PORKULUS BILL REVEALED: conference notes »
Posted By pc25 9 months, 3 weeks ago in NewsMichelle has the link to the notes from the Porkulus conference, and well … it’s about as bad as you’d imagine. I’m picking through the tables derived from the 1500-page bill that no one in Congress will read before casting their votes for the largest project bill in American history. To no one’s great surprise, the spending items expose Porkulus for exactly what it is — an omnibus spending bill that could have easily gone through the normal budgeting process.

This was a huge very confusing bill, full of pork, IMO to hide the real agenda of the White House and the Democrats.

Such as one new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and “guide” your doctor’s decisions (442, 446). These provisions in the stimulus bill are virtually identical to what Daschle prescribed in his 2008 book, “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis.” According to Daschle, doctors have to give up autonomy and “learn to operate less like solo practitioners.” …
So the little rat Daschle may not have gotten the appointment but you can bet your lack of health care he will influence this new National Coordinator of Health Information Technology.

Regarding the stimulus bill - 48 Hour Review Period After Conference
Reply
From yesterday's Congressional Record, Page H1096:
Mr. LEWIS of California moves to instruct the managers on the part of the House that they shall not record their approval of the final conference agreement (as such term is used in clause 12(a)(4) of rule XXII of the Rules of the House of Representatives) unless the text of such agreement has been available to the managers in an electronic, searchable, and downloadable form for at least 48 hours prior to the time described in such clause.
This instruction passed unanimously in a recorded vote.
I guess Madame Pelosi has decided to ignore the vote of the House and push this through without anyone getting a chance to read it -

PATHETIC COMMENTS AND SHAMEFUL PARTISAN POLITICS ON YOUR PART. WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO DO IS NOT ONLY UNDERMINING THE PRESIDENT, IT'S UNDERMINING THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. I HOPE EVERY REPUBLICAN LEFT IN CONGRESS IS VOTED OUT WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY PRESENTS ITSELF. YOU DESERVE IT.

No it could be said your trying to undermine my children country. We are going to put into debt 1 trillions dollars on top of what we have already spent. Believe me when I tell you that this is not the end of the spending. This does not even give you pause! Why does this have to be passed today when a bulk of the spending won't even occur this year! I'm all for spending but in a series of events and one that will bring real jobs.. not just summer jobs (ie construction). I would love to see the elimination of capital gains taxes on Alternative energy manufacturing and development. I would like see a plan that is focused and one that will have a way that we can track its progress and measure its results. If at the end of this, we can say we are energy independent, then I will say it was worth it. We have an opportunity, to remake and re brand "made in the USA" not just a country that consumes things, but one that builds them as well.

When the Democrats make promises then break them, your silence is very telling
Are you EVER going to hold a Democrat responsible??
“Every member of Congress -- Republicans and Democrats -- voted to post this bill on the internet for 48 hours, 48 hours ago"
CNN - 58 minutes ago
By Jeanne Sahadi, CNNMoney.com senior writer NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- There's still no official legislative text yet
58 minutes ago and still no text of the bill posted!
itbusiness.ca:
Newly elected U.S. President Barack Obama has repeatedly promised to post legislation to the Web before he signs off on it. But he may have failed to do that with the first item passed into law.
Let me know WHEN you are willing to condemn Democrats for breaking promises. Maybe then I can take you seriously
You might want to bookmark this site and follow just how many of Obama's campaign promises he keeps

No. 32: Create a tax credit of $500 for workers
The Pelosi/Reid pork bill couldn't even do that much. They cut it to $400/worker and $800/couple -

You did that for the last 8 years and most of it was done while were at war. During Roosevelt's time, you would have been charged, tried and convicted of treason. But President Bush didn't go after you because you were hiding behind the first amendment. Get used to that from us. We're using your play book. When we disagree with you, we will make it very clear. For those of our party crossing lines and trying to play along, we will remember.
We have a real problem with this package. Besides it being way to big for the problems we face today. When over 88% of the proposed bill going for pork it's not a stimulus it's pork. This will change our nation for the worse.
Why is it for the last 40 years we've spent billions trying to raise of the under achievers? All we've managed to do is lower our own standards of what success actually is. This stimulus is an excellent example. -

D'oh! Caterpillar CEO Contradicts President on Whether Stimulus Will Allow Him to Re-Hire Laid Off Workers
President Obama today repeated the claim we asked about yesterday at the press briefing that Jim Owens, the CEO of Caterpillar, Inc., "said that if Congress passes our plan, this company will be able to rehire some of the folks who were just laid off."
Caterpillar announced 22,000 layoffs last month.
But after the president left the event, Owens said the exact opposite.
Asked if the stimulus package would be able to stop the 22,000 layoffs or not, Owens said, "I think realistically no. The truth is we're going to have more layoffs before we start hiring again"
"It is going to take some time before that stimulus bill" means re-hiring, he said.

I'm puzzled and scratching my head over what plans Obama has to put the employees of the RV factory in Indiana back to work. Well, I guess he could have the government buy RV's and park them on the streets of major cities for homeless people to use. The price tag for these RV's start at 79K and go up to hundreds of thousands of dollars, but of course, the government would pay much more that the rest of us would, they always do.

INCREDIBLE that a bill like this should even 'grace' Mr. Obama's desk. He should send it back with a message that this bill is to 'jump start' the economy. Congress has really missed the mark with this one and if Obama signs it....... well, his true 'colors' will then be visible to all. -

No one read the whole bill but they are sure the important points will be out in a Cliff Notes edition soon and for the really hot topics of the bill, word of mouth works better.

Republicans love grandstanding when they know the bill will pass, anyway. If there were any danger that a stimulus bill might not pass, you would not see such grandiose opposition to it! They WANT it to pass, but they also want to on record as opposing it: they are the new white meat.
