"The new bill aims to create or preserve 3.5 million jobs, many of them so-called "green jobs," as the country confronts its highest unemployment rate in 16 years standing in January at 7.6 percent."
Reply
"Roughly one-third of the stimulus funds will be spent on tax cuts, totaling 286 billion dollars, in an effort to boost consumer spending, a key engine of the world's largest economy."
"But a further 120 billion dollars is being allocated to "shovel-ready" infrastructure projects, for such things as transportation, road-building, improving the power grid and renewable energy installations." -

Any money spent on infrastructure will be years down the road. There is no such thing a shovel-ready infrastructure jobs. That is not how the process works.
1. money allocated
2. preliminary plans drawn
3. Hearings held
4. plans drawn and rehashed
5. contract bid sought
6. contract awarded
7. permits drawn
8. law suits from tree huggers fought
9. Hurray, finally the jobs are there.
Notice that everything starts with the money being allocated. The bigger the job the longer it takes. I was chairman of Deacons when we built a new church. It took 2 years for that first shovel full. Had to jump through a lot of hoops and redesigns based on what the permit people said. Part of the money goes for all of the preliminary work to get ready for that first shovelful.
Where is the money for the parts of the economy who are hurting? Home builders and manufacturing? No where. This is not a stimulus package.
The vaunted tax cut is as follows.
"The stimulus plan would give a $400 tax cut to individuals and an $800 cut to couples. That boils down to an extra $13 a week for most workers starting in June. It would fall to about $8 extra per week next January."-

wow 13 dollars wow ill be rich with that much extra cash, oh wait i have bills so that 13 dollars will go for that , Where is the money that i'm suppose to spend to help the economy???? oh thats right it helps others that don't work for a living like those on welfare you know the fat lazy people who make more money not working then working and this stimulus bill will help more people reach their goal of living off the government instead of working, and those on welfare get tax breaks while us working Americans have to foot the bill. 13 dollars is not a tax break its the government ******* on me and trying to get me to believe that it is raining.

"The bigger the job the longer it takes... Part of the money goes for all of the preliminary work to get ready for that first shovelful." The longer it takes, the sooner we should get started, Might as well start paying out the money for the bureaucrats and examiners who must do the preliminary work. Is it better to just give the money away to consumers? I'm sure even if I was getting $100 more per week instead or $13, it would not improve our long-term future. It's not like we don't need these projects (they are not bridges to nowhere). Roll up your sleeves and do like you did when you were chairing the Deacons.

I am trying to post links to a couple of New York Times op-ed pieces, but the spam police are tired of seeing them. You can search them out, yourself. They are entitled

Its done, all we can do is hope for the best. I think everyone knows my stance on all of these bailouts by now. So its time to move forward.

I think that the website He created is a great move forward. I applaud that decision. It is important that we watch and hold accountable the spending.
What I don't like and I am noticing in the trend of reporting is the politics of the bill. Yes, this is a democratic party initiative their names and reputations are at stake, But we all need it to succeed. We may not like the plan, but we have to work that plan. If it does fail, in parts or on a whole, it cannot be from a lack of trying too WORK the plan.
We must learn from it, if those parts fail, why did they fail. If some parts turn out great, then why where they successful. Make no mistake this is a Democrat Philosophy, this is their opportunity to test it. If we are honest with each other we can learn a lot. -
