Fish don't make omega-3 fatty acids, but rather get them from things they eat. Of course, being upper in the food chain also gives fish the wonderful quality of accumulating mercury, PCBs, and other poisons. No wonder the FDA recommends not eating much fish. Let alone that overfishing and the depletion of stocks make the use of fish oils environmentally, as well as morally questionable. Besides, fish oil isn't entirely digestable, or very tasty.

Of course, hemp/cannabis seed oil has up to 16% omega 3's, depending on variety, that are poison free, and ecologically sound.

Some good fresh hemp seed oil makes a caesar salad truly sublime, besides giving a nutritionally perfect ratio of omega fatty acids.

When taking fish oil supplements you have to be very careful to get the kind that contains no mercury. Not all companies will put the amount of mercury on the label. May have to go to their website; and yes just because the label says organic doesn't mean it is. You also have to look at who, where and how manufactured it.

Been taking so much fish oil, I'm starting to grow gills. Thanks for the heads up on the mercury content. I'll start checking that out.
