IS THIS OBAMA'S KATRINA? »

Posted By pc25 9 months, 1 week ago in News

I guess what with Kentucky being a red state the heartless Barack Obama and FEMA can't be bothered helping the suffering Americans trying to cope with a massive ice storm that has left them powerless.

In some parts of rural Kentucky, they're getting water the old-fashioned way — with pails from a creek. There's not room for one more sleeping bag on the shelter floor. The creative are flushing their toilets with melted snow.

At least 42 people have died, including 11 in Kentucky, and conditions are worsening ?

Life after ice storm dire, getting worse in spots

    FTA

Local officials were growing angry with what they said was a lack of help from the state and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In Grayson County, about 80 miles southwest of Louisville, Emergency Management Director Randell Smith said the 25 National Guardsmen who have responded have no chain saws to clear fallen trees.

The headline of this story admits that Katrina was a disaster for Bush. Very good. I think conservatives are finally admittting that fact. They can no longer in retrospect blame it on the governor and the mayor as they for a long time have done.

Funny, pc...trying to compare something like Katrina (with several days notice that it was coming) to the ice storm in Kentucky, which no one knew the severity of until it hit.

I'm not questioning the hardships and grief the people in Kentucky have experienced, but trying to compare the two is ridiculous.

FEMA appears to an arm of the government that just doesnt work well under pressure. It worked terribly under Bush, and doesn't seem to be off to a great start 2 weeks after Obama has stepped in. I do think Obama has to look long and hard look at FEMA, and either re-structure it or start all over with it.

But leave it to pc's partially coherent explanation, that Obama's enjoying the 80° temperature in the White House...is that laughable or what?

Keep trying, pc...maybe within the next 8 years you'll find some story on hotair or jammies, or some other credible site that's worth posting...LOL...

really only because the MSM is in love with him.......he hasn't even toured the disaster area, he sits on his rear end in his 80 degree plus White House Office throwing bi partisan super bowl parties while wining and dining congressional and senatorial leaders on $140.00 lb beef trying to garner support for his stimulus package while a portion of the country is without heat, electricity and water due to an ice storn that has already KILLED over 40 people. Where is the MS outroage over the slow response of the White House and FEMA.......

          FTA:
Is Obama even aware what's going on in Kentucky? I know he's very busy between trashing Wall Street and Rush Limbaugh, but could he at least acknowledge these poor folks and get them some help?

Time has a good article today on the extent of the disaster in Kentucky

Kentucky's Ice Storm: Worse Now That It's Over

Life has come to a standstill in Kentucky, and it's difficult to imagine just who in the Bluegrass State had the more miserable Super Bowl weekend.

For utility crews who worked overtime through the weekend — battling subzero conditions Friday and Saturday — the challenge was not just repairing a few downed lines, but instead rebuilding a ravaged utility infrastructure from the ground up.

As for state officials, the weekend involved a rapid reassessment of just how dire the situation had become. Speaking out the day after some local municipalities decried a lack of federal or state emergency relief, Gov. Steve Beshear described the fallout from last week's ice storm as the state's largest-ever natural disaster. He then activated every last member of Kentucky's National Guard, dispatching all 4,600 Guardsman to assist with the statewide crisis

          http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,187...

The extent of the problem is staggering

When are people going to learn that FEMA is a dysfunctional agency

Bad enough that Obama hasn't said one word but where in the world is Janet Napolitano? Although there is talk that FEMA will become an independent agency again, it is still part of Homeland Security

Looks like Napolitano is going the same route she did with illegal immigration and the Mexican drug cartels in AZ - ignore them and not deal with the problem

Interesting that a state that has the Kentucky Derby as its main attraction with its far reaching international connections, especially in Arab and Japanese money, would be over looked by the current Fed administration.
I guess Ky and a paralyzing ice storm isn't as 'cool' as New Orleans and Katrina.

I learned that first hand after Ike rolled into the gulf coast in September. Also during Katrina.

Though as with Bush it's not Obama's personal fault, the silence of the left is deafening after what they've put Bush through after Katrina.

Too bad the left on this site won't stand with us and voice their outrage as loudly as they did Bush.

No, but then neither were those other little towns along the gulf coast that were swept out to sea.....what were their names? Who cares, you never hear 'em mentioned even when they have done follow-ups on Katrina.....it only hit NO, right?

Having been in an ice storm recently, the one that hit Kentucky after hitting here, and an even more severe one several years ago that left people without power for weeks, I can tell you never being able to get warm for days on end is no fun. Neither is having no water. Whatever did we do before electricity?

              "he hasn't done anything "
              except little tiny things like:
              Ordered the closing of Guantanamo
Canceled executive secrecy laws on white house documentation.
Pushed his stimulous package through the house
              Gave up smoking
              Bombed Al-qaeda in Pakistan
              Appointed his cabinet
              Froze white house salaries
              Signed the equal-pay act
              Gave up smoking again
Gave an interview on Arab television
Nominated a 3rd Republican to executive position, to create a bipartisan base (crazy dreamer).

you know i wasnt going to respond but, i just cant help myself being from kentucky. what do you think people did before there was electricity or running water or let alone inside bathrooms. the people of kentucky are resourceful, and as far as people getting water from creeks if youre high enough on the mountain it is the best water there is, just be sure you look up the hill and make sure no possums or other dead animals arent in it. i dont think the "red state"applies here, have you ever been to kentucky and looked up some of the hollers and hills here. some of the electric lines were installed by having mules pull the lines up a mountain side. i guess they may use four wheelers now. when it comes to working on electricity, after you get to it, seems you wouldnt want to be in a hurry. people in this country have endured more times without running water and electricity than they have had it. maybe not this generation, but many before us. in situations like this , we cannot have it our way like burger king, we need to depend on each other and become communities again and lay aside our self centered lives aside and help another human being. thanks for allowing me to share an opinion and get over it.

I don't see how this disaster story can be ignored, but I'm getting the impression from here and the Mainstream Media, that they are attempting to ignore it.

If Bush were President right now, they would be blaming him.

By the way, I am hearing that this is the worst disaster on record for the United States. Where's the coverage?

I am appauled with the current actions of non-relief for the people of Kentucky. Why is it not reported that people are dying and freezing?? Where is the anointed one? He was elected as our first black president so why is he not helping the first half of his blood line? What can we the honest and caring people do to MAKE OUR GOVERNMENT RESPOND TO KENTUCKY'S NEEDS.

I recall seeing a report that indicates that President Obama had signed an Emergency Declaration the day Governor Beshear sent it to him. He opened up the entire state of Kentucky to Federal disaster relief. FEMA has people on the ground helping alongside the National Guard which has been called upon to check on people from house to house.

One should note, and this is key, Kentucky's storm is still fresh on the ground. Katrina's mess is still a problem, a full 3 years after it hit. There is no comparison; there are no formaldehyde trailers waiting for the people of Kentucky.

if you are going to apply that standard for performance then you must do the same concerning Katrina. The incompetence of Gov Blanco and Mayor Nagin far exceeds whatever short comings the Governor of Kentucky exhibited. But now we have a problem. This is where the dilemma for the liberal mindset lays. If we exonerate Obama for the shortcomings of the Governor of Kentucky, then we must exonerate Bush for the same shortcomings of Governor Blanco and Mayor Nagin.

Death toll from Katrina likely higher than 1,300
Displaced people---estimated at over a million!

Kentucky disaster pales in comparison. What motive would someone have to compare the two? Well, if you were a Bush supporter the motive is quite clear. That's why we must never, ever, never, ever, let jammiewearing fools like that run this country again.

It's time for jovial's wayback machine to get fired up. Here's what conservatives on propeller had to say about the Katrina disaster:
Libsr funny said, "When are you idiots going to admit the New Orleans and Louisiana governments have far more blame than Bush ever deserved? Never, obviously.

Get over your hatred of Bush and realize your problems are local and not national in New Orleans. And quit friggin whining for more federal funding. If you really want to protect your home, try living ABOVE sea level and away from the coast."

Locky12 had this to say,"Look at the people affected by Hurricane Katrina.
                    They are mostly SAVAGES.
That's right! I said it. Call me all the names you want, they are SAVAGES.

They lived their entire lives with their hands out-- gimmie, gimmie, gimmie!
We're owed this and we're owed that!

And when the big one hit-- their inept mayor left a parking lot of school buses to rust,
thier loser governor cried on television.

All the while the residents looted, raped and murdered and pillaged New Orleans.
                    And that's Bush's fault, right?

In the history of this country, Katrina is NOT the worst natural disaster to ever hit and is NOT the worst response by the government but yet the people affected were more than willing to dig out of it on their own.

If such a disaster hit New York City, do you think Mayor Rudolph Giuliani would have begged for Federal help?? Only after exhausting every possible avenue (unlike Mayor Ray Niggin).

If anything, Katrina was a wakeup call to how dangerous a welfare state can be."
