The “war” on Barack Obama? Oh please, Were you people asleep the last eight years? »
Posted By pc25 10 months, 3 weeks ago in NewsThe normally sensible Joe Gandelman links to the normally hysterical Andrew Sullivan today to complain about the supposed “war” launched against Barack Obama by the Republicans. Neither man considers the fact that Republicans — and a great many Americans — have serious questions about the economic policies of Obama and the Democratic leadership in Congress, but instead just have it out for Obama personally.

Good faith? When exactly did the Democrats show good faith? This bill started out by locking Republicans out of its draft, as well as many Democrats through Nancy Pelosi’s refusal to return to regular order in the House. This is the most expensive bill ever considered by the Congress, by far the most expensive project ever considered, and yet the Democrats have failed to allow any meaningful debate or access to amend the bill. In fact, they have yet to provide the bill to some members, but K Street already has its copies. Yet they want to force a vote today on a bill comprising 1500 pages of legisation, with an initial cost of $785 billion and a ten-year cost of over $3 trillion without giving people a chance to read it — and the Republicans are acting in bad faith-

PC, that is an outstanding short synopsis!

It appears more and more like Pelosi and Reid are attempting to turn this beloved country of ours into a short order oligarchy on our path to a full scale dictatorship.
It is not that far fetched.
I have looked at the process in other countries in the past, you know that fascinating subject called history, and watched the "How on earth did the citizens ever let this happen?". It is slow, it creeps up and we the citizens are letting this slow process happen. We are witnessing it first hand. The legendary "Takeover without a single shot being fired".
We have a way to deal with it in a republic! We need to wake up! Stop this madness! We cannot continue to let this insanity continue. Let everyone of our representatives know that we will not continue to sit by in our "learned helpless" state any longer.
One thing that has not been fully figured into the current plan, the one designed to squelch all dissenters from the press is the internet. PC, I salute you for your continued efforts!
The rest of you, I do not care what your political affiliations are, just look at how Pelosi and Reid have shut out the voice of your Democratic representatives and taken over this whole outrageous process.
This is our country, and the sellout on both sides of the aisle is terrifying. I know first hand what is going on, and the sellout by our career opportunists is breathtaking. Only you there can stop it, pay attention to what is happening and stop it. Pay attention to what is going on and stop it! Please wake up your neighbors and make them help YOU stop it! You can do 'er! This is still a republic for a little while longer, at least.
We are at a very critical crossroad. Do not be daunted by the dire strait "they" have told you you are in. Put your hand back in your pocket and use all that all-American ingenuity that is welling within you!
It all comes down to you, you and I, it all comes down to us.
We can stand up, or let them have their way. Please believe in yourselves, we can help ourselves, we can stop this continued downhill slide into oblivion!
Forget the games and the self-imposed oblivion, go deep inside and come up strong. It is time now, much more of this insanity and it may be too late. No time for blame, wake up America!! We do not need instructions, we need ideas. We need to stop the madness. We will not allow the "sellouts" in congress anymore.
Necessity is the mother of invention. Some of you can hear me, and no, violence has absolutely no part in it... -

--By taking out stuff Republicans went into histrionics over (even though "condoms" represented a tiny fraction of one percent of the bill) and by putting in (and keeping in) provisions Republicans wanted. I would have RIPPED those tax cuts right the hell back outta the bill after REPUBLICANS acted in totally bad faith the way they have.
"This bill started out by locking Republicans out of its draft, as well as many Democrats through Nancy Pelosi’s refusal to return to regular order in the House."
--Which just goes to show us how petty, immature and spiteful Republicans can be when they don't get their way. They stamped their little feet like spoiled toddlers in mid-tantrum-- less because they don't think the plan will work than because they felt they didn't get to stand up on the stage and bluster on endlessly and indulge in their usual spineless delay tactics.
"This is the most expensive bill ever considered by the Congress, by far the most expensive project ever considered, and yet the Democrats have failed to allow any meaningful debate or access to amend the bill."
--Because when Republicons lie and come up with totally bogus reasons to delay passage of the bill (oh gee...it seemed like every appropriation for Iraq was an emergency and the terrorists were nipping at our heels--when Bush wanted more money for Iraq--oh wait...remind us what Iraq had to do with 9/11?) we know they don't deserve to be taken seriously.
"In fact, they have yet to provide the bill to some members, but K Street already has its copies."
--That's pretty freaking hilarious. Republicans lying and crying that they didn't get to read the whole bill but magically they all came out and bleated the same horsecrap about "condoms" and honeybees, and golf carts, etc". Maybe they should have divided the bill in half so they could have come up with a wider assortment of dishonest talking points and disgusting spin. -

And when did you complain and sob "Waaaah...It's all happening too faaaasst. I can't wrap my tiny little con peabrain around all these big numbers and words with more than one syllable. Pleaaase...Slow downnnnn. Don't spend that 87 billion in Iraq until we know where every single freakin' penny is going. How much is that embassy costing, Bush?! And why is it so big?! Nevermind. We'll re-elect you anyway, Bush. We lurrrrve u. Anybody but the "socialists". Help! We don't understand why Bush is losing pallets of billions in cash in Iraq! Make it stop." It is hardly the most expensive project ever considered. The bushie/zioncon war in Iraq, for example, has cost us more. Alternatively, the entire stimulus bill could be paid for in about two years simply by cutting the Pentagon back to the levels before bushie and his zioncons went wild.

We shouldn't forget that the current "noise and fury" of the wingers is just a re-hash of their 1992 campaign.
Frank Schaeffer: An Open Letter to President Obama About the Republicans (From a Former Republican)
... As a former lifelong Republican, son of a co-founder of the Religious Right; my late evangelical leader father, Francis Schaeffer, I'm in a unique position to tell you a few things about the Republicans from inside perspective. ..
The lack of cooperation you're getting from the Republican Party will continue. You were right to indulge in a little bit of tokenism when you had to Pastor Rick Warren pray at your inauguration. But if you think that the Republicans in Congress and the Senate are going to do more than their utmost to obstruct everything you are and what you stand for you're dreaming.
... allow me to explain something: the Republican Party is controlled by two ideological groups. First, is the Religious Right. Second, are the neoconservatives. Both groups share one thing in common: they are driven by fear and paranoia. Between them there is no Republican "center" for you to appeal to, just two versions of hate-filled extremes.
The Religious Right supply the kind of people who at McCain and Palin rallies were yelling things such as "kill him" about you. That's the constituency to which your hand was extended when looking for compromise on your financial bailout bill.
There's only one thing that makes sense for you now. Mr. President, you need to forget a bipartisan approach and get on with the business of governing by winning each battle. You will never be able to work with the Republicans because they hate you. Believe me, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are the norm not the exception. James Dobson and the rest are praying for you to fail. The neoconservatives are gnashing their teeth and waiting for you to "sell out Israel" or "show weakness" in Afghanistan, whatever, so they can declare you a traitor. -

To give the proposed economic stimulus plan some perspective, "if you started the day Jesus Christ was born and spent $1 million every day since then, you still wouldn’t have spent $1 trillion."-

Keep crying, cons. NO ONE CARES. Not after Republicans sat back and said squat while Bush blasted our debt into the stratosphere for 8 years and said nothing. We don't care. We don't care what you people are outraged by after you rewarded Bush for doing what you're accusing Obama of doing. Your hero not only foisted trillions in debt on us but he did it to serve his oil buddies and corporate friends. Now we're swirling around in the aftermath of Bush and Cheney having squatted over the American flag and relieved our country of trillions. We do not care that cons are crying. Get serious. LOL ;-P

Keep in mind Congress will be returning from break to pass the 2009 appropriations bill - one huge omnibus boondoggle
After all the 2009 fiscal year began Oct 1 2008! They are finally getting around to appropriating money for the the fiscal year we have been in for 4 1/2 months!
Have you read this?
Federal obligations exceed world GDP
Does $65.5 trillion terrify anyone yet?
As the Obama administration pushes through Congress its $800 billion deficit-spending economic stimulus plan, the American public is largely unaware that the true deficit of the federal government already is measured in trillions of dollars, and in fact its $65.5 trillion in total obligations exceeds the gross domestic product of the world.
The total U.S. obligations, including Social Security and Medicare benefits to be paid in the future, effectively have placed the U.S. government in bankruptcy, even before new continuing social welfare obligation embedded in the massive spending plan are taken into account.
The real 2008 federal budget deficit was $5.1 trillion, not the $455 billion previously reported by the Congressional Budget Office, according to the "2008 Financial Report of the United States Government" as released by the U.S. Department of Treasury.
The difference between the $455 billion "official" budget deficit numbers and the $5.1 trillion budget deficit cited by "2008 Financial Report of the United States Government" is that the official budget deficit is calculated on a cash basis, where all tax receipts, including Social Security tax receipts, are used to pay government liabilities as they occur.
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.vie...
And just wait until Prince Timothy finally gets around to telling us how much he will need
Anyone want to bet that Congress will be back for another "stimulus" bill in 6 - 12 months because this first one was not big enough? -

--It must've made sense to cons in 2004--since they sure loved re-electing Bush after he started handing out war time tax cuts and blasting through a budget surplus. But cons are actually dimwitted and delusional to the point of actually thinking no one remembers how they rewarded Bush for extreme failure. Yeah--we believe you cons. LOL ;-P

Funny how you guys forget the war you had on President Clinton, not to mention the fact that in the first six years of Bush you locked the Democrats out of every decision. You guys put this country where it is and trying to say that the last two years are at fault because the Democrats had control is total BS. They didn't have enough majority to accomplish anything. You where still able to roadblock anything they wanted to get done.

What the silly, tit-for-tat right wing nut fringe conveniently forgets *every* time they try to manufacture their next excuse to hate Obama based on the previous 8 years are the circumstances under which Bush was "elected" originally. They forget that Bush didn't exactly get into office based on a landslide win. They forget that they raked Clinton over the coals "because he lied under oath" (and they laughed themselves silly every time Karl Rove or another Bushie TOTALLY disregards the law--subpoena? What's that? Bush vacations while New Orleans drowns? Bi-partisan commission declares your VP candidate abused her power? Why, the answer is simple investigate yourself and declare yourself innocent. Get convicted on 7 felony counts? Ohhhh...that? Well, Ted Stevens says it's not "innocent until proven guilty" it's more like *innocent until all of my appeals run out or I die of old age--whichever comes first*.

You cons forget that Bush didn't even TRY to be a "uniter". Instead, he divided America into the ultra wealthy and everyone else. But cons don't think that might be why they aren't in power anymore or that that could be why Bush left office with a 22% approval rating. Nope. It's always the fault of the evil liberals that bad things happen to Republicans. Yep...The party of personal responsibility. Sure. That motto fits you people to perfection. ;-P -

Pc25 gives us a brief article saying the hard-right is not out to get Obama.
Reply
A case can be made for this.
Opposition is not war; competition is as good for politics as it is for lemonade stands.
Fatal mistake: it is Pc25 telling us.
In 2008 there was a fad for imaginary rants by Michelle Obama. The 'transcripts' were of insane ravings; not just angry, but frothing at the mouth looney rage.
The descriptions had a weird ring of truth;
Pc25 and company were describing someone they knew.
It just wasn't who they told us.
Of course the Republican far-right is at war with Obama.
And of course they will lose. Fraud isn't a winning strategy, and hate is a poor energy source.
But America will win. -

Wall street has failed to do what was right. Bankers have failed to do what was right. Politicians are continuing to fail to do what is right.
Keep going at it because ya think ya have the answers. By all means show us all how little we have learned over the past 40 some years.
The house is on fire and we're arguing about who started the fire, while we are being consumed instead of putting the fire out.
Throwing money at a problem does not solve it. Lowering taxes on the wealthy does not solve it. Changing the way we do business is going to be the only way to solve this mess.
That must be part of the solution. We cannot continue to allow corporations to make laws favoring big business while inhibiting the creation and growth of small to medium businesses.
Destroying competitors may strengthen one financially for the short term. But in the long term it cuts out technology and growth of the real economy.
I always hear about people in the US wanting to much money to do their jobs. Well what about the CEO's and those who have screwed us???
Please take off your political glasses an look around. We are very close to losing this nation for what it is supposed to be. -

Liberalism, the Culture of Death. America will DIE from its own ignorance that has put these evil tyrant’s in control of this country and your lives. You’ve been suckered by this so-called financial bailout BS that will do nothing for you but gives all this money to the government and its cronies who already have billions upon billions of dollars. The suffering right now is nothing compared to what’s ahead. Ignorance, the most abundant quality a person has and American’s are full of it.

It was government spending that got us out of the last great depression so there is no reason to doubt this is the correct course of action now. One of the silliest arguments conservative revisionist make is that the New Deal didn't end the depression but World War II did. Now let me ask you, if World War Two wasn't a massive jobs program what was it? It was all government spending amped up and injected with steroids. All the war did was lift any objections to its necessity or wisdom but it was NOT private sector demand or initiative that ended the last depression. This ushered in Americas longest era of sustained and shared prosperity despite having a 90% tax rate for the wealthiest Americans. What followed World War Two was the GI bill that helped returning vets go to school and purchase homes. What a tragic idea that turned out to be creating all those middle class communities. All this evil government spending brought in the awful high standard of living that would be the envy of the world and stimulated advances in technology that we use today. Bad government.
