Woman Wills Her Body to PETA to Become BBQ, Leather Goods »
Posted By ecoorganic1 9 months, 1 week ago in NewsIngenious act of head turning activism , or wacko publicity stunt gone too far ? You decide. Ingrid Newkirk, the president of PETA, has recently fashioned a will stipulating that upon her death, her body is to be donated to the infamous animal rights org. And she's written up a bizarre list of instructions on what they're to do with each of her body parts after she's deceased. Just a warning to the squeamish—this gets weird.

She could have carried things a little further by specifying how she dies: have her neck wrung like a chicken's, be slaughtered like cattle, be hooked like a fish, be shot by a rifle or an arrow like deer, be harpooned like a whale, be beat on the head like seals, be put in a sack and dropped in a river or any other way an animal is put to death.

Instant defensive ridicule from those who chose to see Newkirk's zealotry only.

What she's doing is of course meant to affront, to push buttons. It's also meant to make people more conscious of the ways in which non-human animals are (often cruelly) used.
It's meant to dramatize. And it does.-

I don't usualy yawn so much at 'dramas.'
Then again I, like a good deal of people, grew out of the "I'm new in college, living off mommy's paycheck and feel like I need to be a counter-cultural rebel" stage of dramatic protest and went into the world to actually change things.

I feel there is a need for animal advocates/rights, and there are some good organizations out there that really do protect animals. Based on truth and facts and not drama and exaggerations of things. Those organizations usually aren't PETA, although PETA sounds like a great organization for animal lovers, IMHO they go about things in entirely the wrong ways, so I don't see them getting far with their cause and who suffers for that? animals.
