Posted By TechnologyExpert 10 months, 2 weeks ago in Science & TechnologyFacebook's Terms of Service (TOS) changed a couple of weeks ago, but wasn't noticed until brought to people's attention by the site Consumerist. Despite some fast tap-dancing by Facebook, the cat's out of the bag, and it's not going back in. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. In the past, I've been...disheartened by Propeller's practice of deleting a banned user's "permanent" history. In fact, I don't know if that is their practice or if this is simply dictated by software limitations. The fact that the person's entire history would be expunged seems extreme (especially when it meant an entire story thread would disappear as well). I've noticed that now when a poster is banned only *their* comments are removed (which makes reading those threads sort of like listening to one side of a phone conversation).

They've already gone back to the original TOS. They will be doing a thorough review, with user feedback and attempting to put things in plain English.

One thing to be thankful for: Zuckerberg knows how powerful Facebook can be in the wrong hands. He's already turned down a fortune for it, and I get the impression that he's still on the up-and-up. But they say everyone has their price. I just hope that his isn't met, and that he has the foresight to put some protections in place in case it turns over unexpectedly.
