Ethically and morally I support this person.

However legally, McDonalds has a policy regarding employees and what they are supposed to do in these situations. If he violated their policy then he deserves full well the penalty for violating their policy.

    Violate McDonald's policies? They're there for a reason. If he wants to be a 'hero' (which usualy ends up with MORE people hurt or dead), then that's his decision on his time and with consequences.
    
    Great that he's a hero in this situation but the reality often is that more people get hurt, killed or wounded when someone untrained jumps in to 'help.'

      Regardless of whether he should have followed McD's policy, he was at work at the time he was injured.
      
      Even apart from denying worker's comp being terrible PR for them, McDonald's should just pay the kid and be happy about it. How much can it cost them?
      
      This is a typical example of corporate short-sightedness--trying to cut corners to save a much smaller amount of money than it will cost the company in the long run.
