Racism and Real Estate »
Posted By altnrg 9 months ago in NewsThink “racism”. Do your thoughts go to Klansmen waving burning crosses around or signs that state baldly “NO BLACKS NO DOGS NO IRISH”? It would be easy to target discrimination if it was so obvious. However, when it comes to racial steering and the differences in treatment of people of different races or cultures, things get murky.

This works both ways. Some communities prefer to keep their communities made up of similiar people. It isn't just about skin color , but socioeconmics, religion and lifestyles too. We fail to overlook the real issues when we focus just on skin color.

No, when think 'rasism,' I don't think of Klansmen. I think of Miss Black America, Miss Black USA, Black Chamber of Commerce, United Black College Fund, Black Entertainment Television, Black Mayors Caucus, Black History Month, Affirmative Action, AOL Black Voices, Rainbow Push Coalition, National Urban League, National Association of Black Accountants, National Association of Black Hotel Owners, National Black MBA Association, Black Culinarians Alliance, Blacks in Government, Black Wall Street Merchants Association, National Black Child Development Institute, ACORN, Black Graduate Students Association, National Association for Black Journalists, Organization of Black Designers, Union of Black Episcapalians ....

Try a little experiment. Read the list outloud, substituting "white" for "black". Sound racist?-

Yes of course it is racism, but it is racism that favors blacks so it is OK. BTW you missed the Congressional Black Caucus, the most racist organization in this country. I am sure now that I will be called a racist for pointing this out.

This article is comparing an innocent joke (I'll come back to that) to an illegal act. If a person chooses not to sell or rent a piece of real estate based on a person's race that is the legal definition of discrimination and is a punishable offense like it or not. Clifford referred an innocent joke to "filthy slime of racism" I personally am a minority and like it or not stereotypes exist about me, that doesn't make them true. I am Jewish but I also have trouble controlling my spending habits and often buy things for other people when not necessary. When I was in high school I excelled more in math class than auto shop. I am not offended when somebody tells the joke Why did the Jews wander in the desert for 40 years? Because Moses dropped a nickel. However I am offended when somebody make the joke whats the different between a Jew and a Pizza? Pizza don't burn in the oven. That is "filthy slime of racism". As Americans we need to get over the bug of political correctness and identify when a joke is making light of a harmless stereotype and "filthy slime of racism"

I am white and when I tried to move into a majority Jewish community I was redirected elsewhere. When I took my family to a vaction spot that was primarily gay and lesbian I was told I was on the wrong side of town and redirected to the hetero side. When I worked in an agency that employeed mostly blacks I was questioned by the blacks as to why i was there. I could certainly argue i was discriminated against, but my approach was understanding why these people wanted to protect their areas and property. I respected them for wanting to keep things the way they wanted. Discrimination is committed by all people and for different reasons .

The reason you have those associations is due to the fact that Blacks had no protection in any form. There was a time when we weren't considered human enough to eat at your "White resteraunts" or use your "White restrooms" etc. Do I believe it's time that we start focusing on the issues instead of color...yes. Do I believe that as long as Americans keep classifying themselves by race we'll always be divided....yes. But lets not forget the history of this country and how they treated (and still do in some cases) minorities. So instead of focusing on the past lets start focusing on what we can do so we can prevent the past...they say history repeats itself but I am pretty sure no one wants their child to grow up in the America of old. When I went to school there were all kinds of kids in my class from Pre K all the way to High School. So we can't even relate to what our parents and grandparents even had to deal with. People tend to look at history from a timeline and physical standpoint but they never look at it from a emotional or social standpoint. There's good people and there's bad people and we're going to be the first generation to prove that. Screw what color you are cause if you're a crappy person I don't have to deal with you.....I love this country!!!!!
