Rush to the President: Debate Me »
Posted By GLee 9 months ago in NewsRUSH: It is on the record -- thanks to Politico.com -- since last fall, the White House, led by Rahm Emanuel, the chief of staff to Barack Obama, has been targeting me, your host, your harmless, lovable little fuzzball. Their standard operating procedure: they need a demon to distract and divert from what their agenda is. They need a demon about whom they can lie so as to persuade average Americans that they're the good guys, the benevolent good guys, and the mean SOBs are their enemies trying to stop this great young little president from doing miraculous and wonderful things.

Interesting challenge, but I doubt Obama will take the bait. As for Rush Limbaugh, he's got an insanely exaggerated notion of his own importance. As Michael Steele said (before cravenly taking back every word), the guy is an entertainer. Would George W. Bush have agreed to debate Jon Stewart?

Rush Limnbaugh should really debate Olbermann. That would be a good one to see. To think the President of the United States would take out time to debate a radio talk show host is absolutely incredulous. Limbaugh is losing his mind. His ego has supersceded his rationality.

When your right,as Rush is, NO ONE will shut him up. Ge hits the nail on the head every time. Obama does not have the back bone to appear and dedate, Rush would Have Obama doing one of the things he does best, go into the, er ,uh, well, doing his dance around the questions( mold )like always. I would thing, if he had the nerve, Rush would be the one to show what a sham Obama really is, in doing that the people would ask for an impeachment.
Reply
I would pay for Obamas $100.00 steak, for a front row seat.

The only reason Limbaugh issued this "challenge" is because Obama called him out, in front of congress and in front of the whole country. There is an idiot involved here, but it is definitely not Rush Limgaugh!

Rush merely answered Barney/Barry's taunt with, "Put-up or shut-up". -

I've never listened to Rush that much but now I am very curious as to what Rush is saying to get the political panties at the White House in such a wad.

True in that this weird social challenge by the White House may detract from what they, the Messiah-Crats, are truly doing but damn this 'move' is truly half baked and borders on extremely sophomoric at best. -

Obama won't get into the mud with this pig since this pig loves the mud.
Reply
the office of president is too important for Obama to lower himself to an entertainer's level to have a "debate."
its like michael moore asking bush to have a debate when bush was president. that would have been ridiculous.-

No, Obama won't get in the mud....he just slings it through Emmanuel, the press secretary, and the DNC. He's not got the testicular fortitude to do it himself.
They think they are being clever using this as a diversionary tactic, but it will backfire.-

Oh, you mean like Karl Rove did for 8 years? They need to put his ass in jail where it belongs.
Reply
You say "he's not got the testicular fortitude" but he's sure taking on the Republicans in congress isn't he.
"They think they are being clever using this as a diversionary tactic, but it will backfire."
You mean like the "I don't recall" testimony that Bush's cabinet used in congress? It sure backfired on them I see.

Rush will only "debate" IF he can control the location and the conditions and everything else.
Reply
That is not a debate - it is a set-up.
If Rush can't even manage to meet Obama at a neutral site for a REAL debate in person, then he is not worth the effort. (He's not worth the effort anyway ...)-

You know despite how much the left hates him, Rush is a smart guy. Maybe not when it comes to politics or anything meaningful, but he knows how to run his business. This is a win win thing for Rush. Obama accepts (which he obviously won't) and Rush gets publicity on a whole new level, or Obama declines, which he will, and Rush gets to say "Oooo the President is scared to debate me!"

That would be an extremely poor strategy, and I don't think he's stupid enough to say something like that directly. He may hint at it, however. Bottom line, there is no precedent for a sitting President to debate a media personality, regardless of his/her popularity, therefore calling Obama 'chicken' makes Rush look either childish or pompous. -

Rush is an over fed, out of touch, bigot who has OTHER people write his material. In a real debate situation, Obama would inhilate him. Remember who has the political background and the education. Although no matter what happened, Rush would declare victory. Cause, afterall, according to him, he is ALWAYS right...

Hmmm... Let's see. Conservatives were in control of things for years and what do we have to show for it? We have economic upheaval, went from a budget surplus to a giant deficit and two poorly run wars. Add to that they promised to keep government out of our lives referring to the democrats policies as social engineering. But somehow they pushed their own agenda on us all.
Reply
They promised to bring integrity back to government propping themselves up on a moral pedestal but came up short there as well. With scandals ranging from corruption to improper sexual conduct they proved to be no better than those they replaced. Newt Gingrich even admitted to having a adulterous relationship with an aide at the very same time he was impeaching President Clinton for covering up his own affair!
Rush wants a debate? I don't think so. He won't even face a true debate on own his talk show. Rush has said time and again that the republicans have all the ideas. That moderates are irrelevant because they don't stand for any thing. (Meaning they're aren't locked into an ideology.) That liberal thinking is simply wrong. This intolerance to any opinion other than their own is why they failed and its why the republicans lost. The republicans saw the train coming at them and did nothing to get out of its way.
If the republicans really want to get back into power they need to learn from their mistakes and adapt. Reagan was a popular president because even with his strong convictions he was respectful of his opposition. The current republican leadership needs to rethink its message reach out to the middle class and tone down the evangelical rhetoric. You can't govern just for your core constituency.
Conservatives will argue that McCain was that attempt at moderation but even though his tone was conciliatory his policies were clearly stay the course. He failed to address the reality which was people were hurting. And when he finally did come around his ideas weren't very convincing.-

Rush is afraid of Campbell Brown of CNN, who offered to debate him last month. Rush has no chance with Obama. He knows Obama would not lower himself to give this moron the time of day, that is why he keeps flapping his tongue. For the republican party to make a radio jock as their leader shows that the republican party has hit rock bottom.

Don't get too distracted by this political circus. Judge him by the content of his character (policies) not by the color of his skin.......hmmmm Sounds logical. Rush tells the truth because he has nothing to loose (not a politician) and 20 million listeners. He is not the Rep leader just the voice of the public (the 48% that didn't vote for BHO and the rest that voted because he was black). President Obama will show his true color soon. Let's hope it's not too late to do something about it.

Yet you state everyone "...voted because he was black".
How do you reconcile those two statements? Are Republicans the ONLY people capable of discerning color from character?
What if I was to say that all Republicans voted AGIANST Obama because he is black?

Rush Limbaugh is so full of himself. He may have 20 million (largely AM radio angry white male) listeners...20 million out of a U.S. population of 303 million. The VAST majority of average Americans (Limbaugh has an 11% positive rating for those under 40) DO NOT like him.
Reply
Intelligent people know other reasonable and sane voices are out there. Subscribers to satellite radio or surfers the internet (....or residents of a few major media markets where one can listen on terrestrial AM and FM broadcast outlets) have Thom Hartmann and Ed Schultz as more reasonable alternatives to Rush (...both are on the center-left and where we are as a country right now...)
Unfortunately, right wing "news/talk" radio is now evident to be a Rush echo chamber ...starting with Sean Hannity, who obediently reiterates all of the talking points. And not to be outdone, self-proclaimed "independent" (yeah, right!) Bill O'Reilly puts his own psychotic "no-spin" spin on it (all the while, like Rush, trying to get the focus back on himself). And Michael (Weiner) Savage....well he's just clinically insane.....
The longer that Rush is the "defacto leader of Republican Party," the more likely the GOP will lose more seats in the mid-term elections.
You dittoheads don't believe me? We'll talk after the 2010 elections. Obama is proving to be doing what he actually campaigned on and his popularity is at 68% ...meanwhile, your party has become a circular firing squad with everyone trying to kiss up to that drug addled lard-ass!
I say, let the GOP implode! I'm enjoying the show!
----
Oh, and BTW...
"Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness..." is in the Declaration of Independence, Rush! NOT the Constitution (you know, the document you've been wiping your fat a** with?). Perhaps you DO need a teleprompter! -

I apologize for the bugs as of late. We've been working on things with both AOL hosting and on the Propeller development side to make the site considerably faster and more efficient, but are experiencing some growing pains right now. I promise, we're working diligently :)
