The kind of anger Pelosi is describing is on both sides and I don't think this bodes well for our country. My concern is that it seems (IMO) a lot of the anger towards the left is misplaced. We didn't force Bush and the GOP to betray them and we shouldn't get extra crap from the right because they're p*ssed off at their party AND terrified of the "socialists" agenda. It's just not right. ;-(

But is any worse now than 10 years ago?
Reply
Or during the Nixon years?
Or during the McCarthy era?
Or during the depresion (the first one)?
Or during the civil war?
Or during the Missouri compromise?
Or during the revolution?
Or when Cane stared angrily at the back of Abel's head?
Insane, paranoid anger is part of the political engine.
Their's , I mean; my anger is only righteous wrath and the thirst for justice .
Pelosi was brave to film this.
I wouldn't have gone done it without a fake name, beard and bullet-proof tank.

I would say scratching an "B" on your face and filing a police report saying you were raped is similar. It's called mental illness. Millions of America suffer from this disease - on both sides.

And I don't remember the Left going out and buying up as much ammo as possible as is currently happening. The laughable part is how completely un-American a country these people would establish if they had the chance.
And if I do recall correctly 90+% of the public backed GW post 9/11. I suppose a few of that number were Democrats? He allowed that support to be scuttled by the likes of Cheney. Would cons and neocons fall behind Obama in similar numbers? I seriously doubt it!
We don't expect you to work with us. Your idealogy s-cks and has been shown to be an abysmal failure. You tried to enrich your base at the expense of the average American and scuttled the free market because of it. Take your tinker toys and go home and think about what you have done. Then maybe someone in your party will come up with something progressive and forward thinking other than trying to scare and fool the electorate. That worked before but the results can only be viewed as catastrophic. -

Georgia - Your dejection will never reach the depths of ours. After Gore lost to Bush (even though Gore won the popular vote 50999897 to 50456002) and after Kerry lost, we could only bang our collective heads on the wall and watch Bush tear our country apart and make his monumental mistakes about Afghanistan and Iraq.

You guys will see the country rise again in economic strength, international stature, and political unity. What ARE you grieving about?

I think the GOP has some problems right now but I think they will come back stronger than ever. The economy isn't as bad off as they're telling you. Unemployment is still under 10% and some firms are in fact growing, Bucyrus International is an example in the news today. The claims of Bacon Obama and his posse clearly want you to think you cannot live without the government handouts. It's a terrible waste.

Ok, so it's under 10% when you consider ONLY recent applicants for unempolyment, which would have been 7.6% in January.
Reply
Now lets consider long-term unemployed. you know, people who can't find jobs, or have given up on the market.
Oh yeah, then there's the "involuntary part-time workers", who right now account for about 7.5 million people. Those are the folks who work out of sheer desperation... you know, the kinds of americans who take "those jobs" away from illegal aliens.
And the credits are STILL ROLLING for the Bush malministration... -

I must agree with you BB. We are suffering through a 'liberal led' economic pounding all for the sake of the Presidency while knowing in fact that Congress leads this country moreso than our sitting leader. A total mess was created, now we get to see if these 'people' can, in fact, clean up thier mess. Not a fair shake for the American public but the truth is coming ever so clean.

1) still employed but have lost their homes,
2) lost hours or salary level or benefits or all of the above in their original jobs
3) have been out of work for so long they have given up looking and are not in the statistics
4) were laid off and had to take part time or menial jobs to stay alive (eg., silicon valley executives who recently signed up to be census takers)
5) running small businesses that are desperately struggling to stay afloat.
Depending on which article you read, the unemployment rate during the Great Depression ranged form 12.5% to 19.1%. The reason is that the current statistical methodology we use was not adopted until 1940. So the unemployment rates before 1940 are estimates.
If the 12.5% rate is correct, we are not too far from a real depression. I guess you won't be worrying about the failing economy and depression until the unemployment rate reaches - what - 12.4%?.
Thanks a lot, George Bush. Your legacy will be with us for a long, long, long time. -

--Pelosi warns us of that. It's disheartening to realize that right wingers could someday in my lifetime end up in power again--while having learned nothing from the last 8 years.
"The economy isn't as bad off as they're telling you. Unemployment is still under 10% and some"
--No. I'm afraid it is. Look what happened to Gramm. And McCain. Exactly. They got slapped upside the head by reality. And Bush finally said so when he had no choice but to acknowledge the truth. To deny this now is to believe that Bush was lying a couple of months ago when he came out (looking as if the world was about to end) to beg for money for his banker and insurance buddies or he was lying in the years leading up to this meltdown. Which is it?

This drivel from a poster who chose to model his moniker after one of the most scurrilous government officials we will ever see. Wolfowitz was the neocon "genius". He was the brilliant one. Yet most of his ambitious ideas were complete failures. Like all neocons he eschewed responsibility then fled for the World Bank (only to once again disgrace himself).

You guys already plotted successfully in planting GWB in the WH. Look what he and you guys have done to our once-magnificent country.
Enough of your plotting! We need to work on getting our country's finances back in shape, killing OBL, regaining our international stature, stabilizing Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, and providing health care for our people.
You guys go ahead and hide in your dark, dank caves and plot. We will do some hard work here - for the good of the country. If you want to help, join in. If not, stay in your caves. -

I love it when someone who tried to be so truly objective says this about the followers of the GOP faith:
Reply
"That gentleman was screaming, "Wake up America!" and on the side of his truck it said, "Obama is a socialist idiot," and I just didn't understand how he could be so misinformed. He was an electrician. He made less than $150,000 a year. And he was toeing the party line of a party that was not helping him. There were a lot of people who didn't know what socialism was, and this is tricky, because you don't want to make them all look like, "Oh, he didn't know what socialism was." This isn't a Jay Leno episode. You're not trying to point out that 90 percent of the people at the rallies don't know what socialism is."
90 percent... how true. When you look at what they supported for the previous eight years, it's clear they don't know what "freedoms" or "rights" are either.
And now the people on the other side are starting to look the same way... -

I have to agree on that. The incessant pounding along with the drumbeat of change, change, change was about all I could stand.
Reply
What happened to the drive and promise for bipartisanship? Can't say I've seen much of that. Looks more like a steamrolling political machine.
As a middle-class American taxpayer it seems right now the only "change" that I can anticipate at this point is the seven dollars and some "change" coming to a paycheck soon.
I've already sent my 2 girls through college, my son turns 17 this year (so there goes the child tax credit) and he doesn't plan on going to college, I don't plan on replacing either one of my 2 (less than 3 years old) cars, would love to buy a new house but can't find anyone to buy mine because they can't find anyone to buy theirs or they can't qualify for a loan, I'm not a policeman, teacher, college employee, public works employee or other state or govt. employee and my wife watches our grandchildren for free to help out the kids so she can't even get a job, even if there was one available. We've paid our fair share of taxes and our bills including our mortgage and managed all of this through 2 previous recessions (Carter/Bush-Clinton-Bush). I just recently was able to start contributing to a 401K (in my late 40's) only to see it evaporate in the current market. I've got the federal govt. telling me what I can and can't do, the state govt. telling me what I can and can't do, the county govt. telling me what I can and can't do, the city govt. telling me what I can and can't do, the education board telling me what I can and can't do and my neighborhood association telling me what I can and can't do. I guess it would be too much to ask all these folks to simply agree on some basic issues or rules to simply apply to everyone fairly and go out and find a job or life that requires an equivalent participation as that which has been required of me.
Only thing is, this would require pride, independence and ingenuity. That's what's been lost in this country. There was a time when pride was something to not be ashamed of but in this now so liberally motivated and politically correct society if one holds his head high, they (the politically correct), along with the mentally challenged and sensationally driven media have actually misconstrued and misinterpreted pride as snobbiness, vanity, greed and even rude or selfish behavior.
Interpretation can be a great tool if used wisely but when used emotionally through such feelings as jealousy, lack of ambition or simple prejudice then the interpretation itself can become fallible. Fairness cannot be interpreted by force or emotion it must be interpreted by achievement through a insightful endeavor to be equal.

They [Republicans] had huge crowds, and I felt they were really underrepresented in the media. I didn’t feel like I saw these people on TV.
Reply
And when I went out to talk to people, the first thing they would say to me was, "I can't believe you're talking to me." They were so flattered that I wanted to hear what they had to say because they'd say, "The media doesn't listen to us. You turn on the TV and all you see is Obama nation and you don't see us."
They had some points. My liberal friends, I have to remind them that they have some really good points. No. 1, the media did not fairly represent them in this election. Obama was on the cover of every magazine all summer long. I understand Obama sold magazines. It's a business. But when you've got a presidential election and you have half of the country feeling really underrepresented, I think that's a real problem.
And I think that's a bigger problem than Obama versus McCain.
There was this guy in Fort Wayne, Ind., Fred Boise, who says, "The media paints us to be fanatics. They treat us like hicks and we just go to Wal-Mart and we're rednecks. And they don't come to get to know us, and they go on stereotypes."
I think all of that is true. Of course there were a lot of clichés that I had to overcome when I got there. "Hi, I'm from New York and my last name is Pelosi," and obviously that was like funny to them in a weird way. Like, "What are you doing here?"-

Well I know that we are headed in the right direction, Obama is going to bring us out of this, all the greed that the Repbulicans have is what got us in the mess we in now.do you think a Republican would offer their help to someone if they saw with their own eyes that a family with kids were going to bed hungery or the elderly were sick and had no way to be treated. Thoes Whitehouse Republicans are nothing but greedy people, so afraid of losing a dime, It well come back on them and it well be harder then what they think, you never do anything to anyone unless it comes back on you. So do your little ploting and what ever because Democrates out number the greed. And frankly my dear I dont give a dame.
