Right Wing Leftovers | Right Wing Watch »
Posted By Radiofreeeuropa 9 months, 2 weeks ago in Political News# Frank Schaeffer, whose father Francis was influential in the rise of the Religious Right, has penned an open letter to Barack Obama to tell him that they cannot be worked with:
"As someone who appeared numerous times on the 700 Club with Pat Robertson, as someone for whom Jerry Falwell used to send his private jet to bring me to speak at his college, as an author who had James Dobson giveaway 150,000 copies of my one of my fundamentalist "books" allow me to explain something: the Republican Party is controlled by two ideological groups. First, is the Religious Right. Second, are the neoconservatives. Both groups share one thing in common: they are driven by fear and paranoia. Between them there is no Republican "center" for you to appeal to, just two versions of hate-filled extremes.
The Religious Right supply the kind of people who at McCain and Palin rallies were yelling things such as "kill him" about you. That's the constituency to which your hand was extended when looking for compromise on your financial bailout bill.
There's only one thing that makes sense for you now. Mr. President, you need to forget a bipartisan approach and get on with the business of governing by winning each battle. You will never be able to work with the Republicans because they hate you. Believe me, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are the norm not the exception. James Dobson and the rest are praying for you to fail."

"As a former lifelong Republican, son of a co-founder of the Religious Right; my late evangelical leader father, Francis Schaeffer, I'm in a unique position to tell you a few things about the Republicans from inside perspective. (As you know I left that movement in the mid 1980s.)
The lack of cooperation you're getting from the Republican Party will continue. You were right to indulge in a little bit of tokenism when you had to Pastor Rick Warren pray at your inauguration. But if you think that the Republicans in Congress and the Senate are going to do more than their utmost to obstruct everything you are and what you stand for you're dreaming."
It seems there are very very few moderates left in the Republican Party, only extremists remain. Their agenda has been to bring down the U.S. government. How many times has a wingnut declared they despise the federal government, yet they sought to be in it and have controlled it for the better part of the last 50 years, the era of highly questionable unnecessary deficit spending and giveaways to the wealthiest individuals and corporations.
Bush was highly successful in the true mission. Topple the U.S. economy and destroy the true intentions of the founders.
Why else does someone who hates government work for it?
Simple... sabotage.
They know the majority of voters will not allow them to dismantle public education, privatize their social security (my imagine that, only a year ago these thieves were claiming how stupid it was not to put this money in the hands of AIG, Lehman Bros, and Bernard Madoff where it could be "invested"..hey it was designed as insurance against exactly the scenario we now face which was faced by FDR in the 30s.)
sell off their national parks, or allow the first amendment to be trampled. So they do the next best thing... cause it to collapse from within.
They buy a couple Chinese made flagpins and hide their treachery behind a facade of authoritarian poses and Orwellian doublespeak. But the truth is they oppose The United States of America, they oppose justice, they oppose human dignity for all but themselves, and they oppose democracy. Their goal is to take down the government so their feudalistic corporate theocracy can be installed instead.
Traitors and treasonous thieves, nothing more.-

Actually when Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964, he predicted that he was giving the presidency to the GOP for most of the next 50 years. It was unfortunate that this was at a time when not only the "religious" right, but also the neo(zion)cons were on the rise. Time to get back to the ideals of American democracy.

the right wing people are the biggest hypocrites in America...America could use solidarity now and not sabateurs. Their greed is all consuming not just for money but power because their Christianity lacks any linkage to the life which Jesus Christ taught.
