Pennsylvania wants to ban these uses in school, but is a state that has no law against using a cell phone while driving, which is known to be dangerous.

LOL...which is more important, PA? Road safety or using a cell phone in school?

Why not just restrict use to before class, during lunch, after class and at certain school functions?

Ah...the laws states are coming up with...LOL...

    Focus should definitely be on the studies, why is why I think phones should be banned after the last bell in the morning, able to be used during lunch (with permission), and not be used until school is out.
    
    I don't see any reason to ban them from school functions where parents are present, such as sports, or before or after school plays, or during other after-school activities, as long as they have permission form the teacher/teachers in charge.
    
    Yes, calculators used to be banned, but now you can use them in taking PSAT and SAT tests...times have changed...

  That's what my school here in CA did... Although I think there were times they objected to their use during lunch cause the duty's would give us filthy looks but I think an all-out ban is utterly foolish

      What harm does listening to an Ipod at lunch cause? As long as the dingus' put them away for class, it doesn't hurt if two friends playfully text each other back and forth up till the bell during passing period. Why infringe on the rights of a group of people who already have their lives basically controlled for them? Give them SOME freedom... It's like those people forcing a replacement of all the snackfood in middle and high schools with healthy only. Why? Because "some kids lack self control" well bollocks to those kids, I feel for them as a psychologist, but as a psychologist I say just don't give them money for food at school!! Helloooooo, if they're obese then they need a diet, it can be just as easily handled by forcing all kids to present an ID card at the snack place so you can create a list of kids and the parents of those who need to avoid the foods can opt their kids out of it. Why make everybody suffer because of a few bad apples?
