Comments for Teenage handbag thief outpaced by 72-year-old ex-sprinter »
Posted By JamesMarcus 9 months, 4 weeks ago in NewsA teenage thief picked on the wrong victim when she tried to run off with a bag belonging to 72-year-old pensioner Jean Hirst--a former championship sprinter.
The retired teacher had allowed three teenage girls into her car to help her with directions after getting lost on the way to a theater. She was straight out of the starting blocks again, however, when one of them took advantage and tried to make off with her bag.
As Mrs Hirst jumped out of the car and gave chase, she soon began to close on the culprit, who was forced to throw down the bag in her desperation to escape.
Mrs Hirst said: "Suddenly I felt 18 again. The adrenaline just kicked in and I seemed to turn back the years." As a 17-year-old, she was the Nottinghamshire County Schools 100 yards champion and qualified for the final of All England Schools Championship in Ashington.

At a time when our economy is in shambles, kids are being abducted, planes are dropping out of the skies, the news is too depressing anymore. This was a great story...the visual made me chuckle. I'd give anything to meet this grandma and give her a hug, this was one brave and spunky lady. Kudos, Grandma!!

Moral of this story:
For would-be thieves -- Be careful. You never know who you are robbing just by looking at them.
For everyone -- Don't EVER let anyone you don't know in your car. You never know who you are letting in just by looking at them. -

never ever allow strangers in your car, male or female. I am thrilled she is OK but oh how different it could have been.

Old people have earned there place on this planet. young people have not even put in any hardwork and still have a long ways to go to .They should always respect thier elders. And what cowards they are for even thinking about preying on an old person. If they prey on someone in their own age range they would get the **** beat out of them. That is the only reason they pick on elders.

On a similar note, my sister was in Houston TX at a Girl Scout Convention. They had just seen a film showing girls earning their various badges. Yes, it is what Boy Scouts call Merit Badges, but that's another story.
Anyway, a group of the girls were walking from a restaurant back to the hotel, and some idiot came up behind them and grabbed her purse. She hung on, and the rest of the Girl Scouts came to her rescue. They quickly dispatched the would-be thief, got him to the ground, and gave him the pummelling he so richly deserved. During the fracas, one girl turned to the other and said "I'm glad I got my self-defense badge." By the time the police arrived on the scene the idiot thief of the year was *begging* the cops to take him to jail. He was heard muttering about being so unlucky as to pick a bunch of Girl Scouts with self-defense badges.
This is a true story. -

this one reminds me of my buddy's experience one night, he was visiting a sick friend at the hospital and as he was getting back to his car in the parking lot two punks came up on him, he's 75 and short 5'6" about 150 lbs, looked like easy prey. the next day the police were at his house trying to figure out how he was able to dispach both punks..... he is a former navy seal.loved to have seen their faces.

If I learned one thing from watching "JAG" and observing the relatively aging Admiral Chegwidden ( whose character was also a formal Navy Seal ) is that you don't mess with a former Navy Seal

Sorry about the "formal" typo. Broke my own rule. Should have read the piece one more time.
