Changing Bad Theology One Word at a Time »
Posted By bowsnumba1 10 months, 1 week ago in ReligionIn closing his speech to Congress, Obama added one small word - "may" - to what has become the standard way presidents conclude their speeches: "God bless America."
This slight addition is an authentic recognition of the ignorance, entitlement, and greed that's implicit in commanding God to bless certain people and not others.

I hope we can get back to our roots on how Christianity used to be treated when our founding fathers were here. Because they based the Constitution on Christianity. I hope it can start a change for not just Christianity but religion as a whole. Lets just see how it goes in time.

Asking for a god to bless us in despite of all the mistakes and ill deeds we may have commited.
Insted of demanding on a God to bless us because we assume we are better and more just than everyone else on this planet. -

Ridiculous!!! Inflection of voice of Presidents indicates a "command" or merely a statement of desire or benediction. Perhaps Obama does not know God well enough to say "God bless America."

BTW when did God extending His blessings equal "approval"? Many people in the Bible God blessed were blessed merely because He decided too and not because they deserved it. This is true of America. We cannot keep flaunting His laws with actions like "honoring" homosexuality, approving of abortion, etc. but He does bless and gives us the right to bless in His name.
For generations Christians have made this statement to others "God bless you." People say it whenever someone sneezes, or in sympathy, or in response to many interactions between people.
Good Grief we sing “God Bless America” not as a command but as a petition but we do not sing “May God Bless America.” The author seems to be a little ignorant or assumes others are of the English language and is rather reading all his objections to the "Imperial Presidency of Bush" or others into this.
