This is how (put your own word here) Phelps is! He could have said "Some one gave me that thing, and said ... Hey Phelps put it up to your mouth!! they took a picture of me doing that, and sold it for several thousands of dollars... I have no idea why anyone would want such a stupid photo!!"

Oh, please! Let us retire the notion that all athletes must be shining examples Puritan virtue.

All we should ask of them is that they do their jobs (unaided by performance-enhancing drugs)and be reasonably decent folks, which includes being kinder to children and animals than not. -

The best we could provide for the word to become a multi-time record breaking gold metal athlete, just so happens to be a pothead.
That just must chapped some of your hide. Are your hides chapped? Thats good. -

he's not a pothead (one photo with a bong does not a pothead make) and marijuana isn't a performance enhancing drug. he didn't smoke while he was training, was drug tested thoroughly while he was breaking world record after world record so he's not a cheater, and didn't try to lie about it when the photo surfaced and immediately came clean and apologized to all of his fans. and remember, we're not talking about a great olympic athlete here, we're talking about the greatest olympic athlete of all time. so, give it a rest, and give the kid a break cause he deserves it.
meanwhile, ARod lied his arse off on national TV, took a performance enhancing drug, which makes him a goddam cheater, he only spoke about it after he was outed by the current investigation (only then did he come clean and apologize even though he knew he was a liar for years - all it took for him to tell the truth was scientific evidence) and so far hasn't suffered one bit from it monetarily.
says a lot about our current values. -

Pot versus alcohol or legal versus illegal. Now if pot were legal would we be having this discussion.... I think not. There lies the problem. You can open any magazine or turn on any channel and see sports and alcohol...and at one time sports and cigarettes....now that was a good one. It all boils down to having an archaic law that prohibits the use of MJ and allows booze to be pushed as a "sports drink"

Actually pot is legal in some states, perhaps Phelps has a prescription. I don't know where the photo was taken but he could have been in Amsterdam and not have broken any laws.

Besides, some of my greatest role models smoke the the stuff. Who really cares if he indulged in the herb? Do people really think that makes you a bad person?
