GOP Governor: Congressional Leadership 'Inconsequential' »
Posted By tehranchik 10 months, 1 week ago in Political NewsIn an interview with the Washington Times, the Republican governor of Utah on Monday said his party's leaders in Congress' lack of new ideas renders them so "inconsequential" that he doesn't even bother to talk to them.
"I don't even know the congressional leadership," Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. told the paper's editors and reporters. "I have not met them. I don't listen or read whatever it is they say because it is inconsequential -- completely." Huntsman added that he would not reject any money from President Obama's stimulus. While he criticized what he saw as misdirected spending in bill, he said Republicans had no credibility on fiscal responsibility.
"Our moral soapbox was completely taken away from us because of our behavior in the last few years," he said. "For us to now criticize analogous behavior is hypocrisy. We've got to come at it a different way. We've got to prove the point. It can't be as the Chinese would say, 'fei hua,' [or] empty words."
Huntsman recently made waves when a spokeman announced that the governor supported civil unions for gay couples. Utah has a constitutional ban on gay marriage and domestic unions.

Well duh. Anyone listening to Bobby Jindal would have noticed that all his party's "ideas" were recycled from Democratic proposals. If they could stand listening to his infantile mannerisms. -

At this time it's not a bad place to hide. Given the huge pork projects Obama has saddled the American taxpayers with, I suspect people will begin to rethink the last election. I can't wait for Hollywood to realize even their incomes now have been capped. If their studios, production companies or banks received aid, by right, they're not to pay anyone more that $500K regardless of position. What will the Hollywood limo liberals do? They'd almost be working for scale....

BB64, what I heard, with my own lying ears, was the companies that get bailed out, those people would be capped. A company that uses its own revenues from profits are not included. To a great extent, the burden of quality in spending, whether wasteful or a wise investments determines if the Pork is fat or lean meat. In the previous administration, I would be worried or in a state that has a Governor or the local area that cannot not think as a good fiscal manager to create wealth and assist people to bring innovations to the market.

The Republicans really need some smart, principled, reasoning, rigorous thinkers in their party: it's not enough, anymore, to have "character" or to be a "character". At least Ron Paul takes the trouble to explain his reasoning. Most Republicans spout Republican talking points like they are axioms (self-evident). They need to reclaim some "credibility on fiscal responsibility".

Governors that are not running as fast as they can to get the stimulus money, and show they are worth the trust placed in them, to make it yield jobs and private sector business growth are unfit. The local government that cannot encourage growth and offer incentives to the local people, with the stimulus or other resources, to be self-sufficient, generating wealth that yield taxes to support their budgets where they live instead of whining, are displaying their incompetence. This is our nation's recovery and the Governors and local governments should not try to get in the way with their mis-placed and unappreciated bravado.

In short, the Republicans in congress are nothing short of obstructionist. There is another election in less than two years. I can't wait to vote every one of the Repub bastards out of office. The old axion "Lead, Follow, or Get out of the way" has never been more true of the current crop of neocon radical right Republicans. They failed to lead for 8 years...only following that loser Bush...now it is time for them to Get the hell out of the way. If they fail to do so, they will perish. The American people (those with at least a single brain cell anyway) are fed up with their total destruction of our economy and now they say they have good ideas? Once the fox has raided my hen house I'll not let him in again!

Excellent post! This a republican speaking out, with logic and reasoning, about the shortcomings of his own party. The little "party line" speech by Gov. Jintal, after the Congressional address, was more of the same crap we keep hearing from Orin Hatch and other out-of-touch republicans. They pretend to be in support of President Obama and of America yet their actions are opposite of their words. They just don't get it! The American people have spoken and marginalized the republican party, and still they act as if THEY have the upperhand. They truly are modern day cavemen. -

Wizard, I admire your honesty and logic. Hopefully there are enough Republicans of your stature to eventually reclaim the party. We need a two party system.

Now, just a little off topic, but... The last two days I've taken to looking closer at photos of Dems and Repubs on various sites and in the paper etc and (unscientifically) it seems to me that most of the Repubs have an angry look about them and most of the Dems a happier smiling look. Anybody else see things this way? What does it mean? -
