Keyes is on thin ice. His hateful rhetoric is the type of thing that gives loonies the impetus they need to commit horrible crimes ... like assassination! Keyes should be shut down and shut up...somehow. There is a point where it is not free speech anymore!

Freedom of speech carries great responsibility with it. If someone is too reckless with the privilege, they should pay some kind of price. That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it. Freedom really isn't free....the price we must pay is to assume responsibility not to abuse the privilege.

"we're saying that a bankrupt government is going to bailout a bankrupt banking system?"
he hit the nail on the head with this point. historically, most empires fall due to an overextended budget.-

Spending money to blow up and rebuild the middle-east,
is money poured into the sand, obviously.
There can be no return to the tax-payer except a more dangerous middle east.
And the USSR gave us an example of the fatal situation an empire reaches,
when it has spent all its money on arms and state show-pieces, - and nothing
that betters the life of its people.
But spending money to build hospitals, schools, roads, libraries,
police forces, cleaner water and air, all the infra-structure of a healthy prosperous nation,
- is the same as a business investing in itself.-

I think there is an additional point here, however, that FDR (for example) didn't have to deal with. As a result of the policies of the neocons, the economic crisis is further exacerbated by the debt. A debt whose increase is pledged to a massive foreign military infrastructure as surely as it is pledged to medicare and SS.
so what happens when you add more debt on top of that? historically, at some point the debt becomes so great the nation collapses. And our debt is pretty friggin' great.
this is my concern with a plan large on spending, large on bureaucracy, short on a cohesive strategy other than stirring the pot, and absent a repayment strategy.
believe me, I want Obama to prove himself to be the smartest man ever. I want everything to be all roses and music. But I'm a skeptic. Not like Alan Keyes is a skeptic, I don't role quite that hard to the side. I just think its always a good idea to ask questions.-

I would agree with what you wrote, except that you wrote that you agreed with what I wrote and it would get recursive into an endless loop.

I particularly agree on the horror of deficit spending;
but I am hoping money that is directed at America at worst can only be partly wasted.
Skeptics are good! except when you are selling raffle tickets,
performing faith healing or explaining why you were speeding to a cop.
