I agree. Obama should have either signed the bill the moment it passed, or kept to his 5-day promise.
Reply
I'm not gonna shirk from holding Obama's feet to the fire, however, I'm not gonna discard his entire Presidency based on this. Something HAD to be passed.

Wah, Wah! The Bush lovers are all crying here.

Never mind that Bush tanked the economy with a fake war for profit. That's where all the money went folks.
I don't mind the social programs-it's better for jobs. It's better than lining the pockets of the rich, facists, and corporations.-

Mr. Obama defines his entire career when he puts pen to paper today. The liberals defined this economic crisis with thier actions beginning with the Community Reinvestment Act put in place by Carter. Clinton better defined that deal and these current 'characters' kept it in place and even strenghtened it to bring on the mortgage crisis which set us up for disaster with the 'do nothing' Congress which 'did nothing' to gain the Presidency at the cost of the American public. Shameful group these 'people' are!

The interesting about the Stimulus package is that most of the money will not begin to be spent until 2011. The funds will become available between 2011 and 2019 so how in the world was it imperative that the stimulus be passed when it was. Most economists expect the economy to begin to rebound the middle of next year. Another Obama LIE and sleight of hand............

I just heard a tax adviser on the local news
Reply
Apparently the language in the stimulus bill does NOT require an employer to readjustment the taxes taken out of your check for the "rebate" Congress passed - the $13/week this yr and $8/week next year
If your employer does not make the adjustment, you will have to claim the amount you are owed when you file your Federal income tax next year then again in 2010 (for 2009)
Now how many people are going to realize that and never get their rebates! What a scam!
The middle class screwed again
And this info if you are on Social Security etc and don't work
If you do not have a job, the best way to get the tax rebate is to actually file a tax return, even if you do not owe taxes. The IRS (irs.gov) has provided special filing instructions for those who do not otherwise have a filing requirement. This includes low-income workers, Social Security beneficiaries, and those who receive certain benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs

YEAH!
I'm sure it has nothing to do with the US carmakers about to go belly up, the vast increase in unemployment and the tanking economy. Certainly it's the fault of a person who's been president less than a month.

So, O'Bama is spsnding Trillions on Tax Cuts. Big Deal.I hope the Republicans remember back to the days when their was a Democratic President i9n the White House and the Budget was Balanced and we had a surpus. Then along came Bush and the Republican's. Huge Deficet and a stupid stupid war that balloned the budget out of control. And where did all of this mess with the Banks failing, GM, Chrysler, and Ford losing Billions of Dollars, a Housing Crisis and an economy on the Verge of collapse. ON A REPUBLICAN PRESUIDENTS HEAD. Tell me Republicans you had both houses and the Presidency for 6 years. What did you do? Nothiungf but get this country into a huge mess. Now, of course, you will try to blame it on the Democrats. YEH SURE.

What an absurd point of view. This is the ultimate display of hypocrisy by head in the sand Republicans. Where have they been the past eight years while the Bush administration basically ran our economy into the ground?

The Bill that passed provides for projects that might actually benefit those who have to pay for it while providing a gentle landing for the bursting of Bush's economic bubble.

Some of those "pet projects" are the ACTUAL answers to much of what is WRONG with this society --- which has now given "us" all the ECONOMIC MELTDOWN we are now all "enjoying".
Reply
Quit jacking your jaws and get busy doing something CONSTRUCTIVE to actually BUILD that Green-Collar Economic Revolution that is now going to be needed to make up for "our" dwindling supply of raw oil --- and "our" INability to "economically" compel the rest of the world to "carry us along for a free ride", foregoing their OWN development and cultures in favor of promoting "OURS"! -

Now that EMPEROR obama hussian has gotten his money to redistribute from the middle class tax dollars for their so called social programs. I hope Everyone will be happy. In a few more years there won't be a middle class. I don't include the Rich because they hire lawyers to exempt them from paying. Like some of the Emperor's friends that he tried to sneak in to cabinet jobs. OH TAXES?? I FORGOT TO PAY TAXES?? I'm sorry I'll send a check out tomorrow. Huh, like an average American can get away with it. See if you can do it.

I can not believe how ignorant we are as a nation. Republicans have SPENT the Hell out of this country and now since they lost Congress and the Presidency they are "taking a stand". This is absolutely ludicrous to me. They don't give a d*mn! Like Bush went on the road to sell this fake war to the American people, Obama went to explain this stimulus to the stupid masses which most of you seem to be proud to be a part of. He was not on vacation you dangerously academically challenged person and I used the word "person" loosely. You probably should check how many times Bush went on vacation in Klanexas before you talk- But I guess you take vacations more when you are uneducated and don't know what the Hell you are doing! It is truly baffling to me that a person who had to work for a living without taking handouts from daddy is viewed as ill-equipped for the office. Obama has not even been in office a month and already you have the ignorant flapping their chops.

In 2006, Lott and Cochran (R) stuffed a bit of it into the Iraq apporprians bill. Seems they wanted 700 Million to tear down part of a rail line, and insert a highway. Never mind that the CSX Railroad, along with their insurers, had just spent 300 Million to upgrade that bit of line.
But oh, that's not all. They wanted 700 Million MORE, to take another section of line and move it. How come? So private developers could build a casino on the railroads site.
I think I'll find some more. Gotta keep this conversation honest, know what I mean? ;) -

Actually. This is what you did. You attacked people based on how long they've been a member instead of addressing their statements, most of which were factual.

Just think of all of the Chicago Democrats who will be employed in the fancy new building for “National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.”
Reply
There are some things I don't like in this bill - like the green stuff. Companies have been working on that for a long time and so far there are more problems than solutions.
But the medical bill scares me. I thought the liberals were up in arms over the supposed IBM business in Germany in the 1930s.
This health group will be able to sort us on race, income, genetics, neighborhood, politics, height, weight, and age, among other things. Would it include group memberships?
Very frightening.
