A healthy diet and the amount of calorie consumption along with the appropriate exercise on a consistent schedule is really the only sure method of losing weight. There are probably many ways of exercising and dieting that works for some and not others. You just have to find the right combination that works for you. A willingness and determination to follow through is also a necessity. Our society is one that expects instant results and people who don't get weight loss instantly are discouraged and will continually seek the instant cure rather than the long term life style changes that are necessary.
