I'm sick of our Politicians who can't pay their taxes. We all have to pay ours. If I owed that much the IRS would be carting off everything I own.

I'm an Obama supporter. I would like to see him pick his people more carefully. Things like this just give the radio blowhards fuel for their fire.-

I am sure he is just as miffed as the rest of us about this! He needs and deserves to be able to give his full attention to the increasingly critical matter of the economy, and has placed his confidence in his vetting team to do a thorough job, which they obviously have NOT done! I am sure hs is disappointed and perturbed to have to deal with the fallout from this, and he should be. I appreciate that he has not made excuses and has assumed responsibility, nevertheless. That speaks to his character and his caliber. I hope that his team gets their act together and does a better job on future nominees so that this kind of embarassing distraction does not repeat. The major problem is that finding a squeaky clean politcian is like looking for a needle in a haystack these days. If it cannot be done, then he may just have to say, we've picked the best we could find out of what is available and leave it at that. And we need to stop adding to the challenge by jumping on the bandwagon of criticism, some of which is hypocritical anyhow, and let the man get on with the business of trying to pull our collective arses out of the fire!

Wesley Snipes was sentenced to three years imprisonment last night for his “brazen defiance” of the US taxman.

I'm glad too hear him admit a mistake, that is refreshing approach in the typical political arena. What I find infuriating is how many of these politicians are not paying THEIR taxes. Please correct me if I am wrong but I don't believe that any of these people paid any penalty or interest on their tax bill. Now this isn't Obama's fault, hell I think its great let him keep nominating people and I think we will have found a way to pay for this bailout bill.

However you still have the Tim Geithner problem. I applaud what Obama is trying to do, but we can't give him credit if he doesn't follow through with his words... i.e no lobbyist working in my administration, then a week later waiving that standard.-

The saying, "There is an esception to every rule" came about for a reason - there are! In my opinion, there are those times when one has to way the benefits against the liabilities and act accordingly. Obama has great individual judgment, and his first priority should be putting the best people in the right positions to do the most good for all of us. That does not mean that he either condones or excuses wrong doing, but look at it this way, if you had a mass murderer who was also the best bomb disassembler you could ever find, and there is a nuclear bomb attached to a detonater with the clock ticking...would you not use him to difuse it regardless? That's what leadership is all about - making the tough calls and knowing you may have to take the heat for it. Regardless of his faults, Geitner is the best man for the job, and both dems and repugs know it. We don't have to approve of the man, but we need to let him do his job if it's going to help us out of this hell of a mess.

Unfortunately, our tax system is a hypocrisy. It encourages the taxpayers to attempt to find ways not to pay taxes. This tends to lead into unknown gray areas at best and as we've witnesses in the past few days, downright black areas.

I wonder how easy it will be to find individuals that can bear up to that type of scrutiny (obeying the law). The traditional pool of individuals looked at for these types of positions seem to live in the creative tax evasion world.
Maybe it is time for government to look to a different pool of individuals to fill these positions. That might actually bring a bit more common sense to the table. -

My gut tells me there are more surprises coming about Daschle's tax situation.

Seems to be a lot of confusion in the air around Washington DC at the moment.
His biggest problems are Pelosi and Reed. Both are too ingrained in partisonship to help with solutions.
They're both ineffective in their roles. -
