DADT is a hurtful and disparaging piece of legislation which should be little more than an asterisk in the military's discriminatory past. Until it is repealed, more gays and lesbians who have fought and valiantly defended the Constitution will be discharged unfairly. Numerous other European allies allow gays and lesbians to serve openly. Only the rather repressive United States refuses to recognize gays and lesbians as full citizens.

There will be no "knife fight" over it this time, as the article suggests. It's just bigoted lunacy and the policy should have been done away with by executive order a long time before the legislation came up, as racial segregation was. Clinton was a complete coward on this issue, and should have called DADT legislation exactly what it is and resolutely vetoed it. Obama will not falter on this matter.
