Obama Protects Wiretap Program Secrets »
Posted By pc25 9 months, 1 week ago in NewsFor over three years, since the New York Times exposed an NSA surveillance program that tracked conversations from suspected terrorist phones to points within the US, the Left has pilloried the Bush administration for “shredding” the Constitution. Early in Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, he made that a central reason why America needed Hope and Change. Eventually, however, Obama VOTED for the FISA language that essentially made the program EXPLICITLY LEGAL, but promised to make significant changes to it once elected.

My my! Another tempest in a teapot campaign replete with phony assertions and deceptiveness from hotair dissimulators posted by PC25. What else is new. The striking feature of this latest "assault" is that it has ZERO factual information - just lots of diatribe. Here is a comment from the WaPo article that suggests that screaming of the PC25s is simply designed to keep you dumb and follwoing the sect.

"""Most of the people on here are reactionary idiots who haven't even read a SUMMARY of the FISA Amendments Act of 2008 (it can be found on Wikipedia).
FISA was established in 1978. It has been a governmental spying act for 3 decades. This bill that Obama is supporting actually makes it HARDER for the executive branch to abuse FISA. It requires them to have more authorization and prohibits them from using "war powers" as an excuse for ignoring surveillance law.
Also, those telecom companies were pressured by the NSA to help with surveillance. If *you* were pressured by a government agency to help them, wouldn't *you* want immunity from lawsuits?
So all you idiots who are screaming and crying that Obama betrayed you need to shut the hell up for a minute and read the actual summary of the bill. It actually gives MORE protection to your privacy, not LESS.
What the hell is going on here? This is the world turned upside down. People don't want to think, read, and make informed judgements anymore. They just want to react. Well you are going to end up screwing youself out of the best presidential candidate since JFK with an attitude like that. Be like Obama! Actually THINK before you react! """ -

FTA-"Given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. So I support the compromise, but do so with a firm pledge that as president, I will carefully monitor the program,"

Isn't that what he is doing in the case against Al-Haramain? I mean the group Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation -- based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and with branches around the world -- purports to be an innocuous charity which collects funds to help Muslims in poor countries. But this façade is a cover for its real purpose: to spread extremist Wahhabi doctrine internationally, to provide funding for Al Qaeda, and to finance specific terror plots.
The United Nations, The United States, Great Britain as well as several other countries have all designated Al-Haramain as a terrorist entity; frozen and seized its funds where possible; and banned it from conducting business.
Hmm, I guess this proves that President Obama ain't no Mulsim huh?

Obama defends Bush-era secrets
President Obama’s administration is moving aggressively to protect what the government insists are “state secrets” from a Bush-era wiretapping program.
Justice Department lawyers filed an emergency motion Friday with a federal appeals court in an effort to block a lower court’s order that the government must show lawyers for the Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation a copy of a document indicating that the group’s communications were being intercepted. The document has been the subject of a running legal battle since the papers were accidentally sent to attorneys for the group in 2004 and subsequently retrieved.
“Disclosure of the material at issue here would cause exceptionally grave harm to the national security and result in irreparable injury to the United States,” the Justice Department wrote. It said information about the surveillance program is considered “Top Secret — Sensitive Compartmented Information.” -

it's the difference between the hype of campaign rhetoric and the reality of the office that he holds now. Very different when you know the facts and are responsible for the safety of 300 million people....
Reply
as always he told the people what they wanted to hear.......the election was decided on pandering not on facts and that becomes more apparent every day...as with all his other campaign pledges and promises this one has met it's expiration date...... -

apologizing to bush, or saying bush was right is only one of the choices.
Reply
another is to say that obama was wrong to support telecom immunity then and he's wrong to support secret wiretaps now.
i don't understand why you favor letting big brother invade your privacy, for that's what this is about. it has nothing to do with the reasons for the invasion. either the government must abide by the law or it doesn't, and if it doesn't we used to call that tyranny.

um, since Obama has been president for just over a month only, this story shold be filed under "seriously jumping the gun" since, at this point, its clearly idiotic to accuse Obama of any of the claims trying to be made here by hotair (perfect name btw).

back during the campaign when this vote took place, Obama made it public as to why he voted for the FISA language as it was re-written by the Bush Administration. And his argument was a good one, for if that FISA version wasn't passed into law, FISA itself was then set to expire, which meant there would have been NO LAWS or provisions in place (which is what Bush really wanted) and there would have been no protections for Americans such as FISA provided. Obama went on to say that should he become president, he'll change the language of the FISA laws back so that the law is a true signifier of FISA's original intent, and not what Bush turned it into. and he will. give it some time. the guy's got a lot on his plate thanks to Bush.
so to even put this story out there at this time, in this context (essentially: Obama protects Bush's illegal wiretaps) is disingenuous and wholly idiotic at best.-

You know what ther NoWayMan? You are right. It is all George Bush's fault. But, you know what else NoWayMan? It's all Obama's problem now. Regardless of what he "inherited", he ran his campaign based upon his "intention" to change things. Well, let's see this change. I see lots of change on the NYSE and NASDAQ. But, that is change in a bad way. Obama is a disaster. I just hope that we can make it through these "tough times". This whole bad scene is the fault of Soros and his cronies who tipped the balance of the WMF by moving their assets around and by the left who forced lending institutions to make bad loans to people who could not afford to pay them. So, NoWayMan, it is a bit premature to actually begin to measure this guy's failures. It truly is disingenuous and wholly idiotic. We'll have WAY more to write about in the next 4 years. Thanks.

yes, it is wholly disingenuous and idiotic to try and throw this at Obama's feet when this case is being tried using Bush's rules. even if Obama changed all the rules tomorrow, since this case is already in motion (started before 2004) those new rules wouldn't apply. get it now? Obama's views on FISA have absolutely nothing to do with this. duh.

0Bama will protect the wire tapping for now because he cannot afford another 9-11 like fiasco on his watch. That occurrence along with the distinct possibility that the Stimulus Bill will fail will really kill the idea of a Grand Legacy

As for the lying to get votes, well yessss.... he is a well schooled rookie politician not the second coming of the Messiah.
And lets face it, the people that voted for him are not that knowledgeable about how the real world works and he, 0Bama, and the DUNC knew that. -

I have to tell you, the more junk you pull off the internet "news" sites the dumber you look. Anyone that believes this load of crap is really reaching for a reason. Hopefully as people see the changes they will understand the truth and you will be standing on your soapbox all alone. Yes we can!
