I could think of no greater flattery, than to be regarded
Reply
as 'mad' because of acts of charity and compassion.
But if the observation is coming from me then it I am only flattering myself.
Build churches; build hospitals; give all your money to the poor; donate blood and time to orphans; go crazy with charity and compassion.
The world will notice; and will comment, you can be sure.
But don't go to the world and say, 'you think I am mad because I am so good';
Doesn't impress.-

All of the things you mention that religion SHOULD be doing is proposed by liberals but organized religion rallies behind the Republicans. Go figure, eh?

It's all about power and money with the Christians these days. Look at the multi-billion dollar mega churches and ministries and also observe the number of charlatans like Jimmy Bakker, and Jimmy Swaggart, etc. etc.
They're not crazy, they're crooks preying on the poor feeble minded people that buy into their bull$hit

Umm. Most of the Christians I see in America are motivated by the reckless pursuit of money and power. Well. The loudest ones, anyhow. I'd like to think they're a minority, but the number of Christians actually involved in charitable work and compassionate care is far smaller than those involved in political ideology.-

My parents just came back from Texas coast were their church just returned from helping help rebuild after the last hurricane. They had some nice pictures and stories. You know what none of the pictures or stories had in them? Atheists, Muslims and these supposedly really smart and really educated Democrats.

Just good hard working people getting together and doing good things for people they never met and will never meet again. Doing it just because someone need help so they stood up and did it. I don't expect any of the nutscaper's to understand or even really know what was done.
This trip was the third they did after two to New Orleans. And there are thousand that do this.

I do find it interesting. The attacks on Christians. You have an earthquake or title wave in Malaysia and who is the first with aid and comfort? The United States, a "Christian" nation. I didn't see one Islamic nation show up to help people of their own faith. In fact, I didn't remember a single Islamic nation offering help to the people from New Orleans when Katrina hit.

well. the US wasn't first with aid and comfort, and there were many Islamic nations that helped, as well as buddhist, hindu, communist, etc nations.
and if you've ever traveled, this world is still a toilet bow (albeit a fascinating, beautiful one), and the US hasn't done much to change that, despite what you falsely want to believe.
again. you. dumbas$.
deal with it.

Christians are regarded as "mad" by the rest of society because they believe in a literal interpretation of the bible as if its some kind of historical document, when in truth it is simply a book of parables, and they are also regarded as mad because they believe Jesus was magical when everyone should know that the supernatural abilities of jesus were decided upon by a bunch of men hundreds of years after jesus died. oops, I mean, "after jesus resurrected and ascended to heaven."-

how do you know jesus had no supernatural abilities?
Reply
who thinks christians are mad? i think christians are viewed just like the rest of the world: self-righteous, compassionate, petty, loving, judgmental, giving, power-hungry, mean, friendly, hateful, unselfish, and so on and so on...
some also think they know "the truth."
you know... like you think you do... -

Not all Christians believe this. In fact, Catholics (the oldest and one of the largest group of Christians) specifically do NOT view the Bible as literal fact and do NOT interpret the Bible literally.
"they are also regarded as mad because they believe Jesus was magical"
They don't believe He was magical. They believe He is the 'Son' of God.
"everyone should know that the supernatural abilities of jesus were decided upon by a bunch of men hundreds of years after jesus died. "
The stories about Christ that were included in the Bible were decided upon "by a bunch of men," yes. But His healings and other such 'abilities' (which are only supernatural if you believe God is not part of the natural world) weren't decided on, but were parts of coherent stories passed down from those who walked the earth with Him.

We need to guide our governments, businesses and daily lives according to universal principles and ethics. Religious beliefs will certainly support principles and ethics but the doctrines and beliefs of religions are too different to join people togther. We need a document of common ground, one that all people can believe in and their religions support. The so called mega Christian churches and preachers who are preaching the prosperity message are responsible for creating greed in the name of religion.

People can say whatever they want about me, If they want to call me names thats fine. I just pray and ask forgiveness for them if Jesus walked among his own and they mocked him and he suffered much more then we would ever suffer, also give his life for us then why should I care what anyone thinks? I know in my heart and Jesus knows, so all I can do is forgive and pray for them. Remember the old saying? sticks and stones may brake my bones but words well never harm me. I am not perfect and Gods knows that, but he knows my heart and all those that I pray for. I am not ashamed nor well I ever denie him, I well do as he wants and pray for those who make fun of me or say or do bad things because of what I do in his name.he sais love those who cruse you. I cant say that there is a person that I dislike I dislike some ways but if Jesus went though it, I am no better then him. I myself everyday have to ask his forgiveness for something that I have done. We well aways be talked about and laughed at. But I know hes right by my side to help me thrw it. As long as I know he loves me and he'll forgive me and my sometime selly ways I'll be just fine because he is on my side.
