What section would a bookstore put some junior-reader biographies of Barack Obama? A Borders store in Dallas found the perfect spot (via Mitch Berg and Psycmeister):-

So is the author saying that Bush followers didn't have this "herd" mentality? Not that I recall.

I do agree that the sale of books (in Obama's case, they are literally everywhere) does help promote and "sell" him...what the Republicans need is, like the author said, one or two "stand-out" people who can be promoted the same way.
Problems is, no one currently has the star power to do that, at least not yet.
If Obama isn't able to turn around this country economically, and I'm not saying he will be able, to the satisfaction of everyone, then maybe some as of yet undiscovered Republican may be able to become that "star" and move on to greater things.
Sarah Palin was that hope, but she has shown she's uncapable of answering simple questions put to her, and some of her beliefs don't sit well with the more moderate parts of the party. Yes, she galvanized the base, but you need more than the base to win. McCain came close, because he was more of a centrist. But from what I've seen, those in the Republican party seem much pickier than those in the Democratic party. They not only have to fight the Democrats, but's there's so much in-fighting among themselves.
Unless Obama really makes mistakes big time, I don't see how the Republicans can get back control of both Congress or the Presidency, let alone both. They've let down the people with their outrageous spending from 1996-2006, and from what I see, are basically out of touch with the mainstream populace. It'll be a long time before they have a chance to declare themselves victors in any area of government.
