A senior official in the Obama administration said late Monday evening that the U.S. would transfer 900 million dollars to Gaza as part of a renovation effort following Operation Cast Lead. The money will pass through the hands of the UN and non-governmental organizations and not Hamas.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to announce the aid next week when she travels to a donors conference in Egypt. The assistance will have to be approved by Congress before the aid can be transferred.

Over $4 billion has been pledged in toto.
Unfortunately no one has any clear idea of how any of it is actually going to get there - and if it does how any of it will be used for the good of the people of Gaza.
No reconstruction can happen until the Israelis remove their veto/ban on the importation of cement and steel.
    Just for starters..

The money is going to the Israeli front man in the West Bank. I really doubt that anyone in Gaza will see a penny. Probably no one in the West Bank will either, except it might be used to built more Israeli settlements.

Israel has been confiscating the Palestinian money for years. Once in a while they let some thru so the world can say "See they really are the good guys". The Palestinians in Gaza built the tunnels to smuggle in food, and money to pay for the food.

How can you stop a war if you insist on propping up the aggressors?

They can use it to rebuild all the buildings. This is complete with special red and white paint to put targets on them for next time.

U.S. to contribute one-third of $2.8 billion in international pledges to rebuild Gaza, which is ruled by a group labeled terrorists by the U.S.

Reading the comments so far shows how cynical, bipolar, and negative we are when it comes to that region of the world. I just have to wonder how or if they'll ever be able to live peaceful lives. I hope this money will help build some lives for the better.
