate seats in the next cycle. They have 19 Senate seats up for re-election next time around. Many are retiring, others have become unsafe, the more they lean right, the more rejection they face. Americans have thoroughly rejected the GOP in the last 2 elections.
All things political being in a vacuum, we must work from within the Democratic party to achieve any real progress, there is no third way. I think Obama becoming President gives us a huge step in the right direction, in just a week and a half, he's doing great, of course he doesn't do everything I want when I want, but he has done a lot of good things all ready that no Republican would or could ever do. It's a great start in my opinion. It makes me feel good, food tastes better, the sky looks more blue and I enjoy listening to music again. Don't you? -

That comment is about as stupid as Nancy Pelosi looked trying to defend the contraceptive part of the package. Holy cow I cannot believe the people of this country actually voted these morons into office.
Please tell me how 300 million dollars for contraceptives is going to help our economy? Thankfully Obama came to his senses on that one. There is still a lot of garbage in the package that I don't care to have our kids paying for. -

deadlyhaikuy; Of course there are ideological differences. But this stimulus package is for saving our economy, not railroading some ideology through. We can't afford this now. Every last dime needs to create jobs, needs to save business, needs to get a handle on this mess.

Such a garbage story. It leave out a simple fact that the Democrats REFUSED to let the Republicans have anything to do with this massive spending bill that is NOT A STIMULUS PACKAGE. Only 15% will be spent this year according to the CBO.

Who won this election anyway? When did the GOP ever let the Dems write a bill in the last 8 years. They had time to put their 2 cents in but most just yelled. Yelling is a Republican thing. It is done by their mouthpieces on TV and radio. Stop yelling and start talking. You want more input, show some humility. You got your socks beat off this last election. Your acting like Bush is still in power. Compromise is the only way to make sure your voice is heard in this Congress. Get used to talking to one another. Hard to do for you yes...you are just not used to it. But you will be by 2012.

When this country started, the founding forefathers had profound differences taken to bitter extremes in publication after publication. Life was hard and took a toll on both men and women as they carved a living out of the American wilderness. But to a man and woman, all agreed: under no circumstances was it the role of government to hand out money to individuals for any reason--PERIOD.

I am proud to be a Republican "obstructionist." I believe all rational people should try to obstruct a train full of people from plunging over a cliff, figuratively speaking. That is exactly the position our founding forefathers would want us to have.
We are only now discovering why those wise men from our past did not want us to begin down this road. And while we argue about the efficacy of the road, the simple fact is the road must be closed and abandoned as soon as possible.-

Where do you get your history from? The real battle at the beginning was between the Federalists and Republicans (do not relate them to the current party). The Federalists wanted aristocratic rule and were led by the likes of Washington and Hamilton. The Republicans of Jefferson believed in a democracy. Each man (not women or blacks) should have a say. You would take the Federalists side today. They are the wise men you are defending. And they pretty much lost the battle.

At least they were correct on the slavery issue which Jefferson never relented on. A definite weakness of this amazing man. He was afterall a man of his times. But without him we would have essentially taken the British political model of the time.
"I believe all rational people should try to obstruct a train full of people from plunging over a cliff"
Excuse me, Georgia. but you did nothing to obstruct the Bush Administration and they left us on the broken tracks hanging over a cliff! You lack of reality allows you to defend the likes of Limbaugh and Palin. Neither of whom has offered any real solutions. Rush wants to preserve his tax breaks, how surprising! As everything in his world revolves around his bloated ego. And Palin has no plan at all. Just insinuations and hatred. You can't run a country on those attributes (sic).
Of course you have forgotten that 8 years ago your party inherited a surplus. You blew that and far, far more. But stick to the party line and blame the Democrats who had no veto authority the entire time. Another case of pure delusion.
You are just afraid of change and we know why you don't trust Obama. But that's another story for another board. -

Can you imagine Limbaugh running for even dogcatcher? First of all he isn't qualified for even that job but once the vetting began he would fall apart like a house of straw. To say the man has twisted the truth over the years would be to give him tremendous benefit of the doubt. Can you imagine him explaining why he had Viagra with him for an all-male vacation? Or attempting to truthfully explain his dealings with Oxycontin (fittingly often called Hillbilly Heroin)? He never has come close. And then explain his continual sucking up to Cheney, the most despicable politician ever to hold higher office in America. He wouldn't last five minutes and he knows this.
Reply
But the ultimate delusion is that they offer support to these people of quite dubious intelligence. A man who holds no real intellectual pedigree ( not even a college degree!). Of course he uses that as a selling point just as Palin tried to sell simplistic thought on the campaign trail. That from someone who failed to take classes on government during her multiple forays into higher education.
I saw a Jindal/Palin bumpersticker on a BMW 740i yesterday. Surely Bobby Jindal is not such a fool. If he wants to be taken seriously outside of the party faithful he better look elsewhere. -

Rush's suggested bipartisan plan:
Reply
Round off the bailout to 1 trillion
Obama got 54% of the vote. Dems get 540 Billion to spend on whatever they want.
Repubs got 46% of the vote. They get 460 Billion to be used for tax cuts, primarily corporate tax rates and capital gains rates.
It would receive unanimous votes in both house of Congress and would allow us to finally see which approach produces good new jobs.
That would be real bipartisonship.-

I don't remember Republicans proposing to split spending according to proportional representation over the last eight years. Do you?
Reply
And while you're at it, can you please explain how corporate tax cuts and cuts in capital gains taxes and inheritance taxes have helped the economy over the past eight years?
Rush is a disingenuous blowhard who will take any position when it suits his purposes. He's against spending, but wishes to increase it for his "bipartisan plan." He continues to rail against drug abusers when he himself is a convicted felon who was busted on drug charges. Anyone who believes his ideas are sincere needs to get serious. -

The reason that President Obama and the democrats want the Republicans on board is because when the you know what hits the fan because this bill as is is a disaster they want to be able to spread the blame around.Of course they can pass it without the GOP
Reply
but they want to "act" like they are working together.I hope that the Republicans stand up to the President and do not support this bill.-

What if it works? What if the bill does what is susposed to do. What if the economy slowly turns in the other direction. Then what, do the GOP get the blame? Or they like KIt Bond of Missouri who takes credit for the stimulus for his state . He voted against it however.
Reply
We had Bush economics for 8 years where did that take us? I pray it works. It may not but we must try something .who knows your job my be on the chopping block next. If the GOP does not want to "act like their working together" so be it. God only know the future but we know that repeating the GOP mantra of just tax cuts does not work either.
