    I don't think the real issue is the line between gasoline and ethanol, but gasoline additives like MBTE which are a real problem, especially concerning groundwater pollution.

    Ethanol is being produced to replace MBTE as a fuel additive, and in this case it's much safer and economical. There is no argument in this case. I think anyone would rather have ethanol polluting their groundwater than MBTE.
