Obama Worship and the Herd Mentality-The groupthink that brought us Bush hatred has morphed into frothing adulation. »
Posted By pc25 8 months, 3 weeks ago in NewsSince the election of Barack Obama, there have been questions among Republicans and right-wing pundits about the future of the Republican Party and how the GOP might be able to retake both Congress and the White House. I have an answer for them, but it will take some telling.
I visited my local bookstore a few days ago and found the entire front table was taken up with every imaginable type of Barack Obama memorabilia.

Borders’ Obamessiah moment
What section would a bookstore put some junior-reader biographies of Barack Obama? A Borders store in Dallas found the perfect spot (via Mitch Berg and Psycmeister):-

So is the author saying that Bush followers didn't have this "herd" mentality? Not that I recall.
Reply
I do agree that the sale of books (in Obama's case, they are literally everywhere) does help promote and "sell" him...what the Republicans need is, like the author said, one or two "stand-out" people who can be promoted the same way.
Problems is, no one currently has the star power to do that, at least not yet.
If Obama isn't able to turn around this country economically, and I'm not saying he will be able, to the satisfaction of everyone, then maybe some as of yet undiscovered Republican may be able to become that "star" and move on to greater things.
Sarah Palin was that hope, but she has shown she's uncapable of answering simple questions put to her, and some of her beliefs don't sit well with the more moderate parts of the party. Yes, she galvanized the base, but you need more than the base to win. McCain came close, because he was more of a centrist. But from what I've seen, those in the Republican party seem much pickier than those in the Democratic party. They not only have to fight the Democrats, but's there's so much in-fighting among themselves.
Unless Obama really makes mistakes big time, I don't see how the Republicans can get back control of both Congress or the Presidency, let alone both. They've let down the people with their outrageous spending from 1996-2006, and from what I see, are basically out of touch with the mainstream populace. It'll be a long time before they have a chance to declare themselves victors in any area of government.

For eight years, the left went crazy. If their latte wasn’t exactly how they like it, it was Bush’s fault. If they lost their jobs, it isn’t because they weren’t providing the company real value. It was Bush’s fault. If the price of gasoline went up, it wasn’t because we won’t let anyone drill for oil here in the U.S. It was because Bush was making a killing in the oil markets. Forget the mere fact that these charges being directed at Bush were easily disproved. Mere facts made no difference to the accusers. Mind you, I’ve made no secret of my discontent with Bush over the years, but it seemed to me that the ills being piled onto Bush were laughable.-

Nice recitation of GOP talking points! Other wise it is just pure drivel. Amazing how you label everyone on the Left with one big stamp.

Anyone who believes that GW Bush is solely to blame for America's miseries is completely out to lunch. The man has proven he can barely p-ss in a pot. I am not about to give him that much credit.
A failed leader for sure, a misguided delegater as well. But he simply did not write, create or devise any of the policies he knowingly or unknowingly backed. His foreign policy was run by neocons who have little respect for the man to this day. Never thought much of his intellectual abilities but admired him as a blank slate that could write all over. Somehow reasoned minds like Gates and Petraeus eventually broke the stranglehold but the damage had been done. A popular president once supported by 90% of the American public skulked out of the White House with some of lowest ratings in history. Ruined by his collaborators. A national embarassment. And can you imagine they are going to build a library honoring this man someday?
We won't let anyone drill in the US? What a crock of sh-t! There are millions of acres of public lands already allocated for exploration here. But the cost of withdrawing much of that oil makes it unfeasonable unless oil is above $80 a barrel. No one is jumping on that investment with the volatility of petroleum prices. There is no cheaper product to extract in the world than Middle Eastern oil. We will continue to enrich the Arabs as long as there is a profit to be made by all parties...that is, minus the consumer. We do import massive amounts from Canada but they are literally destroying their environment to extract that product from shale. A model not worth following. -

anything that went wrong during bush's term was clinton's fault according to the GOP, however, anything that went right Bush gets full credit - interesting how that works as well - not responsible for any of the negatives, but fully credited with anything that supposedly went well

"So where does this observation lead us? I predict that we will see serious disappointment and even resentment from the left in four year.
For proof, one need look no further than Jimmy Carter, whose transition from an object of adulation to one of disappointment and resentment resulted directly in the landslide election of Ronald Reagan."
My personal opinion:
I believe that one definition of happiness is the fulfillment of your expectations. That is the problem haunting Obama already.
He was a great orator who carried people along on his words. Now he is President, expected to take those words and turn them in actions. Instead, he is roaming around the country, why?
His "stimulus" bill isn't signed yet, so what was the urgency. The people and congress are starting to really read the fine print. Horror of horrors, we have set up a massive socialist medical system.
Congress has lost control of the expenditure of the money because the "oversight" committees for the projects will be appointed by Obama and report only to him, with no input required to congress.
When congress passed this bill it failed us. We elect them and pay them to read and consider bills and monies expenditures with what is best for the country in their hearts and minds.
Not only have the Democrats who voted for this bill failed their obligation to read legislation before they voted on it, but three Republicans have failed even more because they were bought off.
Thank goodness there is an election in two years.-

You operate on pure speculation. Judging on administration that has been in office about one month. While your turn your head away when others seek to evaluate the last disastrous years.

A "massive Socialist Medical System" - what exactly do you think we have now? What do think Medicare and Medicaid represent? Your scare tactics are nothing new. We have learned over the years to ignore them.

You only say this because it was Democratic legislation. Something that has not passed across a President's desk in 8 solid years. What exactly did the Republican Congress do during their 6 years of full control? Did we see earmarks disappear? Pork shrivel? Hardly, it grew at record rates. A reminder. Your party was in FULL CONTROL! You had the veto power for 8 years but it was in the hands of a fool! -

Veteran psychiatrist calls liberals mentally ill
Publishes extensive study on 'Psychological Causes of Political
Madness'
WASHINGTON
– Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.
Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:
* creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
* satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
* augmenting primitive feelings of envy;
* rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.
"The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious.-

C'mon the World Nut Daily? You people are amazing. Anybody notice Obama's approval rating jumped after the Stimulus Bill passed? We want him doing things iike that. That's the Kenyan-born, Muslim, empty suit we love and voted for. And you connies can either help get things going or get the hell out of the way and pat yourselves on the back at how bad he's doing and watch your party end up with 20 senators and 100 congressmen. Your party is bankrupt, and you don't even know it. You wanna cut taxes to save an economy you helped destroy with tax cuts and deregulation and then read lugnuts like the World Nut Daily to feel like you're right. What a load of losers. Talk about out-of-touch.

Despite pledges of being an open and ethical administration, and despite Obama’s promise of a lobbyist-free administration, we now see a long string of ethically questionable Democrats and lobbyists connected to Obama’s past and his present nominated for lucrative jobs within his administration. Yet there are no complaints from the left, who were so caustic over George W. Bush’s ethical failings. Obama can do no wrong in their eyes. The transition is remarkable but predictable.
The desire to defend one of their own had led to a herd mentality on the left. After all, these are not the actions that one would witness from independent and unconventional thinkers who are dealing in fact
Very interesting find PC!-

We need to all get used to the fact that everything Obama said during his election campaign were pure falsehoods made up out of whole cloth to get the kooky kool ade drinkers to vote for him. He meant nothing he said and by now everyone should have figured it out.

That's what he said, now prove it's wrong. You can't because the tanking of the economy started when the liberal progressive democrats took the majority in 2006. Where have you been, oh no, don't stick your head up there again it's dark and smells really bad!-

Well. That's just not how it works.
If YOU make the claim, YOU must provide the proof.
However, it may be true that the tanking of the economy started when the liberal democrats took majority. The difficulty with that statement is there's no CAUSAL connection.
It's like saying that the terrorists crashed into the twin towers when my aunt May was taking a bath to scrub her corns. -

Coincidence is not causation. Tell me specifically, which bill passed by the Democratic Congress within the past 2 years 'tanked' the economy? The financial meltdown was YEARS in the making. -

Well, I didn't know the Democratic Party created sub prime mortgages and all the rest of the crap Wall Street sold to the believing world: let's have some evidence rather than fantasy.
However the neocon's world was always fantasy as they admitted: we create the world as you see it was one boast. In fact a more suitable nom de plume here would be fascists are hilarious. -

The "Personality Cult" that I have been witnessing for ENTIRELY too long (and by which I have been thoroughly disgusted) is that which grew up among some of the many ostensibly "respectable, responsible" trolls who fawned on King Georgie and his Crackpot Cabal of NeoConMen!

By the end of their run, they finally dwindled to about 22% ---the preponderance of them actually having been not COMPLETE ideological idiots, and having witnessed the REAL DAMAGE steadily done by the simplistic right wing mindset. Unfortunately, though, that damage has been done, and we are now going to have to scramble to try to re-invent this society and its economy, if "we" and our children and grandchildren are to retain a significant place in the world of the future.-

Somebody please tell me this is a joke. What an inane, vacuous, trite, fluffery of an article about how many books are published. We have mountainous problems w/ credit, mortgages, foreclosures, bankruptcies, unemployment, wars and this article wants to talk about how many books are being published?
Reply
Is this what passes for serious thought among Republicans.
Come on, you Reps. Surely you can do better in finding topics of discussion.
Everyone flocking to Reagan (what happened to Bush?) is driven by high moral principles and abject disappointment with Democrat Pres Carter. Anyone reading a book about Obama is driven by animalistc herd instinct.
Give me a break!! -
